Eastern DiamondBack Rattlesnake's
Anyone here keep them? How about a thread for them?
If you have them post some pic's and some info on your DiamondBack such as,age sex, lenght, weight and whatever else you'd like to share. As for me I've had cane break's before but never EDB's, I'm going to repticon in columbia,s.c on the 12th to pick up a male and female EDB that I've already paid for, just thought I'd save on shipping since I was going there anyway. The male is 3.5ft amd the female is 4ft, there around 2 to 3yrs old. They were caught in the wild as babies in south fla. there eating f/t rats with no problem. Once I pick them up I'll post some pic's of them. |
Here's a couple of pics of the one's I picked up yesterday.

The male is in the top pic and the female is in the last pic. The male is alittle under 4ft and the female is alittle over 4ft, their apprx 2 to 2/12yrs old.

Cool terrarium but are those pine needles as a substrate?
|
It's long leaf pine straw I picked up, I've been told it's o.k to use. One of their habitats is the long leaf pine forest. I want their enclosure to look fairly close to their natural habitat.
|
Switched out the substrate today because I was told with the straw there would be a better chance of bringing in mites or some other parasite.
I went with aspen. http://i1135.photobucket.com/albums/...psc94e3509.jpg |
You can use cypress as well

|
This is my new female I got a couple of weeks ago.
BTW-Sorry for the double pic. |
Very coo snakes.
|
Thank's.
|
Nice pics. I agree the pine straw looked cooler, but they look amazing on anything!
|
Yea I liked the pine straw to but I got worried about mites and other critters possibly being in the straw so I switched to aspen.

Beautiful snakes and a nice set-up! Nothing beats a nice EDB.
The only thing I might add would be some type of hide that wouldn't detract from your naturalistic look...maybe a large cork bark tube or something like that. |
Thank's, if you go back to the 1st page and look at the 6th pic you can see the hide behind the snake. It's just a wood hide I put together then through on some decorations but they really seem to like it.
|
Oh cool...didn't see that. Your snakes and set up looks great. Enjoy them!

That's a good pic. Man she's a big one. It's nice to see others that connect with there animal and not keep them caged all the time. A lesson for all.
|
Thank's, here's another pic. You can get alittle better view of her size in this one.

By posting photos of your "bravado", you are adding fuel to the fire in the battle against our continued ability to keep these fascinating animals. Venomous snakes have been part of my collection for 25 years, however I have never had the urge to pick one up and have never been envenomated. While a bite is always a possibility I prefer to keep the chances of it happening as remote as possible. I say this not to brag, but rather to demonstrate that a healthy dose of caution can significantly reduce a painful and potentially deadly incident. I seem to recall from a post you made either under your current username or your previous one, where you have been on the receiving end of at least one envenomation in the past. Somehow that doesn't surpise me. EDIT: A quick search confirmed the above recollection that you have been envenomated. http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...d.php?t=476871 This thread has a surprisingly disturbing insight into your views on the handling of venomous animals. http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...payara&page=12 |
