In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Well this all started on facebook. He was doing an auction and i devcided to put in a 10 dollar bid, well we all know people where gonna top that, so my notifications started going crazy. So i asked him if i could remove my bid because my phone was going crazy. he then begun to get smart with me and asked me age, i told him i was 16 and asked why. He then got really rude with me and insisted that i didnt have parents permission, when i did. He then said that my parents had to call in and state that it was ok for me to bid. So i then told him i was not gonna bid anymore then, He then told me that i was just a little kid and he didnt have time for me. Keep in mind i have my own credit card and money. So i told him that. Well the thing is he was really rude with me, and kept calling me a little kid. And i will now never do business with him.:shootfoot

In Georgia the age of majority is 18.

I can see how he would be concerned with a 16 year old bidding, because generally a 16 year old in Georgia can void contracts.

Remember this is a business forum and I can totally see his point of view.
So he asked for a call from your parents which would be totally appropriate under these circumstances.

I think had you seen his point of view and acted in a mature way and maybe just had your parents call him, everything would have been fine. People make their livelihoods this way, they have a right to assurance of being paid under such circumstances.

There are a lot of smart younger people on this board and I think that most would have been honored to talk to Ben Siegel. With a little flexibility and maturity, trying to see another's point of view, you might have formed a friendship that would have helped you immensely in the reptile world.

It wasnt the fact that he told me to have my parents call. It was the point he kept calling me a bratty kid. And monti i am not a kid. I take my pride in reptiles seriously. Lucille as i said it wasnt the fact that he wanted my parents to call. but even before that he was rude VERY rude. And my mom would have gladly called.

Ben is a busy man and I know sometimes his replies can be pretty short, direct and to the point but I've never seen him be rude. Was this a conversation on FB, or via text/email? If so, can you post it here?

And have you let Ben know of this thread?

Maybe so.... but apparently he doesn't have time to work with ADULT's either. I contacted him in the past because he had an ad up wanting wholesale snakes. He asked me what I wanted for the babies and I told him what I had gotten in the past for wholesale from another wholesaler. He then informed me he doesn't pay that much. I asked how much he would be willing to pay and I NEVER got a response back from him.

Guess he think's his name will carry him... cause his customer service sure wont. :shrug01:

just post a quick reply on this and let it drop. I asked this kid to have his parents call me prior to bidding and he got an attitude. Beleive his exact words were its not worth it to go through all that to bid. I said fine, dont bid. Then he made a snide little post so I blocked him. Entire story--done.

Southern wolf--I have to apoligize if I did not follow up on a second email---we have been EXTREMELELY busy the last month or so and I have really been doing all I can to keep up on emails. I know some are falling by the wayside and I apologize. Please feel free to call tommorow with any animals for sale. We are buying! We just hired on another full timer to help with our work load and we hope that gets things running a bit smoother!

sorry--reread my post--did not mean to come across mean as in let it drop--I meant to write I am just going to post that and then I will let it drop. Just reread it and it sounded off.

Do yourself a favor go be a kid!
IDK who you are but that your gonna jump in and post this crap shows that you yourself are immature so I would call you a kid. This is suppose to be a fun hobby. Maybe this 16 year old didn't tell the full story but to jump in like that was dumb on your part. Ben was in the right for wanting to check with the parents before letting him bid if that is the truth. But the rest of you don't have to say it like of yeah he's right because you're a kid.

It states plainly on his auctions: "If you are under 18 please ask permission prior to bidding."

Even though you may have had permission from your parents, Ben doesn't know that to be true unless your parents called and talked to him. Sorry it came to this, but I feel Ben is right to have asked to speak to them.

I think it was late last year when I contacted you. At the time I was looking for another wholesaler to add to my sources. I had one that I had done business with for a couple of years but he didn't always need babies so I was looking for other options to add into the mix.

Shortly after 'no contact' from you... I had someone else contact me about the 20 lot I was advertising and then my regular wholesaler took the rest of them about a month or two later.

Sorry... but I'm not gonna beg someone to buy my snakes... especially at wholesale prices. So when you wouldn't answer my question on how much you would pay for the lot... then I wrote you off as 'gets no business'

ok-good on ya then! no problem--you probably contacted us in the middle of hatching season when we are getting 20 emails a day with colubrid offers--im guessing it was colubrids? Sometimes the number of colubrid offers during that time of the year can be daunting. I am sure many other wholesalers can attest. BUT HEY! I was just trying to write you a quick apology! But I guess thats not what you were looking for?

I appreciate the sentiment Ben... I really do.

But no.. .that's not what I was looking for. I wasn't looking for an apology or anything like that when I posted. I was just relaying my experience, and my thought process at the time since I had replied to your wanted ad that you had posted on KS.

You are correct... it was colubirds. Corns and Kings specifically at that time.

I have asked parents to call me for persons under 18 an wouldn't hesitate at all for every single one. Even though you may have your own $ if the animal is going
Into your parents house, I want to make sure the animal is going to be welcomed by the whole family. I have done business before will Ben and wouldn't hesitate to do more. I feel they are top notch. Every one gets busy and I feel we all have to have patience when it comes to business dealings. We don't know what's going On with them and they with us. For me involving any minors parents is a requirement to be on the safe side. Legal complications can arise, as well as a danger to the animal.

Just have to jump in here. I just bought at Caiman Lizard off Ben this last month and i was not an easy buyer, but he worked really hard to make it work. There were probably at lest 15emails back and forth, he held the lizard i wanted for two weeks to when i could except shipping, sent updates when i sent an email, all rather quickly. We talked on the phone about the transaction and it all went really smooth. I would never hesitate to buy form him again.

On his website he does clearly state no sales to minors and it really is a great policy. I got into the hobby when i was 13 and breed banded geckos and leos. My mom would buy the lizards for me and i would pay her the cash i had. It was safer for the seller to do so. In most states a minor is not responsible for the actions that their pet might do, so it falls on the adult and somtimes if an animals is sold to a minor the dealer can be held resposible as well. I see where Bens policy comes from.

I am sorry...getting your "feelings" hurt does not constitute a bad guy thread.Or contributing to it.I have never done business with Ben Siegel but the guy has a stellar reputation and I would not hesitate to do business with him.
Just my .02
