In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This may be a stupid question, and I did search through the forums for an answer but saw none available.

Why couldn't one simply buy those plastic storage drawers made by sterilite as a rack system and just modify it with some heat cable on the sides?

Something like this sure seems a lot cheaper than other plastic rack systems for hundreds of dollars.

I know someone that tried that. It worked great when they were hatchlings but if you look the dimensions are only about 12"x14" and that is way too small for most animals.

I see your point and I should have clarified. My intended use is to house hatchling leopard geckos. The units need not be huge. I just haven't seen anyone doing this and I can't rightly see why not.

Just wanted to know if there was something other people knew that I did not.

Thank you for the reply, though :)

Look closely at them...unless they've been changed, they aren't very secure. They'd probably be okay for baby leopard geckos, though.
(I could be thinking of a different version, I couldn't access the link from here.)

I've looked at them before for leopard geckos and decided not to use them. They are NOT secure... there is a big gap at the top of the tub. It's not worth the risk of having babies crawl out. If there's a crack, a leopard gecko will find it.

I used them as breeder tubs for my adult blaptica dubia once upon a time before I got married and my wife freaks out about roaches...

I would occasionally find an escapee but I believe they were always male as the males have wings and can buzz around a bit.

I wouldnt use them because they are not secure. I have thought about it becasue i was being lazy but we built our own rack out of wood. I have heard of people using the plastic storage shelves from lowes and making a rack using it and sterilite tubs.

This is what I meant. Sorry I was in a hurry to type that last post lol. I couldn't find the plastic storage shelves at lowes is what I was trying to say

Have you tried home depot and walmart?

I think I did look at Home Depot but I'm not sure, it's been awhile. And all Walmart has are those pre made ones that this post is originally about. With snakes, they would get out or get stuck trying to get out too easily

Man our lowes and home depot have them. Google and see if you can find any. Have you tried looking on lowes or home depot site and ordering there. They usually offer free shipping to the store.

Hmm I haven't thought of that, yea I'll take a look. I'm really needing a new rack soon. Babies are getting bigger and I don't have any place to put them

I know how that is. Our rats are expanding too quick and have to make a maternity rack and more grow out racks. Have you thought of making it out of wood? I mean a 28 qt tub rack for wood probably cost about $60 for the 3/4 inch plywood then $2.50 each for 4 2x4s. Also put pegboard on one side for stability and security for the snakes and one $17 piece of pegboard did 3-4 racks. A little more expensive then the plastic but i bet lasts longer. Just an idea.

True, I made a 28q rack from 1/4 inch birch and 1x4s. It works really well but I can't make anything bigger since the wood will sag. I was going for inexpensive and light. It worked great. But I was thinking of a way to make something that was longer length wise but anything but particle board or plywood would sag. And lightweight goes out the window. So I figured plastic might be something I could try.

I have two 7 shelf ones from lowes as you stated and holding 41 qt sterilite tubs. The long and low ones. They work great and don't cost much to set up. You just have to cut the legs to make the shelves the right height to keep boas from pushing up and out. I also cut the lid on sterilite and attached 2 brass hinges. This way you don't have to pull the whole tub out and off the rack.

Could you post a pic of your setup?
