In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i realize it will never come to a hault. i guess i was just wondering what it will take for this thread to cease now, for a period of time.

im not saying whether it should or shouldnt, just wanna kinda get a true idea of what everyone wants, bottom line.

like, her to admit she lied and come clean about everything ??
say she will never breed again ??
say she will never advertise the remaining animals she does have ?
what the burm died of and when, etc?

im just trying to guage a one line, bottom line of what is wanted by her

She can SAY all of that, but with out PROOF, it is useless here and the speculation will continue.

seems to me, that with or without proof of all issues brought up regarding ashley, puts her in a bad light, for a real long time. so to her, it probably doesnt matter whether or not she provides proof or not regarding the issue brought forth

"Reticguy76", you seem to like retics, right?

Well, I live in Florida. And I cannot keep retics, burms, Eunectes, etc, because of people like Ashely. Why? Because the government has sought to regulate our hobby FOR us because we have demonstrated that we are either unable to, or unwilling to, self regulate. We allow people to own snakes who should have no right to own even a spider. And we allow people to produce giant snakes from multiple in-line breedings, generating loads of animals with no homes and compromised immune systems. And for what? The glory of a "morph"?

You see, it's people like Ashley who provide the fodder for the media and the HSUS in their campaign to see every reptile, amphibian and house cat gone.

We need to, as a hobby, put our foot down and draw the line demarcating what we are willing to accept from our peers and what we will not tolerate. For this is not the hobby it was 10 or 20 years ago-- We are all skating on thin ice here.

And, to bring my tirade back on topic, I'd like to ask if you have actually read Dr. Jacobson's paper. Or *any* of his papers on the disease. You do know that there are other people researching and publishing in other countries, right?

And I'd like to follow up with an additional question to satiate my curiosity: how would you define a "fact" in science?

Garrett... :NoNo: We can't debate this further in the thread. We JUST got it back on topic. Ask Mr. Carver in a PM. I would like to know, too, but now's not the time and place.

i am not gonna go back to that area of the thread, publically (and get yelled at, hahaha, j/k). but seriously, its not a topic for this thread, about my thoughts and feelings on ibd.

Ryan,

Your "thoughts and beliefs" are irrelevant to IBD as is anyone else who is not researching this disease in a controlled setting with certification and qualifications to do so.

This thread will not cease until Ashley's collection is destroyed and donated to Dr. Jacobson's research or kept only as pets, which, with her, cannot be guaranteed. There is no way to clear an animal of IBD at this point. Once you have one exposure, you have to assume, at best, that a quarter of the collection is infected as well, but which quarter is impossible to tell until they stop being asymtomatic and the virus becomes active. One thing I think a lot of people fail to realize is that her husband is in the Army. He could very well get PCS'd (have his duty station moved) overseas. Guess what they are not going to spend tens of thousands of dollars shipping over there with them? Even if they did? She would be spreading her potentially disease ridden collection overseas away from the states and wouldn't that be a lovely scenario of chaos.

Irresponsible, immature, spontaneous people like Ashley should not be keeping these animals because she has no ability to commit to them in the proper manner. This has been proven, several times over at this point. Anyone not seeing that is in a state of denial.

Getting an answer about Phoenix is a step in the right direction, as is seeing the necropsy reports in full. Her failure to provide these speaks volumes towards the assumptions that have inevitably been made. She is hiding things. She is hiding them because she knows she screwed up beyond repair and, really? She does not care. This is evident in all the other forums she is constantly active on. Posting pics of her animals as if nothing has happened. Still talking about selling animals, even having them on hold for people for when "her collection is cleared of IBD". It, as of right now, cannot be cleared. Period. If you read Dr. Jacobson's papers, you can see that.

Yes, there are many things not known about the virus, but that is exactly why she needs to not be a fool and lock down her collection or, at the very least, donate some of them to his research. If she really gave two cents worth a god:censored:, that is exactly what she would do. However, she will not. She will just keep dodging questions and backing into a corner until there is no where else to go.

In time, it will catch up to her. When that happens? This thread will hault. Until then? No, it won't. If you have an issue with that, develop a "belief" that it does not exist and all will be right for you.

Simple, yeah?

I just have a quick question I'd like to pose, Dr.Jacobson's article will not load properly for me for some reason (I blame comcast). It kind of has to do with the thread so try not to get too mad at me for asking it...

If someone had the money to get their entire collection tested, three times a year, for 3 years, what are the chances that not a single test would come back positive if IBD were present. In Ashley's case, and we know she won't do this nor would someone who didn't REALLY adore their collection, but it is a hypothetical that I'm curious about. That's approximately 210 tests a year, 630 in total. Could all of them really come back with a false negative with that many tests done?

Don't jump down my throat or yell and kick and scream, I am honest to god curious if this disease is that elusive. Statistically, you'd think at least one of those 630 tests would come back positive if IBD was present.

Who knows.

It depends on which tissues are sampled. How they are sampled. How they are stained. And how they are analyzed. Boas may be completely and utterly asymptomatic/ subclinical.

Is it a retrovirus? Not likely. At least the retroviral particles-when tested-failed Koch's Postulates of etiology.

The point is this: We don't know what it is. We don't know how it's spread. All that we really know is that affected snakes all show plagues of a specific protein (the "inclusion bodies") in the 68 kilodalton range that may or may not contain c-type retroviral particles.

And so, as any research in this field has recommended, all snakes should be QTed for 6 months to a year. Boas and pythons should never be kept together. And that biopsies of all new animals (liver and esophageal tonsils, specifically) should be performed in addition to the standard QT.

Her collection should completely locked-down. And anyone with boids should avoid contact with her collection at all possible. This may be a prion disease, and if so, no amount of lysol, IPA, soap or permethrin will decontaminate. Only time will tell regarding her pythons, and as far as I'm concerned, ever boa of hers must be considered positive, and indefinitely so.

HYPOTHETICALLY: Yes, it's possible that all 630 tests could come back with a false negative. It's enormously improbably, but the potential does exist.

Look at it this way. The odds of getting "heads" when you flip a quarter are 50/50. Most people think that means every other flip will yield "heads".

However, if you flip that coin 1,000 times, you could get "heads" the first 500 times, and tails the next 500. Would it ever happen that way? Probably not, but it could.

I agree 100%.

I read through about half of this nightmare, and I just wanted to say I feel really terrible for all parties involved. It's a horrible experience and I truly wish none of it had happened to any of you.

I wanted to point out two things, for those of you, ANY of you, dealing with Mite infestations, I have never myself had one but I stumbled across this website years ago and have since passed on the information to 10+ people who could not get rid of mites, and this worked within a day. I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but if you haven't tried it, please do. It seems like it is on the low-end of chemical toxins and might be the "lesser of evils" when dealing with chemicals to get rid of snake mites.

http://www.albertareptilesociety.org/caresheets/nix.pdf

I also found this link, but don't know anything much about it, but it seems like another natural way to combat snake mites:

http://www.biconet.com/biocontrol/hypoaspis.html

Secondly, if we have all learned anything from this mess it's that we still have SO MUCH to learn about IBD. It is an extremely scary, horrible thing, and more research is desperately needed to understand it. I am a specialized laboratory tech trained in dealing with biopsies and cancer diagnostics, and the first thing I did when I moved to the Gainesville, FL, area was offer my help to Dr. Jacobsen for IBD research. He still knows how to get me if he needs me for any kind of histopathological diagnostic help, and I would happily give him any time he needed for this cause.

Even if it's $5, every little bit we can send to him for this cause will help. With more research, it won't be so hard to afford the testing, and maybe one day it won't be as devastating as it is now. My heart goes out to Ashley, Rachel, and everyone else, regardless of all the other drama and whose fault is whose, because this is such a horrible situation.

While this is a terrible disease, and those affected by it will be going through some hard times, I still have ZERO respect for a person who KNOWINGLY exposed countless collections to a very serious disease and has the audacity to lie about it. Ashley needs no sympathy. None.

She has also LIED to Dr. Jacobson about animals dying after the initial diagonsis of IBD.
Her goal is to start selling again in a year and she's skewing information and handing it to him because she thinks that will work in her favor.

She is a terrible person. I feel bad for her animals. She does not deserve them.

Exactly. She has made a mockery out of the hobby. And she makes a mockery out of any forum which allows her to even post. I find it insulting to even read her name at this point.

The saddest part about all of this, is that Ashley is the not the first and will not be the last in a long line of dishonest people who own these animals for ALL the wrong reasons making our hobby look like a big joke.

If anything can be learned of this, it is that we MUST be more proactive, even if it can be construed as aggressive about exposing these people. The government is breathing down our necks, threatening to take away our livelihoods and strip us of what we love. We have people like Ashley spreading disease and dishonesty in our own community.

Where do we draw the line? I know I'm not going to let some other forum's TOS stop me from doing the unpopular thing and calling that person out. Especially a person as detrimental as this. We NEED to start policing ourselves, and sticking up for what's right instead of sweeping it under the rug and pretend it isn't happening. The "out of sight, out of mind" mentality is a huge part of what is killing us from the inside out.
