    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Thermostats....

Ok can someone break down the water bottle thing for me?? The fridge I picked up has a tub in the bottom to keep water in ( Nick you seen it ) will this work the same way as water bottle's??

Yup, Clay indicated that he filled it with water to maintain humidity (and I assume it will help sustain temps). If you have room though, I would shove a water bottle wherever you can because they will be easier to reuse the water for hydrating the substrate and the eggs after they pip.

The way I understand it is that the water bottles heat up and help the incubator maintain a constant temp so the thermostat doesn't have to work as hard? Not sure if that's correct but it works!

:iagree: When you open the door the heat escapes but the bottles take a lot longer to cool, making it easier for the thermostat to bring the temps back up.

I would stick with the water bottles. I tried using a tub of water and it evaporates and gets condensation all over the inside of the incubator. The water bottles help maintain temps and your moistened substrate inside you egg tubs will deliver your humidity.

Great product

I see that the OP has already made a decision, but I thought I'd add my recommendation for the Vivarium Electronics line of thermostats. I bought one of the VE-300's from Rich at Reptile Basics right after they came out and I have nothing but good things to say.

The price is comparable to a Helix, but without having to purchase a timer or photocell as the VE-300 has a built-in night drop. The probe is more than twice as long on the VE and both the probe and fuse are easily replaced without having to open the case. The VE also has a 700 watt capacity, but to be honest, I've never needed more than the 500 watts that a Helix provides. Not trying to sound like a commercial here, but this is a product that I definitely stand behind.
