I purchased 0.2 50% poss. het. albino ball pythons from Ron Marchlewski. Mr. Marchlewski received the postal money order on February 27th, 2001. The snakes were going to be shipped the day after receiving payement. After many excuses as to why he couldn't ship my snakes to me, I finally received them on March 10th. The snakes arrived without the promised paperwork verifying genetics.

I called Mr. Marchlewski upon receipt of the snakes, and he informed me that only one of the snakes I received was the one I paid for. He substituted another female ball because the original one was sick. He informed me that both snakes were still 50% het albino. I requested paperwork at that time, and he said he'd send it in the mail the next Monday.

It is May 30th and I never received paperwork for the animals I purchased. My last written communication with Mr. Marchlewski was on March 23, at which time he informed me that he'd get the records to me "asap." I've left messages both at his home and work numbers since then, but have never received a reply.

Given that fact that Mr. Marchlewski is a "small" breeder such as myself, I gave him ample opportunity to make amends and informed him that I would be posting to this list if he did not. He never replied.

Mr. Marchlewski has not attempted to sell any animals recently. However, it would be wise to keep a look out for his animals. His email address is ron@hyperwareinc.com and work phone number can be located at the website associated with his email address: http://www.hyperwareinc.com

It sounds like you just bought yourself a very expensive pair of normal balls. Sorry to hear that, thanks for sharing and trying to prevent it from happening again.

I'll agree that Ron needs to improve on his communication skills and speediness of delivery. However, I'd believe Ron on what he says on genetics. I have recieved HIGH Dollar BP's from him (took me almost 4 months to get my animals after payment)!! Even though I was pretty PO'ed, the animals were even better than what he said. I still have those animals in my collection and they are doing fine.
Believe me, I've had my share of problems with him but if you can wait it out they are truly AWESOME snakes at VERY reasonable prices. ERIC

IN MARCH OF LAST YR I HAD THE SAME BAD EXPERIENCE W/ RON WITH SOME SUPPOSED '98 66 POSS HET ALBINO BALLS.. I WON A PR ON HERPAUCTION B4 THE SITE WENT DOWNHILL.. TOOK ME SOME TIME TO GET THE SNAKES BUT DID IN LATE MARCH VIA DELTA.. WHEN I OPENED THE BOX ON SITE, I FOUND ALMOST FROZEN BABY BALLS(A 1.2 ACTUALLY) WELL I WAS PRETTY UPSET SINCE, 1) THEY WERENT SHIPPED WITH ANY HEAT PACKS IN LATE MARCH, 2) I WAS TOLD THEY WERE YRLINGS AND THESE LOOKED LIKE BABIES, 3) NO PROOF THAT THEY WERE POSS HETS.. WELL IVE LEARNED THAT ITS RARE TO GET PAPERS ON POSSIBLE HETS SINCE THEIR POSSIBLY HETS.. I EMAILED HIM SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN CALLED THAT NITE AND FINALLY GOT RON.. HES TELLS ME THEY WERE LATE '98 BABIES AND HE ONLY FED THEM FUZZIES EVERY 4-6 WEEKS SO THATS Y THEIR SO SMALL.. WELL I SAW IT AS A LOST CAUSE TO ARGUE AND JUST DECIDED TO DEAL THE HAND I WAS DELT.. I FED THEM 2X A WEEK TILL THE END OF THE YR AND THEY GREW BUT BARELY AT A NORMAL RATE.. THEY FINALLY BRED THIS SEASON TO MY 100% HET MALE(AND STILL BARELY 1200-1300G) AFTER ALMOST 2 YRS.. I GOT 4 EGGS FROM ONE AND 3 FROM THE OTHER AND ALL WERE NORMAL LOOKING.. NOW IM NOT SAYING ANYTHING, RATIO WISE ITS POSSIBLE AND ALSO I WAS NEVER TOLD THEY WERE SISTERS BUT 100% BRED TO A 66% SHOULDVE SHOWED SOMETHING.. OR THEY WERE JUST OVER PRICED NORMS.. WELL LIFES A LESSON AND THAT TAUGHT ME TO JUST DEAL W/ GUYS I KNOW AND TRUST, OR GET MANY REFERRENCES.. GOOD LUCK,

Steve,

I'm not defending anyone here, but something that is 66% possible het means that there is a 66 percent chance that it is het, so there is absolutely NO guarantee that you will get the trait to show up. You were playing a crap shoot and you just lost out on the odds.

Just in case you don't know, the way you get a 66% het animal is when you breed two definite hets together, you will get approximately 25% homozygous, 25% normals, and 50% heterozygous. The problem is that the normals and heterozygous will look exactly the same. So there is approximately a 2 out of 3 chance that any normal looking animal you pick out will be heterozygous.

Hope this helps a bit.

I purchased 0.4 '00 66% het albino balls from Ron earlier in the year. I can't complain at all about the purchase experience, but I'd feel alot better about my possible hets if Steve had produced an albino. The animals arrived well packaged and in good shape. 3 of the 4 are excellent feeders, the other is a bit finicky in that it sometimes only takes live fuzzies.
