In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Courtney & George Schertler - Retic Owners Watch Puppy Being Eaten and Posts Pics

Courtney has been made aware of this thread. She expressed unhappiness with her husband taking the pictures and posting them online, which seems to correlate with what was said earlier. Stated that her father-in-law was supposed to be watching the puppy.

Thanks for informing her, but she supposedly told me off with little care for the situation and since her and George use the same account (see attachment), it's impossible to know who is posting.

In addition to that, she told you the father-in-law was supposed to be watching the puppy? Earlier they said that he was supposed to be watching the retic.

Then it was stated the father-in-law was on the porch and watched the retic attack the puppy that supposedly slipped the backyard and got to a porch that one would have to assume is not in the backyard? Inconsistency? I'd say so.

Not defending her, just trying to report with a neutral demeanor. ;)

Father-in-law may have been left in charge of watching the snake; husband/boyfriend may have taken the pics and posted them on their FB account ... doesn't matter.

What does matter is that there are two irresponsible snake owners with pets and children. Those snakes, those puppies and all those other animals they seem to collect are the sole responsibility of Courtney and George.

If their pup dies of parvo, it's their responsibility. If their other pup (the chocolate Doxie they had) gets run over in the road, it's their responsibility. Don't let your pups run free and then blame it on an irresponsible driver ... duh.

If their pet squirrel or rabbit or foe die in their care, it's their responsiblity. If that wildlife was intended to be snake food, then fess up.

If their pup gets devoured, it's their responsibility. The mere fact that he or she took photos and then posted them on her FB account is still just plain moronic. I would be willing to bet that Courtney, not George, manages & posts on the FB account that is under her name. Nothing like passing the buck when you get called out/exposed.

The photo of that tiny Chihuahua (that later died) posed on their snake and peering so focused & nervously toward the head of the snake (as well as the other photos) should be enough for readers to see that BOTH Courtney and George are not responsible pet or exotic animals owners, no matter who posted the photos, no matter who passes the buck.

Personally I feel that post #38 needs to be deleted or edited as well as a few others. The posted photo appears to show a young child, probably even younger than 13. Despite what the parents may have done, NO one has the right to post pictures of their kids and involving them. As far as the other pictures go, they are copyrighted pictures by law. You should not be posting them with out their consent. Not any different than stealing pictures that someone else owns and using them as yours in an advertisement.

I think it is quite a bit different. Using the pictures as proof of their behavior is not nearly the same as using them for profit. I don't believe copyright is being violated unless the person claims that the photographs belong to him/her when they do not, or they are using the photographs for profit/personal gain.

These were public photographs that anyone could look at, simply posted here in the very likely case that these two would take them down when they were criticized. Much like the pictures of the puppy being eaten were taken down.

Yep. It's editorial use, not commercial for one. They were published publicly on Facebook which has many privacy options that were not used. Shame on them.

The above quotes are accurate in that these photos were posted on Facebook without any privacy settings whatsoever and, therefore, public domain.

The reason these photos are up here are to illustrate who these people are and the dangers they pose to themselves and others around them. I am sorry if this offends you, but they were posting these pics and others all over Facebook long before I or anyone else noticed them.

The photos have not been used in any manner that could suggest financial interest so copyright infringement has not occurred. Even still, it has been acknowledged who the photo belongs to so credit has been given.

That aside, anything not marked as private on Facebook is basically fair game and even if someone has their profile on lock down, the information is fair game for their friends or associates that have access to the information.

Very few parts of the internet have "protected" domains where photos or information cannot be taken from it for any reason.

Regardless if I agree or not, I might be in awful place to complain or tell others what to do.

Many years ago on this forum I posted some family pictures that included a child from someones photobucket account. The person was stealing thousands of dollars from a member of this site. At the time I thought it was justified. I was trying to exert some pressure. I don't want to be hypocritical but I absolutely don't see why the girl holding the puppy needed to be put here.

I also looked in the facebook photos when this thread started as I'm sure many have. That picture was surrounded by other pictures of the puppy alone. I see no reason why that one had to be chosen to be put here. :shrug01:

Like I stated, I'm not in a real good position to put up objections but I did have a little knot turn in my stomach for that little girl to have her face on here.

I agree.

I think that they should be left alone. I mean its common sense a snake will try to eat anything it can swallow and a snake that big it will be impossible to get off the dog so their was nothing they could have done to save that dog

Funny that you just started your account with the BOI in June 2013. Congratulations on your first post.

The couple in question are disgusting and irresponsible with their pets, snakes, and facebook postings. The level of ignorance this couple has displayed is beyond me.

Common sense would have never had an avenue for that pup to reach the snake. Common sense would never have a captive kept reptile fed wild game. Common sense would not have you reaching for a camera wile your dog is being killed and eaten. I dint think they've met this common sense person you speak of.

There was allegedly someone that was supposed to be watching either the dog or the retic, whether that was actually true or simply lip service to evade responsibility I don't know, but either way the dog paid with its life.
Hopefully, this thread and the associated discussion will keep future pet critters and the children in that environment safe.

I post pics of rats getting eaten.

We watch on National Geographic as animals eat other animals.

In Asian countries they eat cats and dogs and monkeys all the time.

Warning: Perhaps I missed the point of all this, and I apologize if so, but someone really needs to explain to me what this thread has to do with any sort of business transaction or business aspect of the topic matter. The BOI is not just a catch-all section for any and all types of threads that people may want to post here. If you will note, The Board of Inquiry forum is located in the BUSINESS category of this site, which certainly implies the focus of which sorts of topics should be posted here.

Unless I am presented with a convincing argument why this should remain in the BOI, this thread will be moved to a more appropriate forum.

I agree boss, move this thing. While I agree it is not the most pleasant subject, I just don't see why it is on the BOI at all. I guess it is true. Puppies and kittens will always be valued over ALL other animals. how unfortunatel

Wow, the point seems to be really flying over some heads here. This isn't about the theoretical value of a puppy's life over a feeder animal. This is about horrendously irresponsible people keeping a large constrictor in an extremely unsafe manner and showing it off to the world. Is that really the message you want to be spread around? Do you want more justification to get these snakes banned for everyone else?

I truly cannot believe that so many of you think this is a-ok. It's blowing my mind. I dunno, maybe this isn't the right hobby for me after all. Responsible pet ownership and not letting your puppy get eaten by your snake is just so passé I guess.

I just don't see why it is on the BOI at all.

Ritchie, to me, one of the points of having this thread here is to alert the business world so that they can make an informed choice as to where they want to sell critters to these people.
The incident also involves transactions in a more global way. There may be a lot of people out of money if the kinds of critters they breed are banned because of such behaviors.

I don't think that was the point. The point was that this pup was a pet, and adequate supervision was not provided; and further when the pet's life was ending, inappropriately in my opinion, the choice was made to take pictures and display them.
Let's not forget that there is a child who appears to visit sometimes. Adequate supervision is pretty important.
