In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

What the heck happened here?

Got a weird situation here. This was my last clutch to hatch this season. Dad was a black pastel bought as an adult from someone here on fauna. Mom was a late '09 lesser I got at 300 grams from a reptile show.

Mom has never been with another male. She laid 4 eggs with one molding after a few weeks. So 3 good eggs. Had my fingers crossed for a black pastel lesser, but found this poking out of the egg.

That's right, a BEL.

So we all know black pastel x lesser does not = a BEL. Other 2 eggs were normals. All three are female. Any ideas how this happened?

WOW! Thats an interesting situation lol, too bad all the others were normals so no help there. I honestly wouldnt have the slightest clue. Did you MAYBE stick her in the tub with a mojo or lesser while you were cleaning?

So many crazy things yet to be discovered even from a normal x normal with crazy hidden genes if the stars align I wonder what could somehow pop out over time. Or at least that's what I like to hope.

Maybe you got yourself a black pastel bel, and skipped some steps in that breeding process.

I was thinking something similar, April, but it doesn't line up. Even it if was parthenogenesis, there's no way a heterozygous animal could produce a homozygous animal.

Very odd.

motley boa female parthogenesis can and has produced the super motley.
The babies get 2 copies from the mom, one could be normal, one could be lesser so you could get normals, lessers or bels. (at least, as I understand it and looking at the motley boa example). edit to add - also read about null partho or something like that, basically the baby really only gets one gene from mom and the other is 'null' or blank so if it gets lesser it becomes bel. I am not very familiar with that last theory but thought I should add it in...

Also, maybe I missed it eariler, but was this female with a male last year? Could it be retained sperm possibly?

One easy way to dispel that theory is to check the gender of the babies...if there's a male, it wasn't parthenogenesis. If they're all females, then the discussion continues, lol.

i think that blackpastel was a het russo and gave u a bel, but my question is that bel has some pattern in back of head and not a expert of what a blackpastel would do to a white snake, need to see after shed to see if u got a blackpastel bel,, need some other breeders questions on this story for sure, and pretty wild no lessers or blackpastel in other eggs, which can happen but nuts, i would hold back all them for future breeding to see what happens,,,good luck...congrats

As I said the female has only been with the black pastel. The male being a black pastel russo crossed my mind also. I plan to repeat the pairing again.
