In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This doesn't warrant a bad guy thread. I just want to share my experience so that others might make an informed decision before doing business with this guy.

TL/DR version: Mark Ryland of The Reptile Jungle is unprofessional and unapologetic about inconveniencing his customers.

27 August - I called Mark to place an order for a custom PVC enclosure. He told me that he was going to be out of town for a show or something and that it would take about two weeks to build. I agreed to this and paid for half of the enclosure up front.

8 September - Mark called me to verify whether I wanted a sliding or swinging door.

14 September - It had been a little over two weeks, so I called Mark to see if I could come pick up the enclosure that weekend. Mark told me that his rat supplier had doubled his prices, so he had to spend that weekend building rat racks. He said that he'd definitely have my enclosure done the following weekend.

22 September - I called Mark to verify that my order was complete before heading down there to pick it up. Nope. Now the glass is being cut and it should be ready by Wednesday.

26 September - I called Mark Wednesday afternoon to inquire about picking this thing up after I got off of work. Nope! Now it's about to be painted, but it should be dry by the next day. I didn't have time to pick it up Thursday or Friday, so I let him know that I'd be down on Saturday.

29 September (Today) - We arrived at his shop to pick up the enclosure. It looked nice enough, but then the door handle/lock came right off in my hand because it had apparently just been glued on. His kid (who was manning the shop) made the comment that they "were afraid that was going to happen". He made no attempt to explain what was going to be done about it and just snottily said that if we "didn't like it they would just sell it to someone else".

He offered to call his dad (Mark) and put me on the phone with him. I proceeded to tell Mark what happened and how annoyed I was that this thing still wasn't ready, and I had driven nearly an hour to get there and didn't feel like coming back. Mark just said that he would come down there, cut me a check, and sell it to someone else. I guess I know where his son got his customer service skills.

It took him 10 minutes to get there and another 15+ minutes for him to figure out how to issue the refund while I just stood there. Not once was any hint of an explanation or apology offered.

I can understand being told that this would take 4-6 weeks from the beginning. I can understand delays and setbacks. But I don't understand how you can repeatedly fail to inform the customer, who literally has car keys in hand, that it isn't going to be ready? And after three delays the product has still not been finished after I am told to come pick it up??

I can tell that Mark doesn't seem to think that he's lost any business due to my mistreatment because he still has his product to sell. But FYI Mark, I had two friends that were waiting to see how ours came out before they came to you to have their own built. I had also heard that you built acrylic displays and I was planning on trying you out for those as well.

Maybe it's for the best. Maybe you could use the free time to take care of those sick snakes in your shop.

This is a pretty common theme in this hobby. First; everybody thinks they're a pro breeder right off the bat.... Websites, advertisements, logo, bus. name, etc etc... Their first litter isn't even on the ground yet.. Then; shortly after that first litter maybe... BOOM! Now, I'm a enclosure/rack maker too.

My goodness, you can see and smell em from states away. The ONLY thing YOU/WE/ME can do for protection.. OVERPAY, and get from a reputable name in the business that's been there for a few years. Why? Some might ask... Because they have longevity.. The aren't in it for the money. They do it for te REPTILES!

Thanks for spotlighting another Ronald McDonald! It's funny.. I often wonder if they look like Deer or Roo's in headlights/spotlights while reading these threads. Frozen in disbelief, because in their heads, it's all, and only, about them. Never the customer, as evidenced in the common theme; we will just sell it to some other person.

By the way, I'm sorry you had to experience this... I just recently had to go through a similar episode.

Well I am glad this was posted. I have been looking at purchesing a rack or to for ball pythons from him. When I buy something I want to know when it will be done becasue i have money tied up in it till i get a finnished product. I feel you about the waiting and everything. It is amaizing though how much he has jumped into EVERYTHING he can get his hands on since he opened that shop, which i believe was less than 2 years ago.

Having purchased two custom made ball python racks (One nine rack and a twenty rack) from Mark that work perfectly and were made at a moments notice I would have to say I was treated more than fairly and with complete respect. I plan on buying more racks when needed from Mark as well. Just trying to bring a little balance to the conversation

^Sounds good Mark!^I meant Ashley... Sorry..^

little balance
I'm glad you feel you were treated fairly and wanted to balance out this thread. But the true measure of a vendor is how they act when something goes wrong, and the OP's cage went very, very wrong, everything from customer service to technical expertise was not what it should be.

It would be a cold day in you know where before I ordered from this cage maker. Come on now, the handle comes off when you try to use it?

My sympathies to the 'someone else' who gets stuck with this cage.

I'm definitly not mark but ok
You sure about that? :shrug01:

He just sent me this text. I guess I'm a tough guy for wanting to prevent others from experiencing what I did. Huh. Truth hurts I guess.

I ADORE THESE TYPES! There's always somebody bigger, badder, and carrying (more) heat than thou... FEI. (For Everybody's Information.)

(lol, I'm on a roll today.)(Stand back, I'm going down in a flaming hail of 'em.) :uzi:

I do want to apologize to you Ashley.. Some info came forth that supports you being Ashley. I wholeheartedly apologize... Whether accepted, or not. I am! :(

More people should know!

Adam was very professional in his first posting and since this guy sent that text I want to share the stuff that was left out of my husband's post.

First of all when we went in there the place was disgusting. Many of the animals in there were visually sick in some way. There was a pinstripe BP that was blowing bubbles, another cinnamon BP that was open mouth breathing, a few larger snakes with pee/poop in their cages with stuck sheds etc.

When we were waiting for the owner to come down there to refund our money we waited outside because standing in there made you feel like stuff was crawling on you. I mentioned to the son of the owner that his snakes had RI's and he said they were being treated.

Who has sick animals out for sale? If an animal has an RI, it needs to be quarantined to prevent it from spreading, common sense.

The animals in the display case at the register were in soaking wet deli cups (covered in condensation) with very little ventilation. Obviously they do not know how to take care of the few animals they had.

When we got home, we took off our shoes outside and bleached them fearful of what we could possibly bring into our own home from that dirty place.

I met this guy at the Repticon in Denver, CO and saw a sample of his cages there. They looked nice, but honestly with seeing the conditions of their shop, I don't think I could have disinfected the cage well enough to trust putting our Green Tree in it even if it had not been all screwed up.

So even if someone has received a nice cage from him before, you are possibly infecting your animals by bringing those cages it into your house.

If you think what I am saying is exaggerated, make the drive and see the dirty conditions, sick animals etc for yourself.
