In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hey guys...long time no see/chat...

Been awhile since I've been around here, definitely missed it. How have you all been? How are your collections/businesses doing?

I've been OK, the last 2 years have definitely been a rollercoaster. Divorced now, share custody of my daughter who will be 5 years old in April. My ex is out of the Army and lives here in Wisconsin, is going to school full time. We get along great, just had to get past the end of the relationship. I just made the decision to finally use my VA benefits and go back to school as well...just kinda stuck between a BS in Gerontology or a BS in Veterinary Technology. Animals are my passion, but I also enjoy geriatric healthcare and there is more money to be made there plus a very secure future. It's a tough choice.

This summer I got a message out of the blue on Facebook from Anthony McCain, wanted to see how I was doing. We started chatting again for a couple months, and I went down to Iowa for 5 days in October to check out his collection and help out with some chores in his snake building. Was a lot of fun, and I seriously never imagined I'd ever get to see/hold some of the rare stuff that he's got. At one point I had a pile of hatchlings in my hands, 4 regular crystals and 2 sulfur crystals. It felt surreal. The more we talked herps, the more he pushed me to give it a try again. I had really been against it since I lost everything, but he said it's been 2 years, it has been more than enough time, and even just 1 or 2 projects could be really enjoyable. So I thought about it for a few weeks. I already had a rescued female ball python that I adopted right before summer, and she's been thriving and doing well. I don't have a single tub or piece of husbandry left from the whole experience, not even a deli cup or a packing peanut. I trashed everything, so there's nothing left that could be contaminated. I also live in a new apartment, moved into the city. I always wondered if my new female had potential, so I decided on 2 projects. I picked up an awesome striped male lesser from Jason at Mighty Morphs to pair with my female next year, to see if they might throw some pretty babies. Anthony thinks she may be something like a mystic or phantom, and my friend Kyle thinks the same, but I'm just happy she's a pretty, healthy girl. And lessers are something I never got the chance to have the first time around. I also decided to work on a genetic reduced pattern super high contrast albino, as that's one of my favorite projects that I used to have. I used to be in love with the dark orange and crisp white albinos that Deb Northern produces, so I contacted her to see if she had any available, but unfortunately she was sold out. I hope to get one this spring if she has any females. John Quinones happened to have a proven genetic co-dom reduced pattern male for sale that was 50% het albino, and when I contacted him about purchasing him, he shocked me by offering to give him to me for just the cost of shipping. He was scammed by Damian Wyatt a few years before me, and knew somewhat of what I had gone through, so he wanted to help me out. He sent a beautiful healthy male that looks EXACTLY like the two co-dom reduced males I had in my original collection, so very likely the same genetic line. I absolutely adore him and couldn't thank John enough for his generosity. Then just recently, Outback Reptiles posted two of the most incredible reduced pattern HC albinos I had ever seen. I knew I HAD to have the female, as aside from being reduced pattern and super HC, she was STRIPED. And if you guys remember, I am obsessed with stripes. lol! So I contacted Josh, who worked out a payment plan for me. Put a deposit on her and should have her paid off in a couple more weeks. After looking at her, her brother, and the other clutchmates who all had the severely reduced pattern, Josh thinks there's a high chance it is genetic and probably co-dom, so if it is, and I hit the 50% het albino in my male, I may see my final result within the first clutch. Then I hope to refine it and further darken the contrast. I can only hope Karma may be that kind to me after everything I went through. My boyfriend lives in the bigger 2-bedroom apartment just down the hall from me, and we set up my quarantine in his bedroom, so that all new acquistions are in a completely separate location with separate ventilation from each other for a minimum of 30 days for animals from trusted sources, 60 days from anyone else. If they don't feed or show any strange signs, it gets extended until the problem is resolved. They don't move to my apartment until I completely feel comfortable that they are healthy and feeding well. I don't trust ANYTHING anymore.

Here's my normal gal -- she eats like a garbage disposal, anything and everything, which is awesome considering how skinny and weak she was when I got her. She was part of a large police raid on a drug dealer that had a small but decent ball python collection and other exotic pets. She had a couple other mystic/phantom/mojave-ish looking ball pythons at the rescue along with her, including one that was ALL blushed out, no background coloration at all, but he got adopted lightning quick. First pic is the one VaRR had on their website:

Here is the lesser male, who is almost 160g now and eats really great on live adult mice that I raise myself. He has the most curious and laid back temperment I've ever seen in a baby, not nippy or easily spooked, and very interested in being handled and checking out people's faces with a flicking tongue. (first 2 pics were Jason's ad pics, last 2 are my crap-ola pics) :

This is my AWESOME co-dom reduced pattern male that I am in love with, and he too eats like a garbage disposal. He is extremely gentle and very sweet, even likes to have his cheeks and head stroked and NEVER rears back or balls up. His personality reminds me of my Spoon, who I dearly miss. Check out that faded head and blushing! (first pic is John's pic, last 2 are mine which do him no justice) :

And last but definitely not least, the incredible female albino that is on payment plan with Outback Reptiles, and that shall soon be coming home. I'm so impatient to get her that I could spontaneously combust. (both Josh's ad pics) :

So yep, that's what's been going on with me lately.

Welcome back. I missed what happened when it happened, but I did catch up on the story shortly thereafter and holy cow lady you went through hell on earth. Major kudos. Gorgeous new start you have there.

It was extremely traumatic, and I still have a very hard time looking at pictures of my snakes that are no longer here, particularly Spoon and Maggie. But I did what had to be done, I had to stop their suffering and make sure it didn't get out of my house and end up spreading elsewhere in the hobby. Being a new virus with no known history, no known pathogenic map, and no way to prevent it or stop it, it could have potentially devastated a lot of people who had even more to lose than I did. Or imagine if it got into a captive zoological population of endangered species or somehow out into a wild population. There was no way to know what it would do. I also learned my lesson, that simple separate room quarantine is not enough, because there are new threats out there that we aren't prepared for. I was attacked by some people in the hobby but also supported by many, and I do not regret being open about the whole thing. My consolation is that my story spread throughout the hobby and people learned from it. I've seen references to my experience brought up in discussions about proper quarantine and about animal flipping/importing, and if people prevent this from ever happening again, and prevent animals from suffering brutal, excrutiating deaths as many of mine did, then my sadness and their death did not happen in vain. I am moving on, but I will never forget.

Welcome Back Jen!

I am drooling over your new acquisitions. The Albino and co-Dom Reduced pattern male are specially gorgeous.

*It's not whether we fall, it's whether or not we get up and go forth BETTER than before... having learned the lessons that made us fall.

I followed your story closely, and I never forgot....again Welcome Back! :)

Thanks Deb. :)

It's gonna kill me waiting for that albino girl to grow up. Such a long horrible wait, so I hope the Ball Python Gods feel some pity for me. LOL! I'm soooo itching to see what happens between her and that male, wondering how reduced the babies will be. I forgot what this felt like. :ack2:

Tell ya one thing I remember fondly that came rushing back...the excitement of expecting a shipment. When my lesser and then my reduced male came, I almost couldn't sleep overnight. I was up waiting by the door by 10am, finger on the door buzzer waiting to press it. :D

Jen, we've never met (online or otherwise), but I read all about your tragedy after it happened. I'm sorry for your loss, but very glad to see you getting back into this hobby. Best of luck to you, and those great looking new animals you have!!

OMG!! I'm so so so very sorry!! I can see now why you are staring the way you did this time.

I have a room on the other side of my house with a single setup since I have only had 1 new snake at a time. and only 1 has been bought online( thank you fraggindragon! ) ..

Good to hear you are back and with a strong head VS these flipper kids!!

Show love for the living things instead of the $$ bills!!!!!

Be very careful with quarantine. Separate rooms don't always stop viruses -- it didn't stop the one that wiped out my animals. If something is airborne, and you're in a building with only one ventilation system...there's not much you can do.

I have a very long thread on the BOI that pretty much stayed active throughout the 7-8 months this all happened. There is a lot of information there about how everything started, what the symptoms were, what tests were done, what the vets discovered through a lot of lab work and testing, treatments we tried, overall losses, etc. There are some posts from some real A-holes that just decided to attack me and nip at my heels like rapid dogs despite how hard I was trying to deal with that situation. So if you read that thread, take those posts with a grain of salt. I ended up having to post pics of the piles of dead bodies after I froze everything to prove to those same jerks that I wasn't out trying to pull one over or sell things under the radar. BUT, I had more support and more love from people than I did negativity, so for that I am thankful. And that is pretty much the only reason I decided I would like to try again.

Jen, I kept up with your whole ordeal years ago via Myspace, and it literally broke my heart. I am so glad you are deciding to try to heal and slowly get back into it again. I know it is difficult but I am so proud of you and happy for you for giving it another go-around.

If you need a friend, even though I'm far away I'm always happy to listen or help where I can.

Congrats! :)

It has not been easy. I miss them all so much, and the thought of starting over still feels so overwhelming, especially considering how far I got, how much equipment I had, and then just lost it all in one fell swoop. I worked so hard to have everything that I had, put together the rare projects and rare localities of kings, raising the tiny babies to adults, rehabbing rescues to be healthy, fat, thriving 6-8 egg layers, and successfully hatching out clutches. It just makes me feel like vomiting when I think about it. Ask Anthony how I sobbed when I first walked into his snake building. Damn that was hard. But seeing the babies, the things that have developed since I left, the beautiful creations that he has made...made me smile for the first time in a long time. Having just a couple is a good start, and a way to break the ice without biting off too much and also not risking losing my butt since the market is so iffy right now. They make me happy.

I also became a little bit jaded, and really have NO patience for animal flippers, brokers, or scammers. If a broker does it the right way with proper quarantine, then OK -- but that is rarely the case. I've made it my mission not to let anyone get away with the :censored: that Damian Wyatt did, and not let this happen to anyone else.

Wow Jen, this is all pretty much new news to me and I'm sorry to hear about the BS you went through but I'm happy to hear you rebounded and decided to enjoy what you love. Those are some great looking animals to start off rebuilding your collection!!

All the best

Steve, how the heck did you miss all that?!? Brian Barcyk even brought it up on SnakeBytesTV, trying to bring awareness. It was a really crappy time in my life. For whatever reason, it was meant to be I guess.
