In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I saw in another thread somewhere about female deserts are known to either throw slugs or their offspring don't live that long. Does anyone have any experience with this? Oh and Harold thanks for setting me straight in the classifieds, I wasn't trying to do any harm:D

The information I've seen is the females don't usually get too big unless mixed with another morph, that's why they usually can't carry eggs/the eggs don't last long! A lot of forums I'm on have been begging for pictures of adult female deserts on eggs..haven't seen one posted yet!

I'd heard similar things myself...and was recently asking a few people. From what I was told, the females tend to grow and mature slowly, which leads to frustration and comments of this nature. (Kind of like the stories from several years ago about albinos being poor feeders - which several people I know have experienced.) I was directed toward a couple of people that supposedly HAVE breeding female deserts, but since I wasn't planning on going in that direction I didn't pursue it.
If there is truth to it, it may be some time before it is confirmed - the people that are invested in deserts are probably trying to recoup their funds before laying things out in black and white.

(and I know you were just trying to find out answers....it's just that the discussion forums are better suited to some things. Answers can come from any number of directions; and the threads won't be deleted, so the information will be here to help others in the future.)

I've heard the rumors that they are smaller. They do tend to grow slower and stay slightly smaller than other females, some people speculate this might be because the Desert morph originated from a "dwarf" population of Ball Pythons. However, the same person who suggested this also posted some pictures of some female Deserts, between 1300g-1900g if I do remember correctly. This breeder is Robyn Markland.

The post and pictures are on a forum that cannot be named here, so just do a Google search for the thread title Desert females at 1750+ grams and it should come up.

Hope this helps!

That forum cannot be named here because Rich does not want to send traffic that way, and the above directions may as well be a link.

Sorry Abby, I am not trying to Mod here.
(IMO, the whole Fauna -vs- The BLB:censored: fued is a childish "gang / pack war.")

However, If members are allowed post step by step directions to send the traffic over to that site anyway, then Rich may as well take a deep breath and allow their name to be spoken again.

Let's not derail this topic with that issue....
Right, I wouldn't want to cloud the issue with facts.
......................................................................................................................................................

As far as we know, there has not been enough female Deserts (that have been well cared for and raised properly,) that have been bred to confirm this rumor to be true or false.

Nobody working with the Desert gene wants to believe the rumor is true at this point.
Some are hoping to prove it false and already have some female Deserts that seem to be growing at a normal or above average rate.
Others are trying to bail out and sell their female Deserts.

Even if there are enough pairings this season to confirm it one way or the other, those looking at the project from the outside may not know the truth for some time.

After all, are Caramel Albino females Poor / Non producers ?

I think I will wait until more info is avaiable on them before I fork over a large amount of cash for one. I wouldn't want to spend all that money for a snake and then down the road not even be able to sell it if some of this stuff holds true.

I have one female Desert, shes only a 2010 but she about 500 grams and eating and growing just like the rest of my 2010's, if that changes I will post something here.

if i were to buy one, i'd buy a male... unless it was the hottest desert i've ever seen:D

I definitely wanted a male but got her in trade, and she is the hottest Desert (thats not a combo) I have ever seen. I really hope a bunch of people get eggs from their Desert females this year so I dont have to worry about it.:D

I invested in a desert male a couple of years ago and am not worried at all. This project is still young and while there has only been a couple female deserts to lay so far (according to PE), I am even more optimistic that a super could be produced as soon as this year. Personally, I think that more breedings to large females may increase the odds of a females producing at typical safe weights in the future.

This year a leucistic was produced when three genes were combined. PE produced a tiger mojave, so there is still some awesome stuff with this project to come I'm sure.

Plus, there hasn't been a combo produced that looks ugly! If the desert becomes codominant and female deserts produce, look out!

deserts hands down to me are the BEST co-dom out in recent times... the combos are KILLER , even hets for pied & clown look amazing !! i think this project is way young ... especially when there are not many females up to size yet ... i will get in on the desert project next year !!!

I think the desert pin is a very nice looking snake would love to have one. My only problem is how fast they drop in price. I bought fires a few years back paid a lot for them now I see males for $250. Hurts a little.

Yea, the prices on everything have dropped really fast. Too much competition does that. And now it seems like everyone wants to be a breeders. I remember the year before last, bumblebees were about $800, last year I had trouble selling them for $400.

your so right about that, just about every one and their mother wants to breed to make it rich. I do it cause I just love reptiles. I saw a dersert pin male think it was like 4k and don't think it would be all bad of a move. I gave the wife a one year promise no new snake's other then in trade or one's I have bred on my own. So it's up in september and I think I really might make that move and get a desert pin male and I'm thinking the 2011 males will come down in price a tad.
