In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Can't seem to reply in my own threads...

Nice...I see how it is, Nick.
Except there is no reference to selling in my post. Granted, one of those pics appears in one of my ads - but I pulled all of those pics out of my test thread (one of these days, I'm going to have to start posting in the photo gallery...I've just never looked into it)

Using the tags like that is in my opinion the best way to post multiple animals in a single ad. I prefer to put relevant information right next to each picture.

When I do it this way I usually still attach one image as well so there's a thumbnail that shows on the main classified listing, but you know it will always appear after everything else in the ad so you can ad pertinent information for it too.

I know this was said out of sarcasm earlier (by a moderator/site owner?) but implementing more ads per page perhaps double what it is now, 25 ads per page roughly to 50 would be helpful to slow down the need of paying users to bump their ads to the first page, and hopefully let all of us see some new ads on the first page along the way(perhaps longer then a few hours anyways).

Thanks for taking a look,
Jesse

Maybe so....but the problem is also one of perception and not actual statistics. If Rich doubled the number of ads on the front page, it would seem cool for a little while. But before long, folks would once again be frustrated at the rate at which ads drop from the top of the page...and they'd forget all about how it felt when there were half as many ads listed....and would want bigger front pages. (And I guarantee you, there would be some who would complain about their ads simply being near the bottom of the front page...."Who's gonna scroll all the way down? Nobody does that, they just look at the top ten listings or so, so my ad should always be allowed to stay in the top ten!")

Not saying Rich might not give it a try....I never know what he's gonna do. LOL I'm just offering a typical thought process from an admin who is constantly asked to tweak this and tweak that.

I see your point now, I did not think of the possibility that people would bump an ad to the top of the same page if the page was considered too long.

well cant the classifieds thing be set to allow bumps only once or twice a day. after all it seems like people overuse the bump thing so maybe a limit can be issued so that only 2 bumps a day are allowed. i dont know just an idea

If u get a membership u can bump all day to ur hearts desire.
If he implied just one or 2 a day,

A. He'd still have to pay his programmer
B. Members could just wait for u to use ur once a day bump and then just hit u back down or use 2 bumps, and then a whole new string of complaints will come his way.

I thought that woulda been a good idea until the above popped into my mind

The rest of this post isnt directly towards u Mike, Im just typing it in here for the general public while it fresh in my head.

Being able to bump is a benefit of being a paid member. Rich used it as an advertising tactic to get people to support the site and get it to where its at today. Everyone wants to keep their ad on the first page. That an advertsiing tactic Rich provides for us all. Because of the site growing and the increasing number of users, he needed to increase the number of bumps per level of coin member.

Hes tried hes best to accommodate everyone on here logistically and fairly.

Before u comment again on this thread ask urself,

"How many animals, feeders, and supplies have I bought and sold because of this site?"

Now take the monetary value of those animals and products and add them up.

Do u really think its so much for Rich to ask $25 a year for all that business that takes place on a site he maintains and provides to us all?

And the best thing about it is that if u dont want to contribute then u dont have too, u can still sell, buy, ask for help, shoot the :censored:, and build lasting relationships on his site.

I dont know what else to say to anyone who still has a problem with this. Its not gonna change. This is how it is until Rich sees a logical, fair reason to change it again, which I doubt u could get much more balanced than it is. Like I said before, if u dont like it u can always go start ur own site, and make all the rules how u want.

the problem is not with bumping now, everytime I get on here(which is a few times a day), there are multiple people(not going to name names), that just post their ads over and over again to keep them on the front page and to get views. any way to fix this problem now? They just repost them over and over...

If they are willing to do all that then by all means go for it. I remember it being brought up before and im not sure but I think even Rich mentioned it before and said go for it. You would have to read back and see to know for sure.

You aren't likely to see us discourage people from advertising. We knew that some people would simply repost their ads to move them up...and there isn't a problem with that, as long as they delete their old ads as they go. If they leave in their wake a trail of repeated ads, that will be addressed with them; but our goal was never to prevent people from aggressively marketing their animals/products.

Allow me to use u as part of my example Steven, just hypothetical. Since u look on the site a few times a day that means if u had an ad u can repost it and still have time in ur day. Some people here not only run large scale breeding programs, but still work a full time job as well. So for their convience there is a bump option, that way they can bump all their classifieds in the short time they are able to come on here. They pay for that convience. (although im sure alot of them just want to support the site)

That is true, I see the point now, it just irks me sometimes seeing the same posts always up there lol. But dont get me wrong, IMHO, I believe that this is the best forum/classified site out there. For reptiles and everything else.

Then god forbid you ever decide to make this more than a hobby. Cause without some sort of advertising.... your doomed. Those that have made it in their chosen field have not done so just by sitting back and hoping great fortune falls on them. They bust their butt to get there. In my eye's... staying on top of your advertising is part of that process.

Sure.... I could post an ad and just say.... welp.... I've posted. Now I can sit back and hope. Meanwhile my ad gets lost in the massive shuffle of old posts. OR I can attempt to keep my ads fresh in everyone's mind.

Truth is... if you see something enough times you will remember it. That's why you see the same commercials over and over and over inside a few hours span.

Yea I do see your point really, but when I see the same ads, I aslo cant help but thinking, "If someone really wanted them, they wouldve been bought by now."

Well, there's no controlling what goes through the minds of each and every individual who looks at your ad. The fact is, the most effective advertising methods are ads that are "in your face" and repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. Annoying? Yes. Obnoxious? Sometimes. But...it is what it is.

Yea I do see your point really, but when I see the same ads, I aslo cant help but thinking, "If someone really wanted them, they wouldve been bought by now."

Not if that someone that really wanted them hasn't looked 5-10 pages deep in that section. Just because you have seen them and didn't want them doesnt mean that someone logging in after you might not feel the same way.

Case in point. After one of my ads got bumped to the top because of a question... I had someone else see it and placed an order. So you may get tired of seeing ads your not interested in... .but keeping ads within the first few pages gets sales.

I never said I was not interested in the ads, just said there were a few that were always up there. Just stating opinions remember, not trying to get attacked lol. I just think smaller breeders are having a hard enough time as it is. And now all of the bigger breeders are just reposting every day. But business is business...

Well, you may want to look at the evidence you are bringing up here and ask yourself the question "How did the bigger breeders GET to be 'bigger breeders'?" :D
