Randal, that's all fine and well that your deal with Scolaro from 2 years ago went well. I would have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that were you to have any future dealings with him they too would go well. Unfortunately I would not have the same confidence were someone else entering into a transaction with him. Now this may come as a shock to you but I do not think he is an idiot and that is why he would make sure you would be satisfied in any future dealings seeing as you have come to bat for him over and over and over and over and over again. Seeing a pattern here yet? When there are multitudes of other people making complaints and prior to his removal the way in which he would react and lie when confronted it's difficult to see a positive outcome for anyone other than you when dealing with him.



Sorry Randal but one of the purposes of the BOI is to inform others of dealings with others be it originating from Fauna, Kingsnake or any other site or means. To suggest not bringing things here is asinine. To suggest calling Dan is idiocy after hearing about folks who have already tried this and seeing how he has reacted here when someone makes a complaint.

As far as I have seen since this thread has been brought back up I have not seen anything I would call "pot shots" at him. Your choice of words describing those who you claim have/are is very Scolaro in nature. As is the blaming of the "regulars" and moderators for his dismissal.

Dan screwed me over a few years ago. I wasn't aware of the BOI or would have checked him out. I bought some red eye tree frogs. He shipped them during a snow storm in a box with no insulation, only wadded up newspaper. He put in one heat pack and it wasn't even warm when they were delivered. All animals were DOA. He refused to issue a refund of any type and became quite irate when asked to do so. Will never do business with him again.

Jeff, that is a terrible thing he said about Chuck. And how cowardly to say something about those who can no longer defend themselves.
I think Scolaro is an extremely nasty person, and probably had it in for Chuck because Chuck always told it like it was and wrote this in Scolaro's visitor messages:

I think many of us don't think much of Scolaro, he has a ton of Bad Guy threads and he is just plain nasty to many, especially to customers who dare to say anything when they receive sick or dead critters from him:

He didn't exactly choose a new audience of his own accord - he was banned for some time. I thought it was permanent (obviously, since I posted a comment to that effect); but I either added incorrectly, he got let back, or he fell through a crack in the system. I'm not too worried about which possibility led his account to be usable again...as long as he doesn't resume his antics.

I think you are exactly right, he hasn't changed.

But I disagree that he is being handled in an effective manner.
I think he deliberately starts with his insults and everyone dances to his tune and plays right into his plans.
I believe that what he wants are long drawn out insult fests that allow everyone to say what is on their mind, but keeps the issues about him confined to boards where many of his customers may not go.

Were I to recommend a different way to handle the situation, it would be to send links of his misdeeds to a wider pool of people.

Maybe to KS for starters, where Scolaro sells. JeffB has his own way of running his board there and he has every right to do so, but a thousand people forwarding links of Dan Scolaro's bad transactions with perhaps a brief and COURTEOUS note attached may get him to just look at the situation and that's a start.

Another idea is to post on every reptile board one is a member of with a list of links of Scolaro's Bad Guy threads here and elsewhere.
The key to effective control of Dan Scolaro in my opinion is publicity, and having as many people as possible look at the Bad Guy links.

And of course a good idea would be continue to clue people in to the importance of the BOI, so a wider pool of potential customers gets to see how others have been treated by Scolaro BEFORE they decide to make a purchase.

But Dan is good at intentionally keeping adverse publicity to a minimum by keeping people confined in one thread, insulting various members, and they almost can't help themselves by responding back to him, which will never be effective.

Agreed. Everyone dances along with his tune on whatever particular forum is playing his music. Fauna members/Dan's customers here got wise a long time ago. We don't dance and Dan knows it. That's why he hasn't been back here in ages, even though his ban expired or was lifted.

It's only a matter of time before the other forums/platforms realize he is not an asset, but rather a mouthy, self-centered individual who cannot and will not accept responsibility for his actions and failures in the industry.

Any entity that would continue to protect him is just encouraging unethical and illogical business practices, in my worthless opinion.

Scolaro used a lot of people for his own entertainment and got them dancing to his fiddle on the incident you are referring to. But you are correct, many people who did not know of him before know of him now, and the list of links was especially helpful.

And many who have come come here have, also, used the formal complaint system over and over about Dan and other notorious bad dealers and breeders and nothing ever happens. As long as they keep paying they'll stay. The only way that will ever change is if someone threatens to sue Jeff for harboring these guys. He is very wary of lawsuits.

PS JeffB has the same disdain for the BOI Dan does. He's voiced it over and over in private messages and email.

I've sent a note and a link, it will be interesting to see if and how he responds.
Back to Dan: the more people who can read about him the better, so they can make choices based on reading about actual transactions others have had rather than listen to his own PR about himself.

I have received a reply back, the note did not reach Jeff (because I did not have his direct email handy and sent it to KS) but I am satisfied with the answer and positive suggestion given.

I do think that if anyone who has been wronged by Dan pursuant to responding to an ad of his placed on KS sends a note to the email address below, it is worth mentioning that some of those who have not had satisfactory results interacting with KS have later been shown to be demanding or discourteous. I think your courteous claim and their TOS should hopefully give results.

I highly doubt all who have complained have been discourteous. The abuse reporting is fairly straightforward. I've been on KS since the beginning, believe me I know from experience. You will probably not hear from JeffB personally. Not saying don't do it. I'm saying you are being a little naive if you think no one else has done exactly what you suggested these last 8 years since Dan has surfaced and gotten zero results.

Also, Kingsnake seems to have the opposite view of this site. This site seems to be more concerned about ethics (ie screwing someone over) and leaving legalities to the users. Kingsnake seems to care less if people are screwed over as long as no laws are broken were they can be held liable.
