    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Orange Bellies?

What can you guys tell me about Orange Bellies? I've hear two different things
1) They are to be considered normals and the trait is not genetic and doesn't provide anything special to the offspring
2) They are like yellow bellies, and are genetic, and they do create interesting colors and patterns in offspring.

Also, what are the distinguishing features of an orange belly besides the obvious? I think I might have one but I'm not sure. Once I get my camera back up and running I'll post pics.

Any info you have on this trait is appreciated!

Option 1 is incorrect, unless the "orangebelly" in question just had the tag applied randomly.

Orange bellies are Ben Siegel's line of yellowbelly. As that statement implies, they behave like YBs in combos, produce ivories (the OB claim to fame is that they can produce graphites - look them up). Appearancewise, they are similar to YBs, with somewhat different coloration.
 
Supposedly it's a random mutation with the orange bellies though and hasn't been proven. I think they produce the ultra ivory too but is also random. I could be wrong about both but that's how I've understood them. They could have proven it by now because I haven't kept up with it for a long time.
 
I don't know about the ultra ivories, but I believe the graphite is somewhat random (though they have been produced regularly)

There's talk that the graphite makes the ultra ivory when bred to a yellowbelly, I guess it makes sense to some degree since the het red axanthic genetics operate the same way except het red axanthic is proven genetic. If you breed a red axanthic to anything the resulting het red axanthic offsprings would be much brighter and better patterned than offsprings resulting from a het red axanthic. Maybe if anyone knows Ben very well they can let him know this thread is out there and he can clear up the mystery?

Its my understanding from the little research I did when purchasing her is yb x ob makes graphite ivories. Ob x ob makes the ultra ivories. I haven't looked into more but next year ill be doing yb x ob, see if I get some graphites. im doing bumblebellies this season. I wanna see if there's any difference with doing bumblebellies with an ob so ill do doing that the following season.

I have a Female Orange Belly, a Female Graphite Ivory, and an Ultra Ivory Male. They both just had their first lock ups this week, exciting! Orange Bellies are genetic, and produce Ivory, Ultra Ivory, and Graphites when bred to either a yellowbelly or orangebelly. The amount of speckling on graphites is similar to the pied gene or the calico gene, it varies. Mine is probably considered a medium speckled. The ratio of throwing graphites, Ultras, Ivories, etc. in a clutch is not fully understood as far as I know. But I think that is what makes it so exciting, it's new. It's unpredictable, it's exciting. I can't wait until I have eggs!

I don't have a regular Adult Ivory to compare next to my Ultra Ivory Adult male. I would love to see the comparison myself.

The graphite is one of those morphs that gets spectacular with age /size! So Patience is a must, this was hard for me at first but as she grew more and more speckles started showing up! =) The bigger they get, the better they look!

I need to take updated pictures of them but they are a really hard snake to photograph!! I am going to try to take some today!

Pictures of Scarlet (graphite) It's kinda funny she is COVERED in speckles on her neck and they get more spread out as they go down her body. She only has a couple on the lower portion of her body. You cannot use a flash when taking pictures of her! So they are kind of dark.

I forgot how pretty that girl was! How big is she now? Like an idiot, I ended up selling all the babies that I produced, AND I traded off the parents so please keep me in mind when you get to breed her!! ;)

I will! :D. She's around 700g. She went on a little hunger strike on me for a bit but is eating like a piggy now.

I paid $350 for my little girl from Nicole Schaan (sp?) and she is an awesome beast. She took a little time to get converted to FT but is a total pig as well as a looker.

Oh, the pics are hers, not mine. Also I've never seen a YB in person so I'm not sure I could tell them apart. It seems to me OBs are a little more golden/orange colored but they have as much variety, it seems as yellow bellies. Got my fingers crossed for a graphite, though I'm probably going for honeybees first!
 
Here's an OB to add to the mix. Love this girl. She's a 2011 hatchling on f/t rats.
