    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Hey Folks,

So I'm looking to buy myself up a new BP, and from what I've read, most BP tend to go off eating over the winter season (although this appears to be more a case of the 1year+ snakes rather than the babies). Should this be a concern of mine considering it is mid-winter? Should I wait until spring before I buy my snake?

If you see one that you like I'd get it. Just be prepared, have a cage all set up with proper temps., and when I bring one home I use a shipping styro with some hot water bottles in it to maintain heat, that way he/she don't get a chill on the way home. :)

The cage is almost all setup, I'm just worried about getting a baby that's not going to be feeding becuase it's winter. Maybe I should wait till spring to buy her?
 
You could wait til you're more comfortable with the weather, But I have C.B.B and C.H. babies (85 or more) and currently they are all feeding like champs. My room temp. is at 82 - 84 and they have a warm spot, the room light is set-up on a timer for 12 hours - That's my baby room. I really think if you keep them warm and keep the lights on that the babies will continue to feed. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the reply Mike, really appreciate it. You raised another question of mine though..about lighting. Most sights I read say that BPs dont need much in the way of lighting. You say you have your lights set on 12hour timers -- do I need lights for my setup then? I was under the assumption that normal sunlight would do the trick..maybe I'm waaaay off base?
 
I think that decreased lighting can contribute to a slow down in their feeding behavior.
Ball Pythons don't need light like a Bearded Dragon, because of the vitamin D thing. But when I lived at my other place my snake room was influenced by a window and when Sept. and Oct. arrived and the days were shorter, many of my BPs would go off feed or slow down until about March or April and then their feeding response would increase. That's been my luck :)

So is that a full-spectrum light you're using? I'm trying to avoid using lights as they can apparently dry out the bedding and lower the humidity in cage
 
figured I would stick my nose in here. Mike referenced room lighting, not individual cage lighting. Ambient lighting is sufficient, but sometimes the shorter periods of (day)light can negatively influence feeding responses. I was lucky this year...I kept my baby BPs in a room with some non-BP adults that I was cycling, and never had a problem with them feeding with only 8 hrs of light .
 
Do your research, have a great home for it, and go out and GET R DONE!!!
 
Slightly off-topic...So i'm looking into a heatlamp for my cage and will probably be getting either a infrared or nightglow lamp. As far as I am aware, these lamps can not be detected by the snake (color-wise), so I have them cycling on and off with the thermostat, they wont bother my snake? Is that correct?
