This product an extremely versatile heat source. The fact that the heat cable is water resistant allows for it to be used INSIDE the enclosure in order to increase the temperature of specific areas of the enclosure.
Due to the structure of the cables, I do not use them in my racks simply because they somewhat interfere with the ease of access to each housing unit. I suppose that a rack can be designed to use this product fairly easily, but it seems like a fairly large amount of cable would be required to heat the rack properly.
Outside of the rack setting however, I find this product to be fantastic.
Unlike other space efficient heating elements, Heat Cable is very unlikely to cause burns when not attached to a thermostat, but will reach fairly high temperatures that COULD potentially harm your reptile. (depending on species)
Use of a thermostat will increase efficiency.

I've used the 52' Zoomed cable for over a year. It takes a lot of experimentation & work-Taping it down, over & over again until you have the right amount to properly heat your tubs-especially in the winter. It works great, though-once you have the proper amount taped under your tubs. You can cover the bottom of 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 etc of your tubs as needed to get your required temps. I use the cable with both a thermostat and a rheostat for maximum versatility. By the way-dont waste your money on the shorter lengths.

We originally bought one of these to heat under our BP's tank, it's a 55 Gallon. We had to place tape on the cord just to get it under the tank. After placing the tank on top of the cord, we noticed we had accidentally placed the tank edge on the conductor at the end, we lifted the tank, but the conducter had broken off. We then went to buy another and used it on our rack system with tubs, it worked better for that project, but it seemed very unpredicatable in the heating aspect. Some tubs were hotter than others, some were ambient temps. I would not recommend this product, but to each their own.

This can be a great product. I hooked it up and wrapped it around a branch several times. After it set for a while I tested it with laser thermometer. Some places it was over 150 degrees. I went back and read the package and found you cannot overlap the wire. So I followed the rules and did not overlap. The warmest place on it after that was just over 90deg. So follow the instructions or you could burn your animal.

Great product. Quickly and efficiently heats my small rack system to 91 degrees on the warm side. I have it hooked up to a rheostat and even on the lowest setting the element stays pretty hot. Coincidentally it is just the right temp for my intended daytime highs. On my way to trying this product with a thermostat.

I've been using for about six years now, Haven't had any problems with it. I built racks and had a cabinet guy, cut all the wood with three 1/4 slots 1 1/4" apart in the area to be heated across the back of the shelf's and also the side walls. I then laid heat cable in the grove on the shelf's and up the side walls to the next shelf and back across, then up to the next shelf, and so on. I tape it in the grove with alum. tape 1" x 2" strips, about every 6".
I use a thermostat to control heat.
I only had to use one line per shelf for shoe box racks, but I used three groves for the 26 quart boxes, so I could get the heat in early march for breeding, since the racks are in the garage.
With 3 groves of cable, heat runs about 85 - 90 degrees in 60-65 degree weather, work out real well. And the single cable about 75-80 degrees. The only problem I had was the end of the cable was hard to get through the transition between the two levels because the end of the cable is a little larger. I had to open up the ends of the shelf boards so the cable would pass through.You also want to install it when its warm, because it ex-spans in lenth when it warms up.
