In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy Stephen Braithwaite -North Jersey Craigslist Users Beware

As sad as this situation is, once you sell an animal, the animal no longer belongs to you and, unless there is some sort of contract, you have no say on what the buyer can, or cannot do, with the animal.
The police will not become involved because #1 It would be a civil matter (~If~ you were owed money, etc.) unless "person" committed a theft (robbery, burglary, etc.). #2 (most importantly) You, willingly, sold the animal to "person" (so, it is no longer yours and all rights are lost).
As for animal cruelty, you would need to contact the local humane, or animal control, agency. If you contact law enforcement, they would just pass it off, to that agency, anyway. Well, unless none are available. In which case, law enforcement will go to investigate. However, unless it is a dire situation, they may not do so very quickly (meanwhile, they would still try to contact a humane/animal control officer, if there is one, to handle the matter).
All that said, I am sorry to hear what has happened. Also feel so bad for the Boa. Hope someone, that will take great care of her, got the Boa out of this guy's hands.

hearing she was being housed in a cardboard box with no heat

This to me is a pivotal point. The buying and selling prices are one thing, but how the critter was kept is very important. Can you get Greg to come on here and maybe post the texts that say the snake was housed that way?

This should teach everyone a lesson about Craigslist. There are too many scammers and people looking to make a fast buck. If you really care more about where your animals are going rather than getting some money, advertise them on fauna or in the local herp society newsletter. There is a much better chance your animal will go to someone who really wants it. Are there scammers here too? Sure! But the chances are much better. I recently adopted out a red-tailed boa to a local guy I found on Fauna who was very happy to get her and did not turn around and sell her. Not blaming the OP, just using this opportunity to point out some things about Craigslist.

I really don't see the issue here. The OP agreed to a deal (granted, not a good one) for whatever reason. Payment was made and ownership transferred. It's now the "bad guy's" choice to do what he wants with the animal. Keep it, breed it, trade it for something else (ok, not to turn it lose in the bushes). As far as CraigsList and flipping, this is a website (which I use- some deals have been good, some not so good and some have been downright stinkers) which welcomes fraudulent transactions through its own policies of allowing "small rehoming fees," and not enforcing them.
As far as flipping, I really don't see the problem in making a quick profit.
Maybe I am missing something here?

My take:
The first ad: Well, the guy's a jerk, but at this point it's his snake to resell.
The second ad: using another breeder's photo of one animal when advertising a different animal, is copyright infringement and fraudulent.
The third ad: stating the animal is a sunglow when it's not, is fraudulent.

Fair points on two and three.
If ever Caveat Emptor was appropriate, it is CraigsList. so is the phrase Caveat Venditor.

I think the seller can also take exception to the crap the buyer slung about how much they wanted the snake for their personal collection, and the insulting lowballing, only to have them turn around and resell it for 3x the price. Just because it's not illegal doesn't mean it's not unethical.

I know this person and the add comes up in a google search it is harming him.
So, you just happened to do a random Google search on an acquaintance and, finding this thread over 3 years after the fact, you decided to burn off your very first post on this site by bumping it up in his defense - providing nothing more than your say-so? Since you seem to believe that you're in the know, I'm curious about just what parts of this thread are "completely false"?

Considering that Stephen Braithwaite has been shown to be a dishonest person who has no issues with grossly misrepresenting a situation for his benefit, it wouldn't surprise me if he'd created an account here with a false name back in 2013 - thus, making your own account seem more than a little suspect in my eyes, especially considering your shared location, Long Valley, NJ. Maybe he (you?) didn't previously realize just how a Bad Guy thread can follow someone around, and just now wants to try to chime in and sew some doubt without any corroborating evidence? Since you're close enough to the guy to care about his reputation - apparently more than he did, himself - surely, you could have him come here and give proof to dispute whatever you feel is false.

Considering that Stephen Braithwaite is a thief and a fraud I hope this thread cost him more than he made flipping that poor snake after how poorly he treated it.

Ok, you guys are a bunch of online bullies that is what best describes you. For you to be throwing around words like thief and fraud are just forms or harassment without knowing the facts. I am Mallory, I was present when the snake was purchased it was a gift for me. I had the snake for a few days and she kept biting me and biting me and biting me so I decided the snake was not a good fit for me, I was embarrassingly scared of it. At that point I decided to trade her or whatever on craigslist, what is the problem with that people? I purchased the snake fair and square and loved her it just did not work out, things happen I am sure you guys all know that. I do not snake flip this was a onetime occurrence that caused us to never even purchase another snake on the internet again because it was quite traumatizing. Steve and I both love snakes and all reptiles and would never “put one in a box, or let one go in the woods.” It seriously saddens me how many people jump to attack a person when they only hear one side of the story. I hope this can clarify this situation, I have informed the staff at fauna that I would like this entire thread removed because it is ridiculous. I was nothing but nice to the original seller as you all can see in the messages I am not sure why we were treated so awfully. I hope in the future the online bullying can subside. We all have one thing in common we love reptiles, let’s leave it at that!

it was a gift for me

I purchased the snake

I was nothing but nice to the original seller as you all can see in the messages

Inconsistent story. Concerning.

I had the snake for a few days and she kept biting me and biting me and biting me so I decided the snake was not a good fit for me, I was embarrassingly scared of it.

You supposedly operate a "rescue" of sorts?

I have informed the staff at fauna that I would like this entire thread removed because it is ridiculous.

I would not hold out any hopes regarding this.

That was my sister who rescued and handled the snakes. It is none of your business but she is no longer around. You are a bully and that is a fact. Everything is consistent. My man got me a snake I CHANGED MY MIND. END OF STORY

Says sisters. There is more, but this is enough for now.

Melting down is not the best for making positive impressions.
