I just got back from one of my local reptile society meetings. The speakers were discussing reptile diseases and specifically talked about IBD in boids. I know IBD has been found in Boa constrictor and various pythons but hadn't known it was confirmed to be in tree boas.
Apparently in '09 the cal sciences had an outbreak of IBD and it was found in Colombian boas and in their annulated tree boas. They had a bad mite outbreak at this time as well. It appeared to have originated with the annulated tree boas! Very interesting (and disturbing of course). They also found a new virus that seems to be associated with IBD but not linked in every case.
I spoke with the gentleman that is doing the viral research and they are looking for more specimens. So if you know of any suspected carriers of IBD, boas, pythons, even mites, they want those specimens to continue their research. You can contact me and I can put you in touch or help facilitate getting them the animals for testing. PM or email me at

thanks!
