Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Bruce Cowan - AKA - Nyteshade

waited till she shed before taking her to the vet.

So it is possible that the snake did not have an RI on receipt but developed it after it got there? The snake was at your house for 3 days before you looked at it, right?

Now I had a busy weekend planned and was off on a hunting trip for the weekend. So I never really checked out the reptile myself at this time. I did take a quick peek and it appeared ok. After my trip that Sunday or Monday I can't remember which day off the top of my head. Well I had a chance to really look at the snake. The snake was now in my care for only 2 or 3 days and I had now noticed it has very bad respiratory infection and its mouth was a-jar open. I had then emailed the seller. At first he seemed concerned and I had thought all should be cool with the outcome. I took the Ball to the vet and was given a dose of reality.
I was given a 90% death rate.

This just doesn't add up to me. You looked at the snake, thought it was fine, left for a hunting trip, and when you got back you say it had a very bad respiratory infection. But you waited to take it to the vet and by that time you say the vet said it had a 90% chance of dying.
Clearly you were part of this problem if you failed to get your snake to the vet in a timely manner.
I've seen snakes with RIs and they are not a pretty sight. Yet you saw this snake and said it was OK, and left for your hunting trip.
It is not outside the realm of possibility that you received a healthy snake and it went south in your care. Because of the circumstances and the elapsed time, I don't think the seller should be responsible for this vet bill or any kind of refund.
Had you noticed something was amiss and taken it in within a day or two of receiving it, things might be different.

Did you ALSO drop out of med. school? How do you KNOW what shape this snake was in?

IF it was getting ready to shed its nostrils may well have been plugged by skin. You remember what that's like from years ago when YOU kept snakes, right? If the nostrils are plugged by skin, prior to shed as is not uncommon, there would be no reason to think it had an RI. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that the snake was sick upon receipt and due to the stress of shipping got sicker while it was put away properly, in quarantine with extra heat, while the new owner left it be.

It's NOT up to YOU to decide anything about any deal. You value your opinions and that's fine, but you do not know what you're talking about here.

Maybe in your finite wisdom you should let these two figure it out without the help you are erroneously offering.

What the OP says may well be true and if so the seller should be on the hook here.

I had noticed the issue after the trip which was 2 days after I had got the snake. In 2 days I have yet to ever see such a bad case of RI or Mouth issues. Yes in case you do not know this but the snake could have been making noises due to shed. There fore I figured I would wait till after shed to re-check out to see if she still shows signs of RI & other problems. You have never heard of bumping heat and trying to knock out the RI? If the snake has a slight case some times this will do the trick. After shed and I noticed the problem was still there then off to the vet for meds.
As to the other problems "wonky" yes kinda like a spider but different in that there is no spinning or wobble but has the same weird mannerisms. I would be happy at some point to do a small video so you can see and you will also see the a-jared mouth as well. Trust me when I say this snake is not right..

I think that I get what Lucille is getting at. She can correct me if I am wrong...but an R.I that has an animal at death's door in a few days would be very noticeable in the beginning of the three days.

I was given a 90% death rate. Now to get that correct the vet said the snake has a 10% chance to live.

Hey Bruce,
So I didn’t get back to you yesterday because I was on an early morning hunting trip. But that Enchi Girl you sent me is showing signs of RI. Or something wrong with her. She has had her mouth open breathing here for the past 2 days. So were you treating for RI or something? How long have you had this snake? What did you feed it last? Give me some input please. Was the snake open mouth breathing with you and how long?
Thank you

In the email, where you started off "soft" you are saying only that
"She has had her mouth open breathing *here* for the past TWO days."
An R.I that has an animal at death's door has more signs than that. It's not descriptive enough from the beginning to clue me that it was so sick when received that the short time that you had it, had it at death's door.

I see the seller asked you for a video of the snake's behavior, did you record one?

I am shocked that anyone would be doubting any of this. The BOI really does like to stir up trouble.

I have personally met the Adams family, and the care they provide for their animals is IMMACULATE. I have NO doubt in my mind that they have done EVERYTHING to help this animal recover.

Nope because we were debating on the mouth being open. He was saying that it was "yawning". I know when a snake adjusts its jaw. This was no adjustment. So I did not feel a video of what he thought was a yawn was needed.
The only reason the vet figured the snake was so bad was due to all of the problems combined. This is why I felt they gave me such a grim outlook. I have never had to deal with a baby snake having RI so I was a bit concerned myself. All those shots I figured this little girl was not going to make it.
I can make a video and have no problems with adding this so to show current condition.
She is eating well actually.

Again the RI was just 1 problem with the snake. Lets not forget the mouth issue & again I will take full credit for not posting this sooner , not really looking at the snake the day I got her(just 2 days later). He seemed rather nice at first and I thought we had something cool going. on the phone helping him with shipping and all he did well. But as things took a turn for the worse he decided to go the other route. Maybe its just me but If I sold a sick snake(I never would) I would do the right thing and at least offer up vet costs upon proof of illness.

You have had every chance to end this by stepping up and giving back the money and I send you back the sick snake. You had refused. Not a great way to start out being a "big breeder" like you claimed your going to be. Hell you can't even follow simple quarantine procedures. In short, If any buyer had any issues with any purchase they would step up and take care of their customer & the animal. You have done neither. Shame on you. I have finished getting all the info I need to start posting this in the BOI. Trust me when I say you will not have a leg to stand on.
Good luck with your future in the reptile business.
Looks like you will need it with your reputation your starting.

I would have been taking pictures along the way. It's unfortunate, that you didn't see the need to. Pictures of the animal in good health NOW would hardly support your story.

I'm no going to take sides, but tell your friend that the BOI will only work if it's impartial. If I am ever on here, I am not expecting nor do I want anyone that knows me to get on here and start spouting against the BOI or asking why no one believes me.

A true story defends itself with enough evidence that it's indisputable. Good luck.

Gotta love this nana-nana-boo-boo attitude. Classic attitude of someone who doesn't give a flip about anyone but themselves and needs to talk themselves up with a bunch of bravado that has about .01% basis in reality.

Ted admitted his faults in this transaction and laid them out on the table clearly so anyone reading this thread can take them into consideration when deciding whether or not to deal with this Nyteshade clown. I don't see where Ted has done anything wrong in this thread. He's given his warning about a guy who may be very risky to do business with...he's answering everyone's questions and cooperating with requests for more and more documentation and evidence.

Ted's openness and actions here are world's apart from Bruce Cowan and the difference between the two is clear. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with Ted and I wouldn't touch Nyteshade with a 20 foot pole, no matter how good the deal.

Have fun giving 10% of your profits away to someone else because you can't move your own animals. :ack2:

I totally understand. But a video of this snake would show that it is far from perfect. I will go ahead and get one up here in the next day. Sorry not sooner but I have a life outside of reptiles and I plan on living it right at this time. :D Going out to play in the snow with the family.

ms. broadus and ms. hollander, do either of you have any experience, personally, with advanced RI infections? If so, how many and with what species?

I ask only to determine the amount of credibility to grant your diagnosis of a snake you've never seen.

How many times are you going to say this? Normally it's the scammers that use that line but I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish with it.

Thanks but I'd rather him answer. I just don't see the need to insinuate that the rest of us don't have a life like he does.

Lets not try to make up stuff now.. holy crap.. I am just trying to say basically what Rick was saying. I am not going to live on here answering all the questions as soon as they pop up. We as a family love to do this but not a full time job nor do we have a shop. Sorry if this may upset you.

The pictures on the ad where you purchased the animal are bothering me...I can't seem to find any indications (in the picture) that it's the correct morph. I looked and found this one http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294949 can you tell me if your animal at least looks like this (in this ad picture) in person?

You are certain it's an Enchi?

**just a thought that is plaguing me.

Banded normal?

I was thinking the same thing it appears to be a nice banded normal. Did the OP realize he bought an expensive normal and is trying to cover his tracks?
