    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm in pennsylvania and was considering breeding garters but I don't know if I need a liscese like for other animals.
Can anyone help?

Pa law

It is illegal to breed or sell any species of Garter native to the state of Pa. This is true even if your individual snakes were captive bred or obtained outside the state. The species in question would be the Shorthead Garter, the Eastern Garter, and the Eastern Ribbon Snake. You are also limited to possession of no more than 2 of each species. For species not native to Pa I believe there are no restrictions but safeguards must be maintained to prevent the introduction of non native species into the environment. The law does state that you can breed and sell them but that you must provide proper documentation as to the origins of the animals. The problem is the authorities do not accept any documentation as they are easily falsified.

The species of Garter in your state would not be the best choices anyway, and you have many other options that would not be legally questionable. You can submit further inquiries to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Their website is www.fish.state.pa.us/ and I highly recommend giving them a call.

One more thing to consider. If you plan on selling cb animals across state lines you should understand the laws in the receiving state. Some states have laws against purchasing species native to that state even from outside state borders. Granted this should be the responsibility of the buyer but if your buyer gets caught doing something the authorities may scrutinize his suppliers. If you are legal its no problem but it can still be more head ache than its worth. I would recommend all sellers use a disclaimer stating they will not sell animals to a location where their purchase or possession is illegal.
