In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

My mom is convinced that any snake bigger than her wrist could kill her. She does not care what I say about how very few snake species could kill and eat her. Does anybody have any tips on how to convince her to not be afraid of being killed and eaten by snakes larger than her wrist?

Thanks,
Connor

Are we talking a snake as big in girth as her wrist, or one that would fit around like a bracelet? I assume you are trying to convince her to let you have a large snake. Any chance she'd attend a reptile show? Probably not. How about a pet store? Find a store and ask to hold a small corn snake. See if she'll simply touch it, and progress from there. If she's truly frightened of large snakes, your life will be a whole lot more pleasant if you honor her feelings and wait until you move out. If she's willing to let you have something small, chances are she'll lose a lot of her fears over time with a small one in the house.

We are talking about snakes that have a girth the size of her wrist. I have a adult male Corn Snake and a juvenile Children's Python, and she will touch and hold both. She has been to numerous reptile stores with me and I have held large snakes, but she will not touch them. We will be attending a show around my birthday, so maybe if she sees very large snakes and how harmless they are, her fear will go away.

Thanks for the help,

Connor

I am not trying to start anything with you, but please don't say that "very large snakes are harmless". That sentence makes my whole body cringe in fear of what "could" happen. Large constrictors are not to be taken lightly. Yeah, that 15 foot Albino Burm looks pretty and docile and slugglish but believe me, one mistake on your part and without help around, you are done. What is that saying? Any snake over 10 feet should be handled by two people? I can't remember if it is 10 or 8. Large constrictors are very good at what they do. I don't think a regular guy say 6 feet tall and 200 pounds would have a chance against a 12 foot burm if the situation got out of hand.

Just trying to be helpful.

I should have phrased that differently. I completely understand your concern. I phrased that more in terms of very large for my mom, which is more in the six to seven foot range. I agree that very large snakes are dangerous and need to be treated with respect. I understand that one false move could lead to death. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I should have been more clear on what i meant.

atleast your mother is a touch on the realistic side.....mine swears by the bible that as long as i have snakes in my home the devil walks freely in my domain. I told her...lady...the devil moved in a LONG LONG time ago. Shes a Greek orthodox religious freak.

As much as I might want to bitch about my own upbringing, at least I didn't have those particular problems. Thankfully, my home was completely devoid of religion. And, since my dad used to keep exotics, I was pretty much free to get whatever I wanted, as long as I could afford to pay for it on my own. I was somewhere around 15 when I got my first burm.

lucky man. I had my entire collection in my bedroom of my OWN apartment behind locked doors. She swore she would dump a gallon of bleach in each tank when she got a chance.

Family ties are just as easily severed as any others. If someone can't respect the fact that your interactions with your reptiles might add some measure of happiness to an otherwise cold, harsh world; to hell with them.
Pro Tip: Don't let whack-jobs, religious or not, have unrestricted access to your home.

Yeah, I got the whole devil speech before i got my first snake as a kid...I look back at it now and have a good laugh with my mom about it. Back in the 90's when I was breeding burms I told my mom that I sold my soul to the devil and he paid me well.

Yup. Those would have been my last words. And now my girl is Muslim and my Brazilian rainbow bit her on the toe. I can't win but I still have my snakes

i agree with you i meant to say......but my girl still to this day swears a year later she still has puncture holes......from a baby brazilian. I just say...nothing.
