Some info about the species:
This is a very hardy and easy Uroplatus species to keep and breed.
In the wild these geckos live in the bamboo forests of NE Madagascar where is very humid all year round, and temperatures range from 70 to 85F.
In captivity we care for them the same way as crested geckos.
A heavy mist every evening before the lights go off, room temperature, 72-80F.
Sphagnum moss with eco earth as a substrate (bioactive is always prefered).
We keep our juveniles in vertical glass terrariums 12 x 18 with plenty of foliage, both horizontal and vertical branches, and bamboo sticks where they camouflage perfectly when sleeping👌🏻
Adults get large, around 11”, and should be kept in an 18 x 30 or taller. When breeding we highly recommend using uvb 5.0 for females especially, for calcium absorption. This will not only help the female to remain solid during the breeding period, but will also help them produce solid egg shells.
This is an awesome and very interesting species.
Their wooden appearance together with their cat-like movements, and other interesting behaviors we have observed, make them very unique for sure.
For instance, when feeling threatened they will jump from a branch and land in a stiff position pretending they are a stick.
What a fascinating creature!
