Leopard Frogs or Green Frogs
Hello everyone--
I am an environmental educator in Newark, NJ. The organization I work for serves those students in the surrounding urban areas (Newark, Elizabeth, Irvington, Jersey City, etc). I am in the process of creating a setup for a few native frogs for a new program we are developing. I would like to make it look as naturalistic as possible, but still have the students be able to view the frogs easily during the program. (And don't worry--the students will NOT be handling the animals!)
I just submitted the proposal for the setup to my supervisor and approval may take a little while but looks very promising.
Now for the fun part--finding the actual frogs! I know I can purchase leopard frogs from Carolina Biological Supply, but I would really prefer to get them from someone who has more specific experience with frogs. Does anyone have either species for sale, or know of someone who breeds them? If someone were interested in donating, we are a tax-deductable organization (and I would make sure a special “thank you” was posted on our Facebook page as well, haha). I did put a line-item on the budget for purchase of the frogs, so if selling them is preferable, that’s not a problem at all. I’m kinda leaning towards leopards, since from what I’ve read they’re a bit heartier than greens.
Like I said, it may be a few weeks before I can actually obtain the little guys, pending approval and how long it takes me to set up the tank. Just wanted to get a jump on things (and if I have to defend my proposal, I already have some leads on the animals).
Thanks so much!
