In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I want to share the horrific experience with GeneralExotics.com, so that people can be aware of what happened to me before they think of purchasing anything from this person.
I purchased 2 male Red Eyed Tree Frogs from them. When I recieved them, I opened the package right way, and was horrified. They were, according to my standards, packed terribly. The containers the frogs were in had almost no cushion/support - so the frogs were probably knocked around a great deal. The cold pack they provided was broken and leaking everwhere, and I believe it was put into the box like that by whoever packed the frogs. This is because the cold pack was punctured several times, yet there was absolutly no damage to the outside of the box. Both of the frogs were dead on arrival, and I truly believe this was due to the carelessness and neglegence of the person who packed the frogs, and certainly not that of the carrier.
I was sent two replacement frogs, after getting a very rude responce about my complaint. I was told that the frogs were alive and fine when they were packed, that the packing job and cold pack were as they should have been, and, did I honestly believe they would send me dead frogs that weren't packed well with a damaged cold pack. As if I were crazy or something, and that they couldn't possibly have made a mistake.
Well, when I recieved the replacement frogs, I once again opened the package right away. They had put more moist paper towel in the containers the frogs were in, and the cold pack was intact. Unfortunatly, one was fine, but the other was clearly dieing. He was extremely thin, barely breathing, limp and lifeless. He also had black color splotches all over his back. He died about an hour after I opened the package. I found it suspicious that one frog was so sick, and one was healthy and still is (2 weeks later). They were both subjected to the exact same things during transit, yet one arrived in horrible condition and the other was unaffected by the shipping what so ever.
GeneralExotics.com claims to have a 98% sucess rate with live arrivals, yet 3 out of 4 frogs I was sent died. I call that a 25% sucess rate. It's ultimatly your decision whether or not you purchase from them or not, but as an extremely unsatsified customer, I advise that you not.
I have also shared my experience with the USARK and the BBB, and will continue to share my experience with everyone and anyone who will listen.
Thanks for reading - and expect that General Exotics will most likely try to defend themselves.

Do you have any emails you can post from the whole transaction? Sorry to hear about your bad transaction.

Do you have pictures of the package , also of the doa , emails to support your claim of the rude response , ect ?

My apologies for a bad experience

Customer notification Email:

"When I recieved my pakage this morning, I opened up right away and was extrememly dissatisfied. The two male red eyed tree frogs were both DOA. It smells terrible - like they have been dead for a while. They packing job was very poor - the frogs were not properly secured in the deli cups. And the cold pack was busted - It has holes in it and is leaking, and it seems unlikely that it busted during shipping. I think it was busted when it was put into the box because the box and lining were not damaged.
I am requesting two replacement male red eyed tree frogs. I have provided a picture of the deceased animals in their shipping containers, in front of the box they came in, and I have more pictures of the shipping label, the dead frogs and the busted cold pack that i can send to you if you need. I did not throw the frogs away yet- they are in the refridgerator because the smell is so bad."

General Exotics Email Response:

"I am sorry that your frogs did not arrive alive. That's always a tragedy we hate to hear about. I can assure you that the frogs were alive, the cold pack was as it should be and the packing was adequate when it left our facility. Do you actually believe that we would put dead frogs in the container and a broken cold pack with inadaquate packing? We will provide two replacement frogs as our guarantee states but you are responsible for the additional shipping charges. Do I have your permission to charge your card $40 to ship the replacement frogs to you?"

Also attached customer picture of DOA Red Eye Tree Frogs for your inspection.

Have you contacted them about the third dead frog and did they offer to replace it?

The first cold pack is easily explained. I have had a couple that I used leak during shipping. The problem is that a small puncture isn't apparent till the pack starts to thaw.

I cannot find any contact emails from the customer after the 2nd shipment. Not saying there wasn't. If there was, the evidence will have to come from the customer.

Ok, well that's not true, because by your own admission, you are a broker and not in possesion of the animals and therefore you do not pack them yourself. So how exactly do you know for sure what the packing job was like?

Yes, I can see now that the cold pack is my responsibility. As a consequence, I should not have charged you shipping on the second order. I'll make it right.

Eric

Do you in fact have a facility, and do you keep and ship critters from that facility?

Was the cold pack wrapped in newspaper or any type of protective covering.. I wrap mine and tape it so that if it does leak there's less chance of the chemicals affecting the animals I'm shipping?? Just curious because the chemicals from cold packs can be toxic! Also... Eric... I hope that you do make this right... If you are the one receiving the payment then by all rights you are the one responsible for the packing and shipping of the animals in question! At least make sure that whoever is packaging is trained to do so properly to avoid these types of issues!!

Charging a customer shipping charges after they recieved dead frogs is BS. I would never do business with your compnay if I ordered an animal and it showed up dead then had to pay more money for that situation to be fixed. How is it the persons fault? Live arrival Guarantee is just that a Guarantee. Not oh they are dead send us more money.

How pathetic do you have to be to have a Live arrival guarantee but then charge the customer for shipping again due to animals arriving dead because of problems with your packaging. That is sad and pathetic in my book and you can d@mn well bet I will never do business with this company or suggest them to anyone EVER

There was a little bit of newspaper in the box, but there was nothing covering the cold pack - and the jelly stuff was all over the frogs container, which had ventilation holes. The fact that the stuff could be toxic was one of my concerns, and could have been the cause of death.

I think it's time for them to watch the video of how to properly package your reptiles that you can find just about anywhere on the web if you take the time to look!! I also agree that it's pathetic to charge for shipping AGAIN when you guarantee Live Arrival!! This was noone's fault but General Exotics!!

Eric... Please answer the questions put forth by the members on here... Did You Yourself Package these frogs, and do you in fact have a facility that you are present at the time of packaging?? This could be your solution to avoid any other shipping tragedies... train your people properly if you don't in fact do the packaging yourself!! I feel so sorry for those frogs.. they didn't deserve this :(

Shipping Charges refunded

I've already agreed that the broken cool pack is my responsibility and the additional shipping charges are being refunded. Check back earlier in this discussion.

So I've already sent a second shipment, and now it is completely free of charge. Have I fulfilled my guarantee?

One of the frogs from the second shipment did not arrive alive. Do I owe her another frog free of charge (including shipping)? Your honest opinions please.

Hell yes you do. The live arrival of orders are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. There is obviously something wrong with your "supplier" and their shipping practices. You either owe this person another frog or a refund of the purchase price of 1 frog.
