In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Luis Torres, Murray Utah (Bad Guy)

Im glad to see that he did eventually cough up a little bit of the debt, but its sort of a slap in the face to do so this long after the fact with no explanation or apology... I gotta say I think you (Rich) did what was right by you at the time and although I understand the constructive criticism from other members I think that no one should really blame you for doing that. We all make decisions based on our understanding of the relationships we have at the time and hindsight is always 20/20. I'm sure you took it as a lesson learned. what Luis did to you was cold, even here in the arctic we're not that cold... (lol Alaskan humor sorry). And you should do however you feel is right on your own website about it. And even though we all use this resource. This is after all 'your house'.

thank you

Being a new user to the fauna site i greatly appreciate being forewarned. It is now 2010,hopefully by now he has either paid his debt or suffered loss of business and resources as a direct result of this post. The sad reality is that he is not alone in this world, and in my opinion the good are vastly outnumbered in this business by guys like him. Sorry you found one the hard way.

My standard reply to good, long-time friends who are asking for money in one form or another: smile and politely tell them their friendship is valued too much to take the chance on a possibly unpaid debt ruining it.
I also think Rich was backed into the corner my this Luis cat. After the clutch was produced, there was little chance for Rich to back out unless he could find someone else who would be willing to purchase those particular animals. My advice would be to require a $500 non-refundable deposit before even placing the mommy and daddy together for their evening of snake-making. After that is secured, the balance is required before shipment. If he only has part of that balance, he receives nothing until the bill is paid in full. Now who's court is the ball in?
One other thing I would have done is immediately start trying to sell those animals as soon as he only coughed up partial payment, and tell him I don't even trust my mother, especially MY mother, when it comes to business dealings. I can just about guarantee you would be at the very top of his priorities when the shoe is on the other foot - he's paid a non-refundable deposit and has nothing to show for it until he has completed his end of the deal.

My momma always said "smell the chocolates first to make sure there isn't a hidden turd".

Early this week I was QUITE surprised to find an envelope in my post office box containing a money order from Luis Torres in the amount of the remainder (I think, I don't recall any longer...) that he owed me from those animals I sent him. I honestly never expected to hear from Luis again. So I now consider this matter to be closed and over with.

Thanks Luis, but I honestly regret losing your friendship.

I am glad that you finally got the remainder of the money owed to you.
How long did it take exactly? :(

Rick unfortunately this happens all the time even outside of the reptile community. It is my policy to no longer let anything leave my possession without being paid for first! Even if it is a good friend, you never actually know who is your friend!

Rich shipped the clutch in July of 2005, I believe. Luis had already made one down payment of $200.00 sometime between May and July of 2005, but still owed Rich $960.00.

If you read the thread from the beginning you can see the time frame.
