In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Everglades Pythons this bad?

Killing cats where I live is illegal. Also something I would never do.

I've tried to have discussions with you and you either pull this crap or you talk nonsense like "the canned laughter of your speech leaves much to be desired" or some similar oddball :censored:

So now I will just ignore you. You are different pal, I gotta say that....

I love kitties but they demonize large constrictors but here's a real problem

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2013/01/29/science-cats-kill-billions-birds-mammals.html

It's nice to see a critical look being taken at the damage the ultimate invasive species is doing to native wildlife population reptile/otherwise. This may lead to pressure legislatively to hold cat owners accountable for their role in this. I am unaware of any other species in the pet trade that is allowed to free range the neighborhood and kill native wildlife with no real consistent laws to prevent this. Even dogs are regulated by most communites and are required to be maintained in pens, run or fences except in the most rural of areas....this is a long time in coming i hope it begins a change we've been needing for a long time. I fail to understand the practive of capturing then spaying/neutering feral cats only to release them to continue to wreak havoc on the environment. I have absolutely no problem with humanely euthanizing these invasive menaces to native reptile and bird populations. Releasing them back into the wild to continue this onslaught for the remainder of their lives seems rather rediculous to me.

They tried that here,it made no difference what they put on the books the problem still existed.
The pro-active approach produced favorable results where as the lame ordinances
have been left for dead on the city's books.

i'm not sure i am following your post please elaborate. What is the pro-active approach? seems to me my first thought is pass an ordinance that cats are to be kept indoors or if outdoors in secured pens and any cat not maintained this way and caught is taken to the local shelter the same way a dog would be. Would not be much public support for this i'm sure but we need to start somewhere.

Yes Steve, I find it amazing how all these politicians can scream dangerous invasive species in a tiny section of the US but cats running all over elicit no concern. In the city I work in, Cats that are captured are allowed to be adopted out if they are tame/healthy. Older cats that are feral or ill are humanely put down. How ever the warden does not trap cats but will go after dogs. It is up to residents to trap cats.

Speaking of pythons in the Everglades, I just read today in the local "news"paper that after having 1,000 people register to hunt the pythons, and looking for them since January 12, they have found only 37 of them, to date.

So of course they are claiming the reason behind this is simply because these snakes are so difficult to find. What happened to the claims that these gigantic dangerous animals were so overrunning the Everglades that they were going to spread all throughout the continental USA and eat women and children when the animals they eat gets depleted as a food source? But, oh no, thousands of 20 ft. pythons are so incredibly difficult to find!

Yeah I seen that Rich. I bet they have a few people down there saying, Damn it, Find more!

I agree the populations were overly exaggerated, of course 37 dead pythons is 37 less invasive animals. It is my opinion pythons may be surviving in florida but i think to say they are thriving is a stretch to say the least. I might add even in the glades january might not have been my target month to conduct this hunt which may explain some of the low numbers, i don't even know what the weather has been like however there. Florida F&W can be happy with the 1,000 or so licensing fees they collected all in all this has turned out pretty well for all the interested parties except the hunters themselves. Any word on the gut contents of these 37 pythons haven't seen much about that...any chance a feral cat or two was in there?

When I lived there the state was over run by hogs. This was late 60's to late 70's around Orlando. When walking to school some times they would come running out of the bush and scare the hell out of you. Last time I visited Orlando though it was mostly asphalt, buildings and 7/11's though, lol.

If they want to make themselves really useful and go after invasive species, how about they take a shot at fire ants and love bugs.

Of course, then there is the issue of every non-native human being who is not a native Seminole.

Sorry, I always get a gallows humor sort of chuckle about the most invasive species on this planet complaining about another invasive species.....

Those dang lovebugs. One in the eye while bike riding will take you out. One in the mouth was just nasty!. And going knee deep in a fire ant mound will have you moving like Michael Jackson on crank!

I think the pressure and stress of living in extreme paranoia, fear, and anti-authoritarianism takes it toll after awhile... it makes a good case for not living that way.

all because I refused the kool-aid,your judgmental is well passed its service interval

Who then is the fool that plays another mans game ?
