In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info *Kris Smalley : Disturbing photos

Kyle,

While I understand your point, I have to disagree but let me give you some examples...

1)What if the roommate is absolutely terrified of snakes and wouldnt step foot in that room. My parents are my landlords as I am buying their old house. They dont even come over (or come inside) at the very least. I can get them to "drive-by" but they wont step foot inside, not even my father.

2)That room could have been locked up so tight that you would have to break the door down to get in. If that roomie had no knowledge of the filth behind the door, you really cannot associate them with that mess.

3)Maybe the roomie did all they could to get out of that particular situation as quickly as they could (financially speaking) and is now bringing this to the attention in proper channels. Sometimes, we take it for granted, but a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck and cannot just up and make a life-changing decision at the drop of a hat.

My .02

I can agree and see your point Dean. The whole situation just kinda made my blood boil and its hard to look past or have an excuse for the roomie. but if I was the roomie and could smell what I could imagine it smells like I might think to myself..... is he storing dead people in there?

Thanks for reminding me people are innocent until proven guilty

There is no way anyone in that house didn't smell that. We tore off our roof and we think we accidentally trapped a mouse in the wall. It definitely died and we could smell it throughout our house for almost a week. I would have to assume that a dead snake would be worse, plus all that waste. Those pictures are disgusting and I feel so bad for the animals. No matter who owns them or lives there, someone needs to take care of them.:(

It's not that I don't believe they're his animals. It's more like this is no more then a 3rd party post. The OP posted pictures with info that was sent to her by someone who is not posting in the thread. Which not only breaks the rules of the BOI, but makes this whole ordeal hearsay. Am I wrong?

We really need that "housemate" that took the pictures to post. The person the post is about should post too, but I doubt he will, because you just can't make a good enough reason for those pictures.

Youd be surprised at what you cannot smell if you become so accustomed to smelling it on a daily basis. Also, if his caging doesnt allow for a lot of airflow, it will also trap some of the stench within the cage and/or the room itself. If I have a dead rat feeder or snake in a tub, I wont smell it in the room for at least 3 days. Now, on the fourth day, the room stinks mildly enough that I have to go through 150+ tubs to find out where it is.

Now my whole point is if the roomie NEVER goes into that room, they can get used to the smell that comes from that room as it wont stink up the whole house. At least it doesnt stink up my whole house. They may also not go on that particular side of the house too. I know that if I changed the room design of my home, I could have a roommate that would never smell a dead snake in my home based on the design of my home.

Again, not giving anyone an excuse but, I think we need to focus on one person being responsible for this issue, not everyone else around them.

I agree. I'd really like to hear from the owner.

I'm definitely not blaming anyone else. I just don't think it's possible to live with that and not know about it. I personally would have to do something about it (whether it's cleaning for them or notifying someone about it).

If you don't find a rat for three days, you're neglecting your animals. Hell, the water should be changed AT LEAST as often as three days IMO, but the animals should be looked in on daily if you ask me. For security, for safety and for their health.

:iagree: They had their chance to take control of the problem and did nothing, which makes them an accessory to the fact. If I had a roommate whos animals were kept in this condition, he/she would have one choice.... move out immediately and leave the animals or I will call the police and have you arrested for animal cruelty, and if he did move out I would still make his name public to save peoples animals who might sell to him or buy from him. Plain and simple his roommates new the right thing to do and did nothing and I dont wanna hear and BS that it wasn't their place to say anything.

If and when these names come out all parties involved will be on my DO NOT BUY LIST.

:iagree:

While it is a good thing that there is finally some effort to bring the owner to task, even if the housemate and Jackie (and who knows how many others) were just friendly bystanders, it is pretty appalling that they would see animals in this situation and do nothing for months. You know in the time it took the animals' enclosures to get to that level of filth a lot of people had to have gone through that house and realized something was terribly wrong. Rotting corpses, feces everywhere, 'coated' pest strips, these things can't be easy to hide.

the OP posted a link to their picture account... you should ask the flicker account person.... i understand why to keep it on the D.L., their could be legal reasons, or just fear of Kris...whatever it is...it dont matter and doesn't change the fact that it needs to be heard and it was...

I agree. Scared of snakes or not, being roomies you would think at some point there would be an odor, or even a quick glimpse into the room out of curiousity or whatever. I understand what Dean is saying about rooms being contained in the specific room, but something would of had to give that away at some point. Someone that isn't knowledgeable about herps may have assumed they just had an odor and didn't say anything, and just happen to get a look into the room and seen the filth. Or there may have been promises to get it cleaned up, and they just got fed up with it and turned him in. I am not the cleanest person on earth, my herp room is never perfect, but for someone to go to this level just blows me away. Animal hoarding?

But Jackie said repeatedly that multiple people witnessed the room in that condition. She included herself in that statement until I tried to pin her down and she backed up some.

Smalley says he's created an account but cannot log on/ is waiting for it to be approved.

You are ASSuming that I dont check my snakes but every three days Richard. I was using that fact as an example of how your sense of smell deteriorates if you get used to a smell. I also have a rat breeding facility, a hedgehog room, a sugar glider room, and now a part time retail outlet as well so I dont smell anything, ever.
If you think that every rat tub gets changed every 3 days in everyones rat breeding then you know some awesome people who have a lot of time on their hands. I dont full on check every tub daily, not enough time in a day for me to do so.
Dont try to change this towards me based on the fact that I simply said that you lose your sense of smell if you get used to it and used an example.

that wasn't the case...someone went over their and thats when they found it. didnt live their.............

the person that took the pics did nothing wrong and didn't neglect the reptiles, found them that way..

If it was his ex girlfriend who took the photos she may have been fine with the situation until they broke up... girls are pretty vindictive little creatures

Since I'm the accused party, here you go...

Yes, that was my snakeroom, yes, the lack of care did happen in the months the pictures were taken, and no, I am entirely responsible. My housemate who happens to clean kennels at at Vet's office and was going to take over cleaning the snakes enclosures for that period of time. I totally let it slack, I didn't check up on her, and to be honest, I've never been ill with flu-like symptoms that kept me flat out sick as a dog. I'm ultimately responsible for every atrocity that happened under my roof, just as I am ultimately responsible for 95% of the reptiles in my home being killed by a faulty 60+ year old furnace I'd repeatedly asked my landlord to replace. My housemate didn't move out under duress, she gave me 30 day notice, had even thanked me for helping her to grow personally while she attended Massage Therapy School, and these pics and false information are now being posted because she is financially in over her head and wants to be able to abscond without paying her half of the last utility bills and rent. As to the other comments regarding The Retic Ranch and the gentleman with the boa with a sore on her nose, I was never going to be in a partnership with them, and the tiger retic he sent me had a horrible face rub and raw, swollen head that he said all tigers do when bagged. That's it, say what you want, judge me as you like. I'm parting with every remaining reptile, selling the equipment, and want nothing to do with Ms. Erne or the former housemate.

Wow Kris, now thats a man right there, taking responsibility for your actions. I personally commend you for that, even though I think the conditions were absolutely disgusting and cruel. Thanks for coming on here and being a real man...

Are you freaking for real! That was your sad ass excuse of an apology? Kick me off this forum if you want for saying ass but you are the biggest ass I have had to read about in quite a while. If I may suggest to the Fauna account team, delete kkevs active status immediately.
You killed animals Kris! And for what? To be able to show off and say you're a snake keeper or something. You deserve the minimum sentence in jail they give fools for extreme cases of animal abuse when people let dog and cats die. I wish I could share with you my real emotions about how much of a disgrace you are.
