In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info BHB

I personally like Brian, he is a very polite and responsible breeder in this business. I couldnt imagine how hectic it must be to treat a collection of the size of his, but I have to agree with the crowd with the reputation that Brian has using a knock off treatment for your collections is unnaceptable. Plus this is not a problem that is recent, I bought a pinstripe from Brian last year that came with mites (She is doing well now, 2k grams and breeding). Perhaps through us Brian will correct this mistake, and change his process for treating mites.

It will take a lot of work treating a collection the size of his, but I would suggest the investment because it would be worth spending a few thousands in a mass bundle of P.A.M to treat the entire collection that to keep wasting money on cheaper solutions that is obviously not working. Will help rebuild the negative image that he is getting too.

Brian is very responsible and I see him doing the right thing soon, Poor Chewy going to be worked!

Also thank you everyone who has discussed the product P.A.M, I did not know of it and I am already getting a box for just incase! Never hurts to be prepared!!!

Thanks for the info Leah, I think you are being extremely pleasant regarding the situation.

Mites do suck and they can spread like weeds (even to seperate rooms of your house). Fortunatly, I have not seen a mite in over 3 years, I would never want to see one again. (Took me 3 weeks and about 30 hours of excess labor cleaning and changing out tubs daily).

I can't see how anyone including BHB could NOT take mites as a very serious issue.

1. This is not the first BOI Post about BHB sending out snakes with Mites recently.

2. Brian admitted to having an explosion of mites at his facility recently.

3. Brian also admitted to using a sub-par treatment for mites from Walmart in order to save some money.

4. You apparently recieved your animals that were carring eggs or the mites were in their early stages, obviously his (Walmart) treatment most not have worked.

Bottom line- If you know you have a problem, you don't send out additional animals until you are 110% positive you have corrected the problem. (I don't care if that means not sending out animals for weeks or months) you just don't do it.

Did he really only offer you $5 for a can of Walmart crap to help resolve your situation? :shrug01:

I do feel for you and hope you get the mites eliminated in quick order.

I sure hope BHB gets their act cleaned up soon. I know they are large scale breeders but a few more situations like this made public may cause some long-term damage.

Good reps can take years to obtain and only minutes to destroy!

Excellent post Jason!

Sorry Snakemansam.....I thought PAM was referring to the spray vegetable
oil called Pam! "Back in the Day"......way back when there was no such
product such as Provent-A-Mite, many folks used vegetable oil on their snakes when they got mites...it was one of the fixes then. Guess that shows my age huh??? We used crisco oil, or cattle insecticide mixed with water....a bunch of methods were tried. Now it is sooo easy with Provent-A- Mite. One spritz without the snake in the cage....wait 10 minutes and put your snake back in cage. VOILA! No more mites. I would not be without it!

I hope this is not Off-Topic but..

The time I had a bad infestation of mites, I actually used virgin Olive Olive Oil directly on the snakes and washed it off about 20 minutes later with mild soap and water (Dawn). I then used BK II (Black Knight) I believe I found it at the Daytona Expo in 2008 from LLL. It was around $20-$25 a can. Used as directed, it eliminated my problem. I also use the BK II as a preventative measure for any new animal that enters my facility (regardless if even my best friend produced it).

I spray the aspen bedding down (lightly- 3 second burst), let it air out and dry, then add the animal and water bowl.

For those that have posted: "Mites are part of this hobby, you just have to deal with them".....I can assure you that if proper preventative steps are taken, Mites will never be an issue for any of you ever again.

further discussion of mite treatments should be taken to the discussion forums

This thread needs to stay focused on BHB

I just wanted to update. The mites are 100% gone, all are doing very well and seem genuinely happy as much as a snake can be. I used PAM to treat the enclosures and soaked them every day for about a week and I haven't seen a mite since. I'll continue re-treating with PAM as a preventative.

Glad to hear you solved the problem.

Did BHB provide the PAM or compensate for the price in the end?

Did they ever follow up after recommending NIX to ensure the problem was solved or needed further assistance?

In the end, how much did they help solve the problem they created?

Thanks. I think the answers are obvious but it's good to know how these things ended and what they did to help.
