In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info Courtney & George Schertler - Retic Owners Watch Puppy Being Eaten and Posts Pics

To be fair, once that retic struck the poor pup's fate was pretty well sealed. I don't know if any intervention, short of killing the snake, would have helped.

Allowing the scenario to happen by leaving the snake unsecured on the porch, followed by taking pictures, of the incident and posting them on FB was the absolute height of stupidity though.

They could of atleast tried, a rag soaked with amonia or rubbing alcohol works pretty good when trying to get a snake to release. But I do get what your saying it is unlikely the pup would of survived. But if it was me, ANYTIME I had a large constrictor out I would have a bottle of rubbing alcohol close by just in case.

Rich, regardless of what kind of critter was eaten (and I have to admit having a soft spot for puppies but I understand what you are saying) to take a picture of it being eaten and post it is to me, inappropriate. There are all sorts of gulp videos online and I don't care for any of them.
I'm not going to get into the live/ft debate here, but if you feed live, it isn't necessary to post the process for entertainment. Add to that the 'R.I.P.' comment, and the fact that when there was a fuss the pictures got taken down, perhaps others agree that feeding live should perhaps not be a public spectacle.

Well yes, im not down playing the issue at hand of what this person did. Its just there should never be a discussion on what is Right and Wrong on feeding what to what. It seems whenever these topics come along in media ppl freak out about it due to mainstream media brainwashing over generations on what is acceptable and whats not.

I have dogs, cat, Rats and Mice, Its just a point of view on it all, and the way the person went about it was wrong. If a snake i owned got a hold of my dog or cat, I would help to save both animals best i can, but last thing on my mind is to take pictures and talk about it to strangers on the web.

Rich, :iagree:

with regards to trying to get the snake to let go of the dog; had liquor works well and they probably had plenty of that around.
the dog may have been so severely injured by the constricting action that it may have had to be put down even if the snake released it.
these snakes can break every bone in an animals body with their 90psi constricting power.

posting it on facebook shows that these people just don't care

I'm just going to put this out there. After viewing their facebook last night (I imagine it has been made private by now), it loos like they have had no less than 20 dogs/cats in their possession since 2011. It kind of makes me wonder why they go through so many.

I was thinking the same thing.

Don't forget the pics of the fawn and the squirrel. I have to wonder if the squirrel beig fed to the boa is the one tamed by their "animal whisperer" relative.

Foreknowledge of the potential for this existed. Access and proximity were enabled. Attempts to intervene were in no way taken. Excuses a-plenty are offered after the fact. At the least, these owners were simply indifferent and ignored all of the points of failure in a keeping operation. At worst, they may have been a touch too curious while expressing a disturbingly low amount of empathy. I am not saying they wholly desired the end result, but more than a modicum of engineering contributed to it regardless.

Absolutely correct. Here's a perfect example of their "engineering" they felt worthy of a photo and posting. This tiny little pup in the pic also died likely due to Parvo, according to her FB post.

Warning: Perhaps I missed the point of all this, and I apologize if so, but someone really needs to explain to me what this thread has to do with any sort of business transaction or business aspect of the topic matter. The BOI is not just a catch-all section for any and all types of threads that people may want to post here. If you will note, The Board of Inquiry forum is located in the BUSINESS category of this site, which certainly implies the focus of which sorts of topics should be posted here.

Unless I am presented with a convincing argument why this should remain in the BOI, this thread will be moved to a more appropriate forum.

Rich, I am glad it is in the BOI.

The evidence provided has shown me that they cannot be trusted with any animal. I would NEVER want to sell to or buy from them. I don't care if they ship perfectly healthy babies out and have amazing customer service, nobody should be giving their money to known animal abusers.

While this was not a business transaction, it is invaluable insight as to how they 'care' for the animals they own, and undoubtedly how they care for the ones they buy and sell. Feeding wild animals to snakes is a health hazard.

Threads have been made before about 'rescues' and about animal hoarders. I strongly feel that this information is relevant to anybody who might consider doing business with them in the future.

Monstrous is the best word I can think of to describe their actions. They should not be a part of our community or our hobby.

In the sense that it could be used to gauge the character of a prospective buyer/seller, I think the thread has some validity. I can imagine that some people wouldn't like the idea of supporting keepers who, at best, put animals in extremely precarious positions where one pet may eat another. Such negligent practices would likely be of interest to anyone considering a business transaction with this thread's subjects. Even assuming that the puppy's death was accidental, which, considering their apparent advocacy of alternative feeders (the squirrel), may be open to debate.

I'm currently a small time Boa breeder/business owner and will be remaining so for at least the next five years. As such I want to know the animals I produce go to good homes and responsible keepers. Being small time affords me that luxury for the time being. Being able to come here and see the name of such incredibly irresponsible keepers is extremely valuable. It falls under potential business to me, or a caution to not do business with. It's my opinion that it should stay.

The fact that these people are so negligent and are proverbial ticking time bombs is exactly why people should be aware of them because no one should be selling to them unless they would like to help contribute to the demise of the industry that could result in the financial ruination of thousands.

This thread is to warn sellers not to do business with these people.

Fair enough. For now, anyway. But the conversation from this point forward MUST be limited to relevant discussions ABOUT the persons identified in the topic line. Generally broad statements and side discussions focusing on general animal cruelty in relation to pets, etc., is not fare for the BOI and needs to be discussed elsewhere.

Courtney has been made aware of this thread. She expressed unhappiness with her husband taking the pictures and posting them online, which seems to correlate with what was said earlier. Stated that her father-in-law was supposed to be watching the puppy.
