• Responding to email notices you receive.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

can advertisements be blocked?

Is there a setting somewhere to block the banners and advertisements? I assume that it's impossible as that helps pay for the site but they are killing my data plan. Juz thought I would ask.

I don't get the Google ads on my phone - only the banner ads that are paid for by members. Since those are actually a part of the site, I don't think there is a way to block them.

I use a program called Ad Muncher...pretty sure there are other ad blocking programs as well. Works well for me

The only thing I see is "Your ad could be here" and "SerpenCo" under that on the right side....nothing else shows up =)

It's been a while since I blocked ads, and I think at that time I specifically blocked Google ads.
I just switched browsers on my phone, due to recurrent posting issues (only on this site)...Google ads are back. I tried looking for an ad blocking app; but the only one that claimed to block anything other than ads embedded in other apps was for rooted phones only. (I don't know what that means, but apparently I don't have one, lol - the app wouldn't work...said it couldn't find the root.)

Hmm, well tell me now, why exactly do you THINK I am running ads here on this site?

Well, sure, I can remove the ads for you all. And I might just as well shut down FaunaClassifieds while I am at it because it's no longer going to be financially viable for me to run it....

Is that what you all want?

I am in the same boat. I haven't the foggiest what rooted means.

Lol. I understand the concept but was wondering if there was an option to block some. I have 33 mb a day and I used 86 mb today. I may just have to up my data...

Seriously, would you pay to advertise here if all of the members could block your paid advertising at will via a function I provide for them to do that?

I'm a bit of a cell phone nut, and know all about rooting. I'm willing to make myself available for consultation at very reasonable prices. Cash up front. :D

He's got you there, Kevin.

Well don't let the secret out!

Seriously though, it's the stupid ads that are streaming in that are eaing my data. The stationary ads are okay but the ones that keep changing are the culprits.( I think)

I'll give you a quarter....

Since I wouldn't care to have any kind of extended interactions with you, I'll give you a freebie. I'm assuming you're on a smartphone. Try Opera Mini Browser. Their servers compress website data before it's sent, which can cut down up to 90% of what bandwidth a normal browser would eat up to transmit the same page.

I liked Opera Mini...until I started having consistent issues with posts and PMs not going through. It gets really annoying to put time into a full response, then fight with the phone for 5 minutes trying to get it submitted...only to have it not go through and have to start over again.

Yeah, I had my issues with Opera. Nothing quite that bad, but somewhat irritating at times. I have "unlimited" data (which means 2.5GB before they throttle me down) and I make it a point to use every last damn KB of that. I've switched to Dolphin Browser since I have no need of conserving bandwidth. You get a good bit more functionality when you have a more feature-heavy browser that you can make behave like one on a desktop.

If you have some interest in being rooted, feel free to PM me with your phone's brand, model #, Android version, etc. Depending on what phone you have, it may be a lot simpler than you'd think.

I guess I really didn't understand the question at first as this being in relation to viewing this site on a mobile device. Sorry, I don't use those devices myself, so quite likely I will never have any personal incentive to try to make changes on the site to accommodate such devices. Heck, I'm using my laptop right now with a moderately sized screen and square chicklet keys on the keyboard and that's painful enough for me. I would go blind trying to view this stuff on a cell phone sized device.

Besides, unless I am sitting at home or in a motel room, etc., I have no intention of trying to access the web anyway. I certainly don't want to get inundated with emails from people saying "I lost my password! Help!" while I am at dinner somewhere or driving down the road.....
