In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

S&S Exotic Animals, Inc. in Texas (Inquiry)

well another day in paradise if you are not an animal at theS-S Death camp. Went there today (10-2) to see for myself and try to hash out my turtle problem. Well to make a long story short, they didnt care I was told an out and out LIE to make a sale. Once they get your money you should just bend over grab your ankles and SMILE cause they are going to ride you arround the block. Nasty conditions, over crowding, wrong temps, you can watch MITES dance arround some of the enclosures.Never seen Condros in such deploreable conditions, set ups totaly wrong. They looked like jerky on a stick, no humidity, no air, it sickened me to see.Reptiles looked like they could use some regular feeding. Every snake I saw was under weight. Been Herpin for over 20 years, never seen anything like it.S-S is truly a Death Camp, They must pay someone so they can stay in busniess.People throw your money in the crapper before you spend it there, it will go farther than there reptiles

If I believe correctly, S&S exotics, which is just a few minutes drive from me, (and I have been there half a dozen times) sells the lower quality snakes and wholesale normals snakes from other breeders (specifically talking Ball Pythons) They also attend nearly every expo in the Houston and Dallas areas that they can and after seeing the state of their shop I wouldn't buy anything, either bird, mammal, or reptile from them.

I go there for bulk sale aspen bedding, Mazuri tortoise diet, and if my friend is in town for bird toys for her birds (she lives in the boonies of TX)

I would not buy livestock from them...just dry products.

S & S EXotics Houston- EXCELLENT

My experience with S&S Exotics was excellent , LET US BEGIN: I asked for a young tortoise- captive bred- - they sent me a wonderful specimen in health and perfect scutes.... packed to perfection including a correctly placed heat pack that arrived via fedex by 10:30am. I was given a tracking number ,via e-mail and notifications. not only was animal perfect, there were no mites and weight of animal, was heavy. Baby elongate tortoise immediately ate well. If baby tortoises are not cared for properly, they will perish quickly . Been keeping them for 40 years.
prior to sale I was sent photo of the exact animal I was buying and they were pleased not annoyed to send photos and info. I have been purchasing fine reptiles for many years and I to have been burned but S&S was a real pleasure.

Oops sorry was thinking wild rhino. S&S now I remember had to check my file. I had ordered two pink toes and they sent curly hairs instead. When I called to tell them they said they would fix it. I offered to pay shipping for the correct oes but not to ship back the curlys. They said that was fine.. I waited a week to hear back from them but no word.I then tried to call and was told the manager was not in he would call me. I have been holding my breath for over a year now.

I went there a couple of months ago, I remember seeing a tiger and a lion in their backyard haha. It is a very interesting place to visit, lots of exotic animals. I want to say not bad for a pet shop to be run out of house, it could be better but you can only have so much in a small house.

Can people not give there opinion without someone else jumping in trying to take up for some else ???

If they die, end of story. S&S will say it is your fault they died. I've spent over 1k on vet bills from one or two animals from them... do they care, they sure don't seem to.

sounds like my experience with them in the past as well. Suzette also claimed to get disconnected, but i do belive she hung up the phone. This is also the 2nd BOI on them this year i believe.

Because s&s is to short for the search engine and because people spell it different ways in the title

Make of it what you will but it isn't hard for me to form my own opinion.

A few people have posted that they received what they paid for. Those people are of course happy.

Many people have posted they have had extreme problems with external parasites. Some have reported internal and other heath problems.

Some have reported animals deceased and in very bad deterioration.

Those that have had problems have posted they have not received any resolution to their situations.

My personal conclusion to reading all the threads over the years ( I probably left out a bunch in the links above) , They don't give a damn.

You get a animal healthy and as advertised, great. You don't, to bad.

Go to love their terms of service page.

We do not offer any type of guarantee on our animals because we know they are healthy.

Not responsible for bacteria, virus or parasites in any of the animals you buy from us or the transmission of them to your other animals or self.

Are animals are inspected by a VET... So they have no guarantee, live arrival or if they have or spread parasites.

You walk out that door. HA, HA, if you have any problems.

Lovely People. Top Notch Terms of Service.

You probably didn't get a call back because the managers/owners are WOMEN.

I can't remember if I posted on this particular thread or on another one, but I bought a female corn snake form them who I was assured was eating weekly. I brought her home and for the next month and a half, tried to feed her the smallest pinky mice I could fine (usually about a gram or less). She regurged every. single. time. I took her to the vet (a herp vet) and he said that she lacked the ability to digest food. This was probably 3 years ago so I don't remember the exact wording. However, I chose to have her put down so she wouldn't suffer.

I see S&S at every show and I avoid their table like the plague. All my friends also know that I do not care for their business practices and are respectful to my wishes when we attend shows together.

I've purchased a few animals from them in the past. The first was my female V. beccarii, which they misidentified as male, but I was nonetheless happy with my purchase. She eats roaches, mice, young rats, grasshoppers, cut up meat, cut up day old chicks, and cut up quail. Most anything that was once a living animal or still is at the right size, she eats. They later told me they don't really sex the monitors and it was a best guess. This was summer of last year. At the show last weekend I purchased a V. timorensis baby that has been nothing but great. Light on his feet and at times a bit flighty, but never bitten me and eats like a champ. Happy with both purchases and will continue to buy from them.

I live in the Houston area, and have been to S&S at least twice a year for the last 3 years to see if they have even improved the conditions they keep their animals in. First off, it's located in the middle of no where in what appears to be a T-Shack style mobile home. They keep a lion and a tiger in less than adequate conditions in the back of the so called yard of their property. I was there about 2 months ago, and the tiger appeared to have a limp - not good in my book. Onto their reptiles, most of them are kept in cramped conditions with inadequate lighting. Many of the reptiles I have seen have cases of MBD, mites, what appears to be RI, and the list goes on. Earlier this year, they were keeping a 9 or so ft crocodile monitor in "quarantine" in what appeared to be a 75 gallon tank with no lights; all I saw was a screen lid with locking clips on the sides, and repti bark as substrate.

The owners are two women who at first glance, seem to be nice people. But once you've pointed out to them a few faults in their care, they flip. I'm surprised this place is still open. I once tried getting some footage of the conditions using a video camera, about a year ago - they made me delete it right before them. The only things I've ever purchased from them are supplies.

This place is trash, they breed their rodents in the bathroom in terrible conditions. I would never purchase any animal from them, and I would strongly advise others not to.

I am so glad I have learned to look people up on here before buying from them. My question is this- isn't there any kind of agency to call and report the conditions in which they keep their animals? I live in Pa but I'm guessing Texas has some similar rules regarding animal mistreatment and abuse right? you would think if someone inspected them they might shut them down. One can hope

No one has called the animal cops?

There should be. I've called the FL people on stores with deplorable conditions before. Quite frankly I'm surprised no one hasn't yet, if the conditions are as horrible as they are saying. That would be the first thing I would do, as its not difficult, but that's just me. Worse thing that will happen is they wont have such a system in place (hard to believe) or wont have the manpower. But you're still no worse off and at least you'd have tried. I would do it but it has to be someone with first hand experience and who is able to give an account on what they have seen. If someonr has been there could you please do this? I hate hearing about sick animals :(
