• In the past two days I have gotten emails asking about being requested to provide credit card info in order to register and also to make a post in the classifieds forums. PLEASE NOTE: In no instance will this site ask you for this sort of information. The only time any request for payment is made is if you choose to opt-in for a higher membership level, and that is done SOLELY through PayPal. Anything else is coming from a source other than this site. My guess is that this is coming through Google Adsense, but when I can get someone to send me a screen shot of this sort of request, I will know more.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I would highly recommend you look into what is actually required to ship CITEs registered animals. It's not case of dropping them off at the UPS store. Paperwork can be time consuming and costs. You then have vet inspections, shipping agents. You will need a clearing agent on your end. It will ship into an airport, not a door drop off.
I would walk away very fast from this one, and really do your research when it comes to international shipping and animal aquisiation.

Yeah, thanks Warren. I started looking into it after I saw a few posts on in this thread... Looks like I'll have to just keep my eyes open for someone offering cataphractus in the southeast region of USA and pick them up myself if I do eventually find someone selling them.

Based on what I see online and after calling a few local exotic pet stores... that option seems unlikely unfortunately.

Thanks tons for everyones help! I supose if anyone hears any info on people selling these little guys in the States, drop me a line.

My friend in the UK did some asking around, and also emailed the sellers. Here are some of his comments:

"... emailed 4 other traders and no one has heard of him including the secretary of the IHS, .... I have emailed the guy to see what he comes back with as if they are available then they can be looked at, if this is not convenient for him then I need to see photographic evidence of import permits as they are all cites.

".... there is something else that looks odd about this, with the biggest reptile fair in the world looming up next weekend in Hamm in Germany there is no sign whatsoever of this guy advertising his 5 k's worth of lizards on the Terraristik website and with no one else in sight offering the giganteus I find that a little odd. Anyone who is anyone is either going to that event or knows someone who is going to it and if you are trying to sell something of that league then you would be advertising where it is gonna get seen....and he aint!!

".... the guy replied to my email but he is on the isle of wight...so he says which basically exempts him from anyone going to see before they buy. I have yet to find anyone who has dealt with him or heard of him. This does not mean that he is dodgy but this league of animal would either be dealt with via specialists in a very narrow field or by big dealers who can afford to have them sitting around until they sell. The isle of white does not have any big dealers as logistically its a non starter for shipping livestock and has a very small customer base so unless someone gets back to me I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions."

All pointing to scam to me.....

Funny that I know a keep who lives on the Isle of wight. Shall give her a bell and see if she has heard of him
 
Pretty much as expected then, and a good call on the OPs part to ask in the first place.

Lilnightmare, is there anything like the BOI in the UK forums where you can warn people about this guy?
