I just signed up as a bidder at the Herpauction.com. I was wondering if people could post their experiences with this service. Thanks a bunch in advance.

I have noticed a lot of items being sold before the scheduled end of the auctions (being removed or having comments like Item sold do not bid)

to me its nothing more than a buletin board. As long as people are allowed to end their auctions whenever they want, I don't see it as anything more than a glorified classifieds section.

I don't go there anymore just because of this. As with everything, check references before bidding, and if you bid and win, make sure you follow through.

I've actually had good experiences with herpauction. I won two snakes from two people that became highly recommended in my book (Mike Greathouse and Jim Hopkins). And I've sold a couple snakes to an appreciative customer. It depends on who's posting the animals--check their reps in the comments, and contact the sellers. good luck! fliptop (Andy Fotopoulos)

Hello,
I too have had both good and bad expierences. Most of my bidders have followed through, (but I've had a few who didn't - the good ones outweigh the bad) Also, I like the site for their feedback section, that's well done, and helpful. But my biggest problem with them is that the whole site just seems rather unprofessional. It looks great, but you see a lot of auctions that aren't really auctions, and I agree, it does look like a glorified message board. Finally - when it comes time for you to divy up for auction fees, they'll charge your card for everything, whenever they feel like it. Sometimes, (geez... usually 3-6 months later after auctions have closed!) That just kind of bugs me. I wish they'd either take their fees shortly after auction's end, or at least send you an invoice for everything when they're getting ready to charge your card. Maybe I'm being picky, but I feel that's somewhat unprofessional, too. They have both good and bad points, that's all I'm trying to say.
Take care,
Liz (Elizabeth Craig)

I had a disputed charge on my card for things i was selling but most of the buyers failed to send payment so I emailed and called the owner of the site but never recieved a response. My card was charged regardless so i disputed the charge and won. Last montyhs billed had 3 more charges for what i dont know. We'll those charges are in dispute (i'll win cause the credit card company can't even get a response from anyone there). It's gone down hill since it changed hands as before i could always get a reply via email and let them know that certain animals weren't paid for and they would take those off.
I will buy but won't sell until they become better customer oriented.

I'm not a big fan of Herpauction. I go there to look every now and then, but I don't believe I'll be selling on there again. I think I've only had two people follow through on the animal(s) they won from me. Even warning them in the auction description "DO NOT BID IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO FOLLOW THROUGH!" doesn't seem to help one bit. There needs to be some sort of 3 strikes and you're out thing.(Is there already? I know whenever I email the guy who runs it I never get a response)

I agree with Liz about the credit card thing. I had a charge show up 4 months after one of my auctions closed(which the winner backed out of). They really need to figure out how to charge at least MONTHLY like Ebay does. Even that would be better than whenever they feel like it.

Anyhoo..that's my view on it.

Be sure to check the sellers feedback and email them prior to bidding to work out any details. also the herpauction administrators are very nresponsive if you need to contact them. I have had good experiences here also though.
