Ok so I have years of experience owning and caring for boas of all species, but when it comes to breeding I've only bred Dumerils. I'm thinking about doing red tails soon since I have so many, but I have a few questions and concepts that I don't really understand. First of all, is crossing localities of red tails (Colombian, Central American, Hogg Island, etc) like crossing locals of other species? I breed Green Tree Pythons and it's really no big deal when you cross those locals. But I mentioned once pairing my CA with a Colombian and someone flipped and was like "Why would you create muts! No one would want those, its stupid to breed a CA with anything other than a CA.." blah blah blah.
So I guess what I'm asking is, is it really that big of a deal to have a mixed local boa?
Also, pretend I were to do a CA x Colombian pairing. Assuming there are no hidden genes for morphs or anything, would the litter come out with some babies looking like mom and some like dad and some like both? Or...how does that work?
I'm mostly asking this because the female that I want to breed is a CA and I have LODES of males her size but none are CA. I do have access to pairs that have produced before that are the same local, but those guys are 9+ft and I don't want to end up with a hundred babies, and I don't have room for them in my house, where I would move them to if I wanted to breed. My CA is only around 6ft and is already established in my house and I do have space for a male around the same size.
And for fun, here's my female, Diamond
