    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

No, the gator was not "out on display", he was trying to sell me one, and whether the kid was 15 or 20 is really a non issue, but nice try...Dufus...
 
jim, just because people are not agreeing with you doesnt mean you need to insult them. Why dont you be the mature one give advice if no one takes it then walk away. Not sit around and mock others for questining your proof or lack there of.

If it's not an issue, why bring his age up in the first place? Just because he doesn't look to have any experience doesn't mean he doesn't have any. That's you assuming again.

You're assuming that some "15 year old zit-faced kid" was attempting to sell American Alligators at the Kalamazoo Reptile Show, in MI. He could have been in his 20's. Why does his age matter?

You insulted him by degrading his skin issue, why would it matter?

You got defensive when you weren't patted on the back for this thread.

Justin said that the "kid" isn't always at the front "hocking" gators, which mean that the show promoters aren't always "hocking" gators onto impulse buyers.

William said that he's never seen gators for sale, but that there is one in a display tank in the front.

What have I missed, Jim?

Because if there's anything, I apologize and I'll re-read the thread again, but doubt I'll come up with a different conclusion about you or this thread.
 
I don't think many have really missed the point, though some have chosen to target things that should be irrelevant which seemed to be focal points in your initial post. Nobody is arguing that having a person at the entrance pushing sales of cheap alligators - without benefit of serious education regarding their care, growth, and housing requirements - is a good thing. Unfortunately, that basic message is somewhat overridden by your characterization of the person doing the selling...at least in terms of how people are responding.

I understand your response to the sight, it isn't all that dissimilar to a response I had when I witnessed a clearly clueless teen - who had purchased a cobra earlier in the day - later returning to ask if he needed to buy a hook or something. IMO, there is too much regulation already; and I HATE the government (at any level) dictating what type of animals I can keep....but I also dislike a lot of what goes on at shows. For every responsible vendor that promotes education, and is picky about to whom he sells certain types of animals, there are others that lead with their money hand. If cash is placed in said hand, an animal is handed over with the other - sometimes at the expense of responsible discussion and accurate details.

I'm sure we can all acknowledge the dangers of bad press and injuries related to such things, but the point people here were making is that comments about the age of the seller and his acne probably detracted from your intended goal. How about inviting the Collison's here to discuss the situation you witnessed? (of course, if the "zit faced 15 yr old boy" was their son, you may have already started on the wrong foot - but a less antagonistic approach might yield some positive results.) At the very least, we would hear their side of the story & where they stand on the matter.

The Collisons have seen this, and decided their best move is to do nothing.

But, I doubt they will have ANYONE hocking baby American Alligators at the door, in the near future.

Does your Mother know you're on her computer?

OK I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you are a complete idiot [ I know ...I know dropping myself down to his level]....what we really DON'T need is complete sensationalist look at me idiots like you in this hobby.......you got more attention to YOU than the issue that you brought up.....Most people that even give a shred of compassion about the hobby would for sure go at it a different way than how you did....yeah bring up something like that on a public forum instead of taking the bull by the horns and dealing with the situation directly at hand....

Pushing would be like the guy at a baseball game selling hotdogs, peanuts and pop corn and beer. I'm pretty sure the young gentleman wasn't screaming " ALIGATORS GET YOUR ALIGATORS HERE!!" Did you stop and talk to them and or educate them,or just keep on walking? Instead of starting this thread you should of done some educating. Instead you strarted this thread.:/
