• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

The pages are loading slower than hell, Boss!!

I can get ANY other site too load faster than Fauna...including those with very high amounts of pics.

Can ya help us out??

If it happens at a particular time of day, please make note of that detail. Maybe some process is running at that particular time that I can get relocated to a different time slot.

Okay-it just happened again.

I posted a reply to a question on the gecko forum, and hit the submit button, and it just kept loading...for nearly an hour...and didn't take me back to the thread.

I only knew it had posted by opening my control panel and checking.

Not that it matters, because it's happened twice-on two different threads, but here are the threads it happened on.

I'm on dial-up, so I don't get instantaneous loading, but ANY other site loads normally...and doesn't take forever.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!

Dial-up? :ack2:

Well, I think this site is pretty intense for a dial-up connection. With all the graphics showing up, I would imagine the file size trying to squeeze through a narrow band connection is the problem. It could simply be a case of a couple of very large graphics images showing up in advertising that could make a noticeable difference with a slow connection. The slower the connection the BIGGER the impact will be.

I'll be quite honest about it, I did not design nor plan on this site to be compatible with dial-up connections, and instead have targeted broadband as being the most likely majority of the audience. To try to accommodate those slower connections would require some major changes here, including a major drop in revenue from advertising. Sorry, but that just is not likely to happen.

I can understand that.

The odd thing is, it's only been doing this for about 3 days!!

Before that, it loaded normally!

The past few days I have periodically been unable to load pages for a few moments. I forget the exact details, but Google Chrome said something along the lines of "no data received from host". This happens here and on cornsnakes.com, usually at the same time. If it happens again I'll pay more attention to the error message and the time of day.

Oh, and I'm on fiber-optic internet, so it has nothing whatsoever to do with speed. It seems like for some brief moments the server just stops sending information.

It's loading normally for me now...and it's making me paranoid.

What's gonna screw up next?? Know what I mean??

Hard to say.... :shrug01: It may be that the server is running some intensive processes at the time. I always try to move backup procedures into the wee hours of the morning, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way.

Matter of fact, it doesn't even have to really be anything on my server at all. Could be any number of things taking place at the data center housing the server and/or their own internal network.

Yeah-I understand.

I figured others might be having issues, and I thought maybe you might know what the problem is...if it's something at your end.

If you don't know the wheel is squeaking, you can't fix it, right?

Oh, I agree. I tend to spend enough time here that I will likely catch any problem that extends through an hour or three in duration. But short term glitches might very well escape my notice. And quite honestly, there is very little that can be done about the short term "brown outs" simply because the server techs quite likely won't see the problem neither. But if I have an exact time frame there is a possibility that the logs will show something they can sink their teeth into.

Everything was working fine for a few days. It just slowed down again on me for the first time since I posted. It's about 2:25pm CST. Fauna pages are loading but very, very slowly. Cornsnakes.com is also being slow and just timed out for me with this message:

No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

It's the same error I received a few days ago from both websites. My internet speed is still fast on other websites.

Yeah, I saw that too. Seems to be running fine, now, though. I contact the server admin people and asked them to look into it. Server load itself was minimal, so I don't think it was the server itself. I didn't see any odd processes running (backup, etc.) that could have caused this internally.

I'm sure they'll come back with a "no problem found" reply....

Well, got a reply and they said the data center suffered a "hiccup" in their internal network. Should be resolved now. Hopefully that was what was causing the earlier problems here and it is now resolved.

Many thanks, Grand Pooh-bah!!

Glad it wasn't my imagination!!

It never hurts to take a bat to the engine to let it know who's boss!!

Okay-well...maybe it does, but you get my point!
