Chris,
I was looking to purchase a basin emerald from Mark and he was very prompt in sending me pictures of the animals he was offering. He seems a very knowlegable fellow, but doesn't keep very good records for these animals. This by no means is a knock on him, but when I am going to spend that kind of money, I want good husbandtry records! Just my observation.

Thanks for your response, Craig. Mark has two reptiles I'm interested in--leucistic fattails and amazon basin ETB's. I purchased a trio of het for leucistic fattails from him over two years ago, and although I was put-off by his sending $6,000 of animals to me "freight collect" when we hadn't even discussed shipping charges (I naively assumed $6,000 for 3 animals would qualify for "free shipping"), there aren't a lot of leucistic fattails or Amazon Basin ETB's available. I was pleased with the fattails he sent me, but the only two people I know of that have purchased from him recently said they would not buy again. One person got 3.1 het for leucistic beardeds (1.0 of which died shortly after receiving it) instead of 2.2, and the other person received a very small supposed male leucistic fattail ($650) via Delta CARGO (again, "freight collect", and the buyer assumed it was being sent Delta Dash) which took two days to get to him and died two weeks later. From what I understand from both buyers, their phone calls and e-mail messages go unanswered. Did you purchase the Basin from Mark anyway? If so, are you happy with it? I would love to hear of some positive experiences with Mark recently because I'm kind of spooked by what I've heard. Again, thanks for your response.

Chris,
Although I was interested in two of the basins, I did not purchase one from him. I have a modest collection of both basin and northern emeralds, which I intend to breed and wish to provide my future customers with accurate data on bloodlines and husbandtry. Although accurate records can only be kept on wild caughts from the time of acquisition, there is no reason not to have them for captive breds from birth. Mark, being unable to provide that information is what prevented my purchasing from him. I purchased a male neonate basin from Tony Nicoli, from whom I purchased in '99 as well, and am totally happy with his animals and will buy from him in the future. Since I am only interested in Emeralds, I can only relay my observations in thier regard.

I've purchased a nice Peruvian boa from Mark, and found him to be a nice fella who lived up to his end of the bargin. I recommend him.
