why have distinction between good guy, bad guy, and info in the boi section?

Normally that's what is supposed to be done.

Unfortunately, many of us lack the capacity to read and/or follow directions. Thus if there is a "BG" thread some will follow the instructions and post their interactions in tht thread..but another person may not have read the rules/suggestions and will post another type of thread (GG) and because this person either neglected to read the rules or is delibrately being obtuse the whole process starts over again.

So, it's not the site..it's the people (lord love 'em!)

HOWEVER, once a thread is started in the BOI for legal reasons and except for same, it is rarely moved, deleted or modified in anyway so it all stays there as a testimony to our inablity to FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS or perhaps our inability to research the rules before posting! (yes, I am also guilty).

PS. You could have simply had ONE BG post with everything in it...even your GG posts would have to be in there. Aren't you glad they didn't get buried that way?

Kevin you seem to always come on any thread I write on and try to say the same that you have been saying in the boi for a week now. I think that is what the boi section is for not the FaunaClassifieds Feedback Forum... But hey what do I know right? Im sure you will rally the BOI troops to this post now and make it a long, drawn out, 500+ post thread also?

you asked a question... I answered it. If you dont like the answer... then clean your act up because Im using the proof from your threads about you asking if you were a bad guy.

The title is based on the OP's feelings towards the person in question... nothing more... nothing less.

There have been several cases where the OP stated the other person was a bad guy....but proof had been entered into the thread that it was the OP that turned out to be the bad guy.

As for rallying the troops. I just state my own opinions. If folks agree with me... so be it. If they dont... so be it.

So I'm reading this thread, and I see between the lines that members here are saying "Please give me infractions!". I didn't realize people liked getting them so much....

Here's how I see the labels and why I think they're a good idea, even if they get screwed up now and then....

When I look at a thread title, especially on the BOI, I like to know what to expect before even opening it. If I see one that says, "DAND is a Good Guy!" then I don't even need to open it because I already know that. Saves me time.

If I see one that says, "Utta is a Bad Guy" and I KNOW that isn't true, by golly, I'm going to open that up and jump right in.

If I see someone looking for information on a particular person that I know, then I know it right away because of the "?" tag that I should open that thread and respond.

If I see the little "info bulb" on a thread, I'm very likely to open that one, too...to see what sort of info the person is sharing.

If I'm looking someone specific up, I like to see right away if they have BG threads or GG threads, and how many. Then I will open those threads and READ what is there....which is why it's important for as much information to be shared in any given thread as possible...so people can READ and make up their own minds.

The labels aren't the end-all and be-all of the matter...but they're very helpful. In the end, no matter how YOU might want it to be, it's the ultimate responsibility of each and every participant to read and digest all the information provided and make their own minds up.

Yes, we are exceptional as a group as well as individually. You would be better suited to remember this in the future. Small expectations usually is the mark of a small mind. You may want to open yours a little more often.

Just a note here about the labels I implemented.

Bear in mind that every thread started is going to be by someone who has a reason for possibly sticking their neck out and posting on the BOI. The most common reasons will be to either raise a red flag about someone they had a bad experience with, or to give kudos to someone else who they had a good experience with. So they are very likely going to want to make that distinction immediately upon creating the thread.

Sometimes the situation might not be so black and white, and rather than someone having to make the choice between one or the other, the other two options were supplied to give some gray area labelling to what they had a reason for posting on the BOI about.

There is no rule stating that the entire thread must stay on topic concerning what the original poster chose as his or her indicator of their own experience or the reason for them starting a thread on the BOI. My original request to try to have all discussions remain in a single thread was done back in the very early days of the BOI, where the structure of the backend programming and data structure was completely different from what it is now. As such, this is really no longer a critical matter (in the original script I was using, it would actually CRASH the system if the thread count went too high...), so it has no need to be enforced or even considered. I believe it is much more CONVENIENT for the majority of the posts about any one person to be in as few threads as possible, but the effort to enforce that kind of rule would require the staff here a lot of work, as well as our having to merge entire threads together, which LEGALLY could put us in jeopardy of becoming co-authors of that then merged thread.

Things seem to work out fine like they are now, so I really don't see any reason to consider making any changes with the way the BOI is set up right now. Newbies will be confused by it at first, but they'll get the hang of it pretty quickly, I think.
