In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am not here to discuss which mite killer is the best, which is the safest, blah blah blah blah.

I am here to discuss Black Knight roach killer.

About 12-14 months ago...maybe longer.
I acquired a "perfect" animal. This animal introduced me to my first war with mites. I have never seen m ites before so I did tremendous research. Armed with this "research" I figured I could fight any mite there was.

Long Story short............I lost

But then came Black Knight. I was tired of soaking the snakes and bleaching and rinsing the cages with hot scalding water. I was tired of spraying the snakes with stuff that does not work.
So I tried Black Knight. A quick spray in the cage on the animal (Light spray).
Two days later I did another quick spray on the animal. (Very light spray).
And a Repeat four additional days later (Even lighter spray)

And boom I am done. No more mites since then. I now have an expensive can of bug spray that only gets used when I acquire a new animal.

Some of you may ask why the other two sprays......
I did it to make sure I kill the newly hatched mite eggs (if there were some)

Well, better to have that expensive can of bug spray just sitting there IN CASE you need it, rather than trying to find a can of that expensive bug spray when you DO NEED it.

I also have had a good experience with Black Knight. I used it to treat a minor infestation from animals that were -said to be, and appeared to be- mite free until the eggs hatched a few weeks later.

I now also use Black Knight on incoming animals as a preventative measure in the chance that they carry mites in any stage of life. So far, I have not seen any ill affects from it, with either my snakes, nor other pets, though I do take precautions for both myself and the mammals in my home.

BK is the only product that actually works IMO.

Just make sure you do not spray it on a rough green snake. I lost mine because he used to drink the droplets of water on his body when I misted him. When I sprayed BK on him, yep, he drank it. Went into convulsions and died a few days later. That had to be the worst experience I ever had with herps, knowing that I inadvertantly killed the snake.

BK works great, just make sure your animals don't injest any.

Now, Reprile Relief.....well.....save your money.

Do not use it on feeder snakes

I used it on baby corns that where intented to be fed to a baby king cobra. I waited a week or so before I fed . 3 days after I fed the king she was dead. She was doing awsome up until that point. It is the ony thing I could attribute it to.
Just my thoughts.............

I TRADED FOR A GROUP OF HATCHLING COLUBRIDS( OH, YA DID I MENTION HEALTHY AND MITE FREE? LOL) I FOUND A FEW OF THE CRAWLIES AND CALLED UP ROBYN@PRO EXOTICS. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT THINGS IN THE PAST,AND THIS TIME I RESEARCHED IT AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION BLACK KNIGHT WAS THE WAY TO GO. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM.GREAT STUFF! AND NOW I TOO HAVE A VERY EXPENSIVE CAN OF"BUG SPRAY" JUST SITTING THERE. FEELS GOOD!

I would have to agree, I had taken in a couple of MITE FREE snakes, and what do you know a couple days later, there are all these little creepy black things crawling all over the cages.
In comes BLACK KNIGHT and out goes the MITES.
I love this stuff, and have several cans on hand, as we also do rescue work with reptiles, and you all know how bad some of those can be.

Thanks

As an chemical analyst in the pharmaceautical industry I am very aware of all products active ingredients whether it involves a bottle of shampoo, food, pesticides, or whatever. When I had an animal come in with mites I checked out Black Knight and Proventamite. Each product was way overpriced from $18-$20/can. I wrote down the active ingredients in each and drove about a quarter of a mile to the nearest WalMart and bought a similar product for about three dollars. The active ingredient "permthrin" was 0.25% which is exactly half the level found in one of the other products. It works just as effectively and is actually SAFER because it's less concentrated. I spray the animal and enclosure lightly and immediately wash it off with dishwashing detergent. I've never even had to treat an animal twice when done properly. Save yourself some money.

Does anyone have comments, warnings, etc., about this method? I found mites on the ball python I bought from FIRE. My computer's motherboard and power supply fried last weekend ($200+ to replace), and as a result, I'm a pretty broke.
PS - where in walmart would I look for this product (name?)
Thanks.

I believe Nix makes a lice bedding spray with that active ingredient. Walmart also makes one under the name Equate. It should be in the same aisle as the bandaids (can't tell where I work, can you?) I wish I would have known that before I bought Proventamite, but I'm still on my original can, so I guess it's not that bad a deal. It works so well that it would be worth more.
But am I to understand that black knight and proventamite have the same active ingredient? 'Cause I've seen some pretty heated arguements over which one is better. That would be like arguing over brown eggs vs. white eggs.

Permethrin is one of the most common grocery store pesticides on the market. It is Toxic to - fish, birds and Reptiles.. ask for or look up the MSDS (material Safety Data Sheet) for this or any other Permethrin product:yesnod:

Money,Lawyers and a twisted legal system ran them out of town
the winner of the pissing match is now known as ProventAmite
They didn't win as big as their greedy hopes envisioned once the jazzed up Reptile Relief type product made its rounds.

Successful eradication of reptile mites is now found at your local WalMarts for a fraction of the cost and 3 X the performance of the Provent elixir.

Do a Search on many of the reptile forums for
Equate* Lice Bedding spray
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Lice-Treatment-Bedding-Spray-5-oz/10324555

Many now use this with great results

where can you get black knight ive searched and searched and i cant find BK any where? even on image search, nothing??

Also, Permethrin is the active ingredient in my Black Flag backyard fogger(mosquito killer) at 0.200%.
Does this mean that I can actually use that?????? IDK???
Thanks,
John

Just wanted to ad. Do not use any of these products on Eastern hognose. It is highly toxic to them. I can not say for sure with other species of hogs but Easterns will go into convulsions and die.

No one should ever use any of these products directly on the snake, period! If you read the instructions on Provent-A-Mite, it specifically says to treat the enclosure. Permethrin can be obtained in many other brands/forms which are just as effective, but do not have the aerosol delivery method which means they need longer to dry. For treating a snake directly, there are several options. Reptile Relief and Olive Oil both do a good job of slipping the mites right off. Frontline spray is recommended by vets, but you must apply it by wiping them down with a sprayed paper towel to prevent overdose. Treating both the enclosure, the snake, and the surrounding area is the only sure fire way to treat the infestation.

Just throwing this in here. I use Goodnight Bedbug spray from Home Depot. It works great, and I can put my snake back into the enclosure right after spraying. I think it costs like 8 bucks for a huge can.
