Got a lot of time on your hands Ritchie? You're even picking on a one-time poster LOL. I am currently contacting all legislators in my state opposing this legislation. I own berms as well as bps. I don't like that USARK is compromising at all, it may or may not effect me this time but what "compromises" will USARK make the next time this comes up or the time after that? Compromise is good, sometimes, but someone will always pay the price.

Nevermind. I am tired. You people have convinced yourselves and you keep saying the same thing over and over. Then when asked to corroborate your story, you deflect and whine.

The oppsotion is complaining about USARK. To me that is the best measure of USARKS effectiveness. If USARK was not effective, then why would they even bother complaining.

if you look at usark with their model legislation and you look how they responded to the ban. keep in mind they claimed a 5 out or 9 victory. the months leading up to this ban look at what usark and their supporters were saying. they were pushing the idea in the industry for compromise. crutchfield was on urban jungle telling everyone its inevitable and so on. no usark didnt stop the ban out right and i really didnt think they were going to simply for the fact of how hard it was being pushed. i think usark put into play their compromising strategy to get retics and boas off the list and thought that would be enough for the industry. for everyone that is wondering why usark is being so silent. usark never expected the back lash they got for claiming a 5 out of 9 victory, and they have no clue as to what their next move is. thats why it took them 3 or 4 days to say something. and all they said was they are having some attorneys look into it. dont you think they should have had a plan set up and ready to go for this. they thought they had sold everyone on the to win you have to give a little. the day the ban was announced andrew wyatt was sending out text to some of the big name breeders saying we won. im not going to state names here. i dont wish to bring them in to a possible argument. that kind of thinking from andrew wyatt just gos to show how out of touch he really is with the reptile industry. if you have a problem with how usark is doing things you need to voice your opinion.

First of all, don't feed the trolls. If all the time spent on these 41 pages of bickering was put into formulating well thought out, coherent, rational arguments to congress and the general public, the world would be a better place.

But, here's my take, and will be my only post here:
Rodney, if you think you have a better strategy for promoting and defending our hobby then by all means go for it, but don't sit around and detract from the people who are actually working hard at it. I am 100% positive that a 'no regulation' approach to this will never fly. Nothing in our country is exempt from laws, that's just how it is. As many others have already said, if we don't work With the government and make regulations for ourselves, they'll be sure do it for us, and you can bet it won't work out how you want it to. So suck up your personal vendettas, give up your pipe dreams that we are going to remain exempt from law making, and start working on some coherent rational reasons why and how you should be allowed to keep the animals you want to keep.

Research some ways that you can express, with facts, how relatively insignificant the threat of these snakes is, as invasive species and as dangerous species, and make those points well known. Express the benefits that keeping these species can provide; the research, education, and for the sheer ability to generate interest in nature and reptiles. We can show that keeping these animals is an enjoyable, useful, and harmless hobby, not some fringe taboo practice for troublemakers and careless people, and That's how we gain public support and get the laws we want. Sitting around and talking about how it's not fair and how the big bad government wants to control us is not accomplishing anything at all.

As far as contating legislators in your state. Are you refferring to the ban by FWS and Department of Interior? Or are you referring to another ban that is forthcoming in Ohio? Those are two separate things. The ban referrencing the Lacey Act is done with. You can call anyone you want and it will no longer make a difference at this point.

The people circulating the new petitions around have also failed to grasp this. It'd be funny if it wasn't such a waste of time and effort. Petitions aren't going to do jack..............why is that so hard to grasp?

The only remedy now os a Federal Law Suit in which the evidence that led to the ban is challenged and successfully dismissed.

Rodney - USARK isn't scamming anyone. I take exception to some of their claims like "USARK and Reptile Nation Save 5 of 9 Species - Huzzah!" or the blatant misstatement about the delta smelt - but they are actually using intelligence to fight the waves of legislation coming down the pipe.

You can spend your time drawing lines in the sand and saying it's our way or the highway - then you can enjoy the trip down the highway. The sad fact is that pre-emptive model legislation is the only way to pre-empt total bans.

You can start 100 threads pointing out that it should be a fight to the death, but you really have no idea the financial and political power of the lobbies lined up against you. The fight will indeed be to the death - yours.

You can scream and pull out your thinning hair in reaction to everything that's wrong with the efforts to restrict or set limits on exotic ownership but in the end, it's nothing but ineffective annoying noise. That 18-wheeler is bearing down on your ass, you can yell at it then have it run your over, or you can can find ways to divert it.

The Model Legislation that USARK is promoting may not be your cup of tea, but regardless of what you think, it's the only alternative to the methodical state by state bans heading your way.

In the meantime, anyone else who reads this, for God's sake - enough with the petitions regarding the recent Lacey Act Amendments. It is not going to do anything.

Focus on what needs to be done and don't react for the sake of reacting.

Lawsuits aren't cheap...and when one side has what is essentially "unlimited resources", you can bet that it is going to cost the opposition dearly (if they run out of money, it can be Game Over)

I wasnt saying it was a scam, just felt like one. Thats my point, why should we have to pay a toll to overturn a flawed law to begin with. I feel its just another way the government can get more money out of us. But judges gotta eat too, so I guess its a double edged blade either way u look at it.
