In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Karma Abuse.

Shadera,

You are new here. It's just the way it has been in the past, and in the words of Saramago "if you forget the past your are doomed to repeat it'. People have been abusing the system and they were banned for this very same reason. There was additional point. What karma does is to rank individuals by their approval rating. If you agree with this, fine. The problem is that oftentimes this have meant that this approval was earned by demeaning others. Why? Because of human nature. There's always people who like to see other call people names: you are a liar, thief, etc. etc. There's when increased liability to the site comes from. They are not civil not because they are like this in their everyday life, they are because they get rewarded for doing it. As stated before, check who has complained about receiving bad karma and you will find the approval seekers. :yesnod:

She joined in 2008..how long before she's NOT new?

The rest of the post, I agree with.

Deborah,

What it was meant by this statement is that she has no recolection of the events that happen before she was here.

Heck, my recollection of things that happened last week is hazy.

Thanks for the clarification. Makes much more sense to me now.

How do you know that it results in good karma for them? :shrug01:

Speaking solely for myself, being one that's been around when the BOI was a little rougher, I've received MUCH more karma for spanking someone, then I have if I just made a rational post. :yesnod:

Isn't so far fetched that it is still somewhat that way.

Nooo, it's not still that way. Rich's changes have changed how Karma is viewed..it's more of a popularity symbol. It's given for anything and everything just so people can have the green dots.

And we have a bingo! The man in the corner, right there! You deserve karma for this post :yesnod:

The only difference Rich is that you didn't let that dictate what your subsequent posts were going to be. A "karma seeker" would have continued with the spanking while checking his/her karma frequently to make sure he/she had the desired effect on the audience, that is, receive more positive karma.

It's easy to determine when karma is used by a person as booster for power, ego, etc. Just check how much time elapsed since the person received negative karma and when he/she makes a comment about it in a particular thread. Was it weeks, days, hours, minutes? The shorter the time span, the more frequent this individual is monitoring it's karma.

I don't know that I wholly agree with that - I utilize my User CP page quite often, and that is where the karma is listed. Just because I see it doesn't mean I went there looking for it

I go there all the time to keep up with my subscribed threads. Easier than trying to remember them all and having to search.:ack2:

And that's fine because you are using it for that purpose. But when someone is replying back and forth and then says "Ah, BTW sos and so just gave me negative karma", then it becomes highly suspicious. Of course this is just my opinion.

:iagree:Thanks for the clarification. The way I was reading the posts before, it seemed to be implying that everyone that is in their CP must be checking karma.

btw: there's little arrows in there where you can close those boxes and then you can go into your CP without seeing your karma. But you are absolutely correct...the time lasp is a dead give away.

I never give negative karma. I either just respond in the thread or ignore whatever stupid comment it was. I think I may possibly have smacked someone once for a particularly egregious BOI post, but I'm not sure if I actually did or just wanted to.

I know Deb (at least ;)) disagrees with my use of positive karma but I look at it this way: When you press the karma button, you have to select "especially good post" or "especially bad post." If someone in Hell cracks me up when I'm having a rough day, heck yeah, I consider that an "especially good post." (I still LMAO when I think of Pavy's "Jesus in a speedboat" demotivational.) And if it encourages people to post more in other forums than the BOI (though I truly doubt that it does), so much the better. It's that simple for me: if it stands out as an "especially good post," I might give it karma. I also tend to view excessive spreading of negative karma by one individual as an indication of a negative person. 'Course, most folks with lots of red do seem to more than deserve it.

Most of my own karma (still all good, whew!) has come from to-the-point BOI posts in which I provided a valid point of view that had not yet been considered. Rare, I know, but sometimes it happens. LOL

Now to sit back and see what karma, if any, comes from this post! :dgrin:

:rofl::rofl: I am also guilty of giving a GK for a post that brightens my day.
