mites are not a part of the hobby, they are a bad part of the hobby.
whether you have one snake, fifty snakes, or 300 snakes and regardless if you bring stuff in and out constantly, proper quarantine should always be taken. ive had wc's come in to my place, and i have never had a mite outbreak. i have had mites on 2 animals, both were rescue boas that i treated and then adopted out. they were in a whole separate establishment than my collection.
mites do happen (as ticks in dogs, or fleas on cats), the difference is, how you deal with it and if you sell animals that have/still have mites
