In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Anyone use these?

I use dawn dish soap for my water dishes, and 91% alcohol for tub cleaning. I wanted to try something that I could use on both, because the alcohol isnt very effective on the water dishes, (IMO) and I dont want to leave soap residue on the tubs.

Plus I wanted to make sure everything gets killed, bacteria, parasites/and their eggs, viruses.

Im looking for opinions and suggestions and all posts are welcome! Thx guys.

Chlorhexidine gluconate isn't the miracle solution most people think it is. It works well, when it is used properly...unfortunately, a lot of people don't use it in a manner that is consistent with the results they want. There are numerous organisms that Chlorhexidine gluconate isn't particularly effective against. Chlorhexidine diacetate is better, but carries more risks.
91% alcohol is craziness - just for the record.

How so:confused:

Odor.
There is no single perfect answer. It really is a two step process...clean, then disinfect.

So its the fumes that are a bother? Or are u talking about odor left behind (like dirty bedding/poo odor after cleaning)? Would u recommend something else?

Thx for the help, I appreciate it.

hey robert, this stuff is awesome and works great,, no odor that will kill ur reptiles or film left like some other cleaners, i bought two gallons of it which will last a very long time,, i bought a large spray bottle and put about two ounces in it or till water turms blue is fine,,also alot of vet offices use this product across the states,, so just go buy a small portion and try it and see if it is for you,,,, good luck mark

Chlorhexidine gluconate is good for what it is good for...familiarize yourself with what it does (and does not do), and be realistic in your expectations.
Learn the correct way to use it, and use it accordingly (that includes changing the solution when appropriate).

In my quest for the miracle cleaner for my BPs cages/tubs, I think that I pretty much ran the gamut of cleaning solutions out there. :ack2: As Harald said "It's a two step process": clean and then leave the Chlorhexidine in the tub (or spray) and let it sit for 5 minutes for best results.

I agree that "Chlorhexidine diacetate is better, but carries more risks." The reason I agree is that the directions show that it's more so risky for humans to use as it is stronger and can potentially cause damage if used incorrectly.

I actually started using a combination of Chlorhexidine to disinfect the tubs after cleaning and Bioshield on the dishes and in the tubs of the adult animals.

In my years of having the animals, I have not (to this date) had any issues with scale rot, or sickness in any of my animals

Most of the ones I know of use Chlorhexidine diacetate, not C. gluconate. Different products, different results.

It has been my replacement for bleach. I use it when I scrub the water bowls, hides, and enclosures. Then I rinse and mist it down and let it sit.

Depending on how much you have to use, a gallon will last a very long time. I think it recommends only a couple teaspoons per gallon of water so it goes a long way. I also have a jar with a lid that I use to sanitize utensils overnight.

Most users would be wasting a lot if they prepared it by the gallon....once diluted, its shelf life is 1 week (assuming they use tap water)

I have a gallon bottle of chlorhexidine diacetate I got on clearance from Tractor Supply. I store it in a dark cool place. Does it have a shelf life un-diluted in the gallon bottle?

Check the date on the bottle (yes, it does).
Most places that I've seen with "clearance" type prices on Chlorhexidine are trying to move older product before the expiration date.
