So, I was checking out the little nublit spurs on Pauly D and was wondering how difficult it was to sex BPs visually. Realized Snooki's sex wasn't double checked so pulled her out...

those have got to be the longest pointy spurs I've seen in a while.. it's a man baby!

if this isn't a male spur then I would be very surprised. Do you agree? Snooki is a boy? Does this mean Snooki needs a new name?

So now I frantically have to check J-wow, little tiny round nublit spurs, there is something there but hard to see. So, looks like female right?

Here's some more pics of her, she didn't want to hold still at all! Even though she's getting darker on top it seems like her yellow keeps getting brighter. I think she's pretty keen.

Using spurs to sex BP's is unreliable. Best way is to pop or probe.

I have some females with bigger spurs then my boys, and, unless boys are able to lay eggs now, those were for sure girls.

oh really? I'm used to boas where if there's a sharp pointy spur - 95% of the time it's a male.

I have never felt comfortable popping, I have probes but would have to talk someone into coming over to help as I've only tried probing once.

Does the 'feel the bb's' method work on Ball Pythons?

Agree with the others...spurs don't mean anything as far as sexing with BPs goes.

I will pop & probe all my BPs once they are big enough. Perhaps my Jedi skills aren't that great, but I hesitate to probe a snake as small as Snooki, don't want to hurt the insides with too fine of probes... just me.

Popping or probing are the ways to go with ball pythons. I personally prefer to pop, it pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

I have successfully popped a snake as small as 20 grams...its nerve racking (my hands shook so bad trying to be gentle lol) and if you don't trust yourself I wouldn't suggest it. I would practice on adults first.

thanks for the feedback! I'm glad to hear there's a chance Snooki may still be female after all. I'll see if I can get someone at my reptile society to show me how to properly pop or if nothing else, get her probed in about a year when she's bigger.
