100-pound python goes missing in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE -- A large Burmese python is on the loose after escaping from its home in South Norfolk over the weekend.

Medusa stretches out to about 12 feet long and weighs in at nearly 100 pounds, according to Tommy Kullman, a police spokesman.

The python was a gift to Niki and Mike McNulty less than a week ago, but already the two love him dearly.

``He's our baby, and we just really want him back,'' said Niki of the snake, one of three that she owns.

Medusa is by far the largest of the three, with an entire room set aside for him in their house near the intersection of Poindexter Avenue and Stewart Street.

The couple noticed Medusa missing on Saturday morning, meaning he slithered out sometime either late Friday night or in the early morning hours of Saturday.

According to McNulty, the reptile will only survive in warm temperatures, about 80 degrees, and will feed only when necessary.

``He usually feeds on rats or mice,'' said McNulty.

If you should come across Medusa, please contact Chesapeake Police at 382-6161.

OMG, wonder how that snake just slipped out!
And I can imagine some unsuspecting neighbor finding it, wow.
