In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Liam won my pastel female ball python in auction last night at 8pm,instructions state very clearly payment options. He has not tried contacting me after i sent him a pm and wrote on the auction saying he has 24 hours to pay. Here is the link...http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312768

I just want to give others a heads up as he does have a recent join date.
thanks
brendon

Gotta agree with Cindy on that. Ive been following the auctions to see how they are going. GREAT potential but i believe the people who auction the products will need to be prepared for more situations like this. Maybe a section in the Auction section of deadbeats who win and dont go thru with the buy? Maybe a penalty from a MOD if proven by seller or buyer of wrong doing?

It will be up to whoever runs their own auction as to the ethical nature of how they do it, as well as the manner in which members who participate by bidding do so. I really don't want to set up a whole new category of infractions centered about just the auctions.

I think the auction area was set up by request. I don't think the site is going to do a lot of monitoring, there are certain perennial problems with auctions such as non paying bidders, and I believe the auction area was set up with the caveat that sellers had to be prepared to deal with those problems themselves(although I'm sure that BOI threads such as this one are perfectly appropriate).

Yup...well said Lucille. I do hope they work out though. Pros and cons....pros and cons. Brendon...just run another auction? Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that the member didn't pay. Maybe you could offer the second highest bidder the option to purchase for that price?

I was really happy to see the auction section posted- I think it has a lot of potential. * could be wrong, but I think there is the potential for deadbeat buyers no matter what format something is listed for sale on. I'm sure many of us have had people say the payment is on its way through CL, ebay, regular classifieds, etc. and it never arrives.

I was surprised and happy that I won the BCI gal from Matt- she already ate for me and is just gorgeous. I hope the auction section sticks around. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I will not honor bids from a member that does not fufill the obligations of an auction.

I had the same issue with a different bidder. No contact, no nothing. I am becoming less and less a fan of auction sites.

So I have few things to state about this and I'm going to use my timezone in this so I don't get confused.

If we took your post that he won at
04-25-2012, 06:45 PM (that's my time)

Liam is the winner please send payment
[email protected]

You started this thread at
04-26-2012, 05:48 PM (my time)
That was less than 24 hrs when you started this thread.

First bad point for you.

Next, your auction stated
"AUCTION ENDS SUNDAY APRIL 29 AT 8PM EASTERN TIME"

You changed more than midway thru the auction. Maybe he only read it when you had the other date for 5 days then changed it.

2nd bad point for you. When you run a auction stick to what you post and don't go changing things up on bidders. Just my opinion.

This could very well be your fault and not his. Don't know but is plausible.

Then again maybe he is just a deadbeat bidder... I do think you should have gave him at least the 24 hours from the post you told him he had 24 hours before you started this thread.

Good luck on future auctions.

Is the BOI going to have a seperate section for deadbeat bidders?

Dave

Is there really a need? Why isnt the normal BOI good enough hehe

and I agree that changing an ending date in the middle of the auction is kinda a no no in the bidding world.

It's unfair when someone is about to win, to increase the amount of time of the auction, therefore ruining their winning unless they want to spend MORE. I personally would start to ignore an auction that practiced that move. It makes it seem like you just want to drag the bidding out until it stops going higher, and THEN you will be happy to end the auction. It comes off very greedy.

Either way, dude should have followed through since he won the auction. I have a feeling sellers will have to find way to work around things like that.

I can see where I should have gone with my initial gut reaction to disable editing of all posts in the auction section. Otherwise it is too easy for people to say this changed or that changed in the middle of the auction. People doing the auction can move the goal posts after a bidder has already kicked the ball, which really isn't fair to the bidders. And on the other hand, a bidder can simply go back and edit his or her bid at will, including just removing the bid entirely by editing it out. No, I think it will be best if I just disable editing completely there. Too much potential for problems otherwise.

So now I guess I'll get people emailing me about why they cannot edit their auctions?

Hey Big Meanie,

I think if you are going to make a go at this auction thing, you might want to see how it goes for awhile, and if it is derailing because of dead beat bidders, reconsider making a section for reporting them. I do not think the BOI needs to be clogged up with bad guy threads about dead beat bidders, but that is just me. I would like to know, and be able to cancel a bid by a known dead beat, prior to the auction ending. I also think an auction starter should be able to cancel a bid by someone with less than 10 posts too, if there is a gut feeling. This is from recent personal experience.

Dave

Dave,

If each seller runs his/her own auction, couldn't they simply list the parameters when they listed the auction? If you, for instance, said when you listed that only those with at least 50 posts could bid, then you can disregard below 50 bidders. I don't know that we need site wide or auction wide rules, the seller can call his auction the way he/she wants?

Has this buyer actually paid for the auction yet? Has it been resolved? I am curious because this buyer has been in contact with several other sellers (just check his/her recent posts) and I'm wondering if this person is just an overzealous window shopper.

I've already seen people post high bids, and remove them a short time later when they weren't surpassed.
