    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I am just curious to see how other people came up with their leos' names. Here how I came up with mine.

Mongo, it just sounded cool
Raptor, she reminds me of the raptors from Jurassic park
Milo, after the cat from milo and otis the movie. He has some orange in his tail
Spaz, she is a spaz
Boo, after the Monsters Inc. Movie character
Popeye, my fiance named her, when we thought she was a he.
Pumpkin, he was bought in Oct.

Well, there's mine. Now it you guys turn.

well, i have way too many to list in this one post. lol

all of mine are named after something, either singers..people..mythical creatures..motorcycles....lol

All of my leos are named after Norse gods or names from norse mythology....

There's Arn, Aren, Thorgrim, Frigga, Myssta, Nyssa, Reidun, Odin, Ingemar, Eir, Ellisif, Ceridwen, Bera, Astryd, Asda, Ariadne, Annar... I think thats about it...

Awesome idea, I always try to come up with really witty names for my animals. I usually fail miserably. Case in point, my dog Baby and the cat that I named Mr. Kitty. Real witty, huh?

My Leo's name is Fish.

It stuck after my then two year old sister peered into the tank and said "That fish got arms!"

My first leo Spike, was named by the little girl I used to baby-sit. Spooky was named such because she was purchased in October and is sort of a pasty patternless. Lucky was named such because she was a rescue and darn near died on me. Cheeto aka "The Cheet" is bright orange like a Cheeto chip. Her boy-toy Strongbad is named after a mischevious character on homestarrunner.com who torments his friend named "The Cheat". Casanova is a total luv bug and is my most handsome leo. Vendetta was named such because I liked the name and it seemed to suit her intense pattern. And Narcissa is a grouchy lil' girl named after an evil Harry Potter character.

Well, as far as the ones that are actually mine to keep I have
Autumn: she was purchased in october, and when I first got her, she had orangy red shades to her...so I thought it was fitting, an autumn leaf.

Dizzy: I was bringing him home from the pet shop and my boyfriend at the time was the one driving. He was a crazy driver, mind you. as soon as I got home with him, the little guy appeared to be a little shaken up and almost dizzy, and he actually went as far as regurgitating a cricket he had eaten right before I got him...and so it earned him his name, which I thought sounded cute.

Rocket: She was my first baby, and was quite unexpected, as 9 eggs prior to hers had either been infertile, or like her sisters, unfortunately dried out on me. I was not expecting her to survive after what had happened to the other egg, but I was hopeful so I checked daily. well...I go check one night, not expecting anything, and zoom she shoots right at me...fortunately my fast reflexes shut the lid before she got out, but the first thing that came to my head was "damn that one is as fast as a rocket!"

Although I am undecided as to which of the two I am going to keep I will tell you about Mira and Abby

Mira: the name is simply short for miracle, as her and abby's eggs were both dropped (while in their container) and flipped over after having been incubating for over a week. I did not expect them to survive, but mira was the first to hatch out. though I think something might have been rattled there as she is one crazy little gecko! :)

Abby: possibly due to the drop as well, she came out with an abberant pattern on her back...all the others had come out with straight horizontal lines, maybe a spot or two, but her lines were almost diagonal on her, and she had no spots. So abby is simply short for abberant. To this day her spots and pattern stand out from the others, they are bolder and bigger...
And she is quite the opposite from her sister...she is the calmest gecko ever.

I like LOTR... Lol...
Smeagol- was supposed to be a boy but oh well. She's a girl.(Normal)
Yoda-Get a Star Wars/LOTR theme goin here! And he is so wrinkly! (my PA)
Luminara- Couldn't get a better Star Wars name! (PA)
Shelob- The giant spider in LOTR (Hypo tang)
Eowyn- Pretty name! Elf princess (flame crested)

(Orange tiger juvie cresteds)
Kermit- My little crested gecko dropped his tail and my mom said he looked like a frog!
Pippin- Hobbit
Chupa- In Mexico, they call geckos "chupitas" (Chupa means lollypop) because when they breathe it looks like they are sucking a lollypop!

I think I'm the only person here with only 2 geckos, lol, but thats ok.

Chorky and Gilbey are their names.
I wish I had some witty story, but that was just what their previous owner called them for 6 yrs, so I decided to stick with it.

I can share stories about our other animal names though!

My waterdragons name is Uncle Jake (Jake for short, and Jacob when he's in trouble), because I thought it was a fun sounding name. How many people can say : "My Uncle Jake eats mice and lives in a tree in our study." :D He really is a part of the family, and he thinks he has authority over me :)

The two med geckos I used to have (they passed away) were named Mary Jane and Peter Parker.

My dog's name is Mosley, we picked it out of As I Lie Dying, but it also ended up being a character's name from a screenplay that I hope makes it to the big screen.

Our chameleons were Wesley and Buttercup (Princess bride).

:)

My wife came up with the names of all but one of my geckos. that one baby from last year I named her Lucy but a few months later she turned out to be a he so I renamed him Luke

All of our leos names begin with "S". We started out with Spike(R.I.P.), a female normal from a horriffic pet store which will remain nameless. Squirty was the second, a tremper female. We didn't plan on the "S" theme there, but when we realized that we had two with the same letter we thought "hey great idea. lets stick with "S"!"

Well 26 later, and they are all named with and "S", lol and it aint getting easier to name them. We have sold a few, and recycled a few names so...

But here they are off of the top of my head:

Saber,Sobe,Snickers,Slinky,Spike2 Striker,Simba,Saturday,Shaman,Saturn,Saura,Sunkist,Sunset,Sunburst,Summer,Sporty,Spirit,Sioux,Squirty,Smiley,Spaz,Sultan,Savannah,Stormy,Shiver and Snowflake

We have also had Stripes,Skittles,Sunday,Sweetie,Sugar,Spice,Sandy,Solar,Shadow,Sprite and a few others we sold that I can't recall.

lol, we also have a SkinnyPig named Sammy.

Our last name begins with and "S" so maybe that had something to do with it.

Tony

I have a general theme for each gecko generation I produce. The first group of geckos I got (my founding group) were named after geography. Dakota, Yukon, and Ontario. The second generation (my first offspring) were named after constellations I could see in the spots on their heads. Orion, Lyra, and Pisces.

Of course, then I lost my train of thought somewhere along the line and just started naming geckos whatever I thought was cute at the time. Smudge, Art, Cody, Aidan are just a few.

Well, Im still working on names...
Here's what I have so far
Zippy- Probable Female Blizzard baby
Titan- Hybino male
Tails- Super Hypo Female (I bought her as a baby, and she was a small thing with a monsterously big tail!)
Sleepy- Tremper Albino. Named after one of the dwarves
Bashful- Het gal, she's always hiding so she got this name...
Aphrodite- Het gal, she's a real nice lookin one.

Non leo names...
Herculeza- Colombian Boa, she is the female version of Hercules..
Weezy- My dark central american boa
Flashlight- My creamsicle corn
Christmas- Candy cane corn snake
Zowie- Our YorkyPoo
Sammy- Mini poodle
Marshmellow- Guinea Pig
Tyleresha- Guinea Pig Originally Tyler, then found out to be a girl
Flappy- Parakeet
Daisy- Parakeet

I only have three leos at the moment so there is no theme right now. I do plan to breed them eventually though and when i do i will use a Japanese theme, maybe manga comic characters.

As of now I've got:

Mystic, named for a fantasy race in a comic i someday hope to publish. I like to draw a lot and I'm into the Japanese manga so i got into the comics etc etc. So she is a good luck leo i guess to keep me going with the comic.

Sobe, named after one of my favorite drinks :)

Chrysanthemum, just came to me. I wanted a big yet fluffy cute name. Plus these flowers surround my house in various flower beds.

Ok..Just remember that you DID ask this...

Gilean - The God of Neutrality in the Drangonlance books. He was so aloof about everything when I first got him.

Aurora - Just a pretty name to go along with the swirly colors she had as a baby.

Amber - Named for her yellow color.

Tigerlily - The dorsal stripe and spots makes me think of the flower.

Garnet - She had several rusty red spots when I got her.

Mirage - He was a gift/surprise, and I just couldn't believe my eyes.

Brimstone - His orange coloration makes me think of ... hot places ... not to mention, it's pretty manly.

Lost - She was in one of two packages lost by UPS on the same day. She got the "lost" part of the duo because she's a patty and is in the process of losing her pattern.

Found - The other one that was lost by UPS. That was one HORRIBLE day, and I was so happy to find them both alive and looking at me like I was a nutcase.

Ozzy (The-not-so-terrible) - Named by his previous owner for his horrible temperament and his fondness of biting. He's never been more than slightly cranky with me - nothing even close to biting.

Smiley - Named by her previous owner for one of two reasons (I'm guessing) ... she kinda has a smiley face pattern on her head ... she LOVES to look you straight in the eyes and give you a big grin.

Lilac - Named by her previous owner. You've got me...she's all yellow, black, and white.

Lady Luck - She's my 13th gecko, and could use a little luck on her side. Also was the last gecko I got before my first trip to Vegas.

Raya - Spanish for stripe - and she's a beautiful bold stripe.

Amante - Keeping with the Spanish theme for stripes, it means "Lover". He's got a smiley pattern on his head (A good lover will put a smile on your face..heehee).

Peek-a-boo - The first day I had her home she kept poking her head juuuust far enough over the edge of the paper towels to get a look around the room, then would duck down again. She did it over and over, it was very funny.

Ruby - My first Bell Albino. She was a bit stunned/stressed when she came home and had her pupils fully dilated, making them look like rubies.

Mine are all after cars................
Females:
Mercedes, eclipse, celica, elantra, jaguar, Jetta
Males:
Camaro, Viper

lets see.....I'll go in order of acquisition/hatching

Blinkers-ringlike markings abover her eyes...made me think of blinkers on horse bridles
Bronx-just seemed fitting
Stoli-alcohol (named acquisition of brook and pumpkin)
Brook-to go with Bronx
Pumpkin-she's orange and cute
Sake-alcohol
Hypnotiq-alcohol
Sambuca-alcohol
Taboo-alcohol
Strega-alcohol
4 as of yet unnamed hatchlings-alcohol....

sensing a theme?....hehehe The alcohol names are just names that seemed to fit the individuals...no specific reasons

and just in case anyone is interested...I also have Corona, Foster, Buie (although that one was actually unintentional....LOL), Zima, Campari, Rain, Skyy, Goose......

Speaking of alcohol...
My next pet is now going to be named Capt. Morgan.
The commercials make me laugh.
"Everybody's got a little captain in them"... Besides, that logo character is a tough lookin dude...

I don't have a system. I name them by there looks/personality.
