• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Do you think there are enough Reptile Shows?

IDK what u guys are talking about. The only shows I ever hear about around here is the NRBE. Other than that there are no shows local. Its really annoying cuz I need to get a cali king for my brothers first snake, and I dont wanna pay shipping on a snake thats only around 20-35 dollars. IMO we need more shows around here. Or atleast advertise the ones that are hidden in BFE
 
Yea, I know what your saying. I live in the middle os West Virginia and we only have on expo a year in my state to my knowledge. I have to travel 4 hours to cleveland or pittsburgh for a show, but those shows are every month, maybe just a little too much.
 
they should go more on the road instead of sitting in the same venue month after month, the should tour a certain region, kinda like a band on tour. That way all u have to do is wait a few months and then a show will come to town. Idk I guess what im saying is bands didnt get famous from playing in the same crappy bars they started in. It would be nice to atleast have three shows a year around here.
 
If your a buyer it seems there can never be too many, but as a seller there is already way too many.
 
Well, I think it really depends on where you live and whats around you to base an answer as to whether or not there are to many shows. I do agree with Matt, if you are a buyer, I guess there can never be enough. BUT.....in my area, the tri-state (Md, Va, Pa) there are way to many.

As a seller, the excesive amount of shows have almost at times become very taxing, boring, and lately not worth the effort. I have to also wonder how well animals take it when they are packed and repacked every 4-5 days for consecutive weekend shows.

Promoters in this area have become way to greedy, and feed off of all the attendees who come to the show and pay their admission. Anyone who sets up at shows on a regular basis, especially for the last 2-3 years should agree that sales are way down and for the most part the only ones making any real money are the promoters.

But it will never change. Sellers will always need to make that sale, and buyers are always looking to make their next big deal
 
Someone needs to have a show atleast every 60 days in the Hartford area of Ct. We have some huge, and beautiful venues here. The Expo center, The XL center, and the Science Center are all great for a show if someone would come set one up over here. Not to mention the lavish Hotels, such as the Hilton, and others that are here in town. We have venues, just need one of the guys who runs these shows to come book one. Tons of people around here have reptiles, and love them, so it would prove profitable.
 
I definitely think they should go on the road! I've only been to one about 12 years ago when I happened to be in FL. Since I'm in AR, however, there aren't any even close that I've seen. Would love to go to another now that I'm back in the hobby!!
 
New Mexico needs more shows, I only know of one in Los Coruses. I'm only into corns right now, but I want a king and I can't find any on-line breeders I like that deals with both and the all morphs I want. My husband wants to get into pythons when we have more room.

There's a reason NM doesn't have more shows. The laws there prohibit bringing animals into the state without permits. They are also very strict about private breeders selling herps insisting that they are a business and need to be licensed as such.

Really? I thought that only applied to biods and pythons, not colubrids. That's why its so hard to find breeders in this state. I had to resort to a pet store to get my snow and the owner was really tight lipped about where the snake came from. He would only say the snake was captive breed from within Albuquerque.

Almost every state has various animal organizations that conduct "swaps" on a regular basis and they basically allow anyone with anything to join and get vendor space at these events for a nominal fee. Once you join and start getting the newsletters you will also see announcements for additional similar events not listed as official club events that you can also attend. I like these because it is one-stop shop and sell. I sell my herps and get to find cheap feeder chicks, rabbits, and rodents for my snakes, as well as other useful items such as cages, shavings , etc. In addition to these, I also join local cagebird and aquarium clubs in my area which also hold sales and will sell vendor tables to almost anyone with any kind of pet. Between all those clubs, I can find a small animal swap somewhere in my state almost every weekend if I want. As a member, you can usually run free ads in their publications and websites and list what you plan to bring to the various swaps. You can also advertise the event as a "Pet Show" on Craigs list, listing birds, small mammals, reptiles , fish , whatever .
After all of that there are usually flea markets every weekend somewhere in every state. Many of these will allow neatly contained small animals, especially if they are outdoors. Research these through your states tourism department.
Join together with other animal groups and bring our diversity of species together to produce more interesting and diversified events that will develop reputations in their specific locality and attract interested buyers for all types of pets.
All it takes is researching the options in your state and then just doing it.
 
Not NEARLY enough in Northern California, speaking as a vendor. SoCal gets something like six good, big shows a year (SuperShows, NARBC, and I know I'm forgetting a couple.)

Up here we just have Sacramento in September and San Jose (a smaller, younger show) in June. Ideally, I'd like to be vending about 4-5 shows a year, but I don't have a lot of local options near me.
