New Rack Purchase Question

Steve has used ARS tubs in an AP rack (sorry to speak for you, Steve; but it looks like you're offline).

Seems like the cup holders would be less desirable to people using paper...sure, there's the convenience of disposable water bowls; but having to custom cut the paper would cancel it out.

That's true, hadn't thought of that. And since I like to use paper for breeding ... Darn, just got excited that there'd be no more spilled water. :crap:

No problem.

I have the AP CB70 rack with the ARS grey tubs with the built in cup holders.

I love being able to just change out the deli cup and no one can spill the bowls anymore.

Was wondering what tubs are preferred..there was a big discussion here on what tubs fit which racks etc..but what are the benefits of say iris, vs freedom tubs. Aside from the thickness in the tub. What is the benefit of having a solid color tub, if any? Is this beneficial to the snake? Or would a clear tub be better? I would think that no light getting in with the tub being solid isn't a good thing.

Thanks!

Can't quite answer this one yet. My racks arrive today (maybe), and I ordered a few different tubs to see which I'd like best. I went with the clear because the depth of the rack should give them plenty of security. I think it's just a matter of personal preference.

Yes but wouldn't you say with a colored tub, one which light cannot get into would be bad for your snake? Darkness 24/7 can't be good..

Ball pythons like it dark. I've heard of folks with problem feeders who have great success using a dark, opaque tub. Balls aren't one of those species who need sunlight. Can't say whether or not it would be detrimental to health long-term, but I don't use them so don't have any experience to comment.

Along with eating better in the dark tubs i I think my snakes thermo regulate them selfs better... in the clear tubs they are almost always in the back on the heat... my snakes in the dark tubs are more often in the front of the tub not on the heat... so i think they are choosing security over the temperature that they are comfortable at ... the eating better als

Very interesting Jason. It is true bps are nocturnal and they are generally sleeping during the day, out during the night barely getting any sunlight even with clear tubs. I guess dark tubs wouldn't be any different really.

Hi Shadera,

I was wondering if you had any feedback about which tubs you ended up going with?

Debating on which rack to get, I like the economy open one (since I heat the entire room) but the comments about clear/open rack vs. closed side/dark tubs is something to ponder..

thanks

I purchased the ARS 70-series semi clear with cupholders. LOVE them. I'd always used Sterilite or Iris previous to this, and they seem so flimsy compared to these tubs. Heavy duty and should last the lifetime of the rack for sure. They aren't as clear as the storage totes, but aren't really opaque either. If I were doing an economy CB70 rack, I'd go for the gray 70 series tubs in a heartbeat. :yesnod:

If I can take any pictures for you that'll help with your choice, let me know.

ok great, thank you for the feedback! Did you try the vision V70 tubs as well?
(I'll be going for regular tubs, no cup holders)
