In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Paying to rate someone. A Dumb F*****G IDEA

I just figured out that the person who sold me a beautiful snake a month ago cant be rated by me. This is the first time I have used fauna but he has been on this site for 3 years. What really pisses me off is that credit is due for the CONTRIBUTING member of this website and yet he wont get it because im not a contributing member. The transaction was as smooth as can be and he deserves to know my opinion as do others to increase his business but that wont happen. Someone needs to rethink the whole method of leaving feedback because paying money to give someone positive words and thanks is fucked up.
Making money from our opinions. WOW!

Gavin,

Why not start a Good Guy post on him in the BOI?

Actually, this is at least the second time you've used this site. It only bears mentioning because your previous post - back in August - was on the BOI...giving feedback (for free).

BTW - I suggest you review the rules for posting on this site.

If it's that important to you, man up the money and take advantage of all the site has to offer. Like Lucille said, you can do a BOI for free as well.

Hah... Two posts to his name in the couple of months he's been here and 50 percent of them is just bitching and moaning. Just another part time backseat driver without a roadmap.......

From an actual web developer standpoint (which shouldn't be too far off with this pre-fabbed Vbulletin stuff) - no news is usually good news. Having people willing to complain means some level of engagement is occurring.

While OP's response wasn't as eloquent as it could have been, a good moderator or webmaster should be able to respond in such a way that a) does not berate or belittle the participant and b) encourages participation of others.

His point isn't completely off, since it's been mentioned by both sellers and buyers previously. It's hardly appropriate to mock contribution merely based on lack of previous contribution. That seems rather backward if your goal is to solicit feedback.

A spade is a spade, so why beat around the bush about it? Someone willing to take a slap at my face best be prepared to take one right back.

While it's a nice sentiment Danielle, the OP came out firing, being rather combative and using profanity (which is against the rules). That isn't exactly a great way to start discourse on ways they think the site could be improved... plus, since they broke a rule it's pretty easy to assume they didn't search the feedback forum for this topic, which as noted has been brought up quite a few times. Just my $0.02
:)

adressing the issue at hand?

Ya i used a bad word. we are all adults and this isnt grade school. I understand its against the rules but i was upset at how this website works and still am. there are numerous complaints about the fact that only contributing members can post feedback and yes I DID read them ^. I am a college student trying to enjoy my hobby and dont need to be spending money to leave a good review about a great seller. so thats my $0.02. money controls our everyday lives why let that interfere with the thing that separates us from those lives?

Oh and webslave not all of us can post on forums 14000 times. its called a life.

Some day when you mature, I hope you remember this thread and understand then just how silly it makes you sound now.

No one says you have to like the rules just follow them. Maybe find a forum that suits your needs.

I'm sorry - I didn't realize that the reason you broke the rules was because you were upset. You should have made me aware of that before I gave you the infraction. I would have been more sensitive to your feelings :ack2:
On a more serious note - you're in college...maybe I'm wrong, but weren't you a little before the everybody is special, here's a trophy just for showing up era. If not, my apologies - society did you wrong. In the real world, people are responsible for their actions & words; and but I'm mad  is only cute when said by a five year old.

If you read them, you saw the reasoning behind it...and that there were other options available to you. With that knowledge, you chose not to make a constructive post in one of the existing threads, or to proceed to the BOI after your purchase; but to start this thread to present your opinion.

So, why did you not simply make a BOI post, which is free, as you had in the past. Then when your anger subsided, you could have participated in a constructive discussion. (Yes, I realize that you did, ultimately, make a BOI post a few days after starting this thread.)

Ouch - you sure know how to hurt a guy...
You do realize that this is his site, right?
What may not be so obvious to people is that the post count of the admin and moderation team is increased significantly by behind the scenes activity. Every warning and infraction auto-generates a post in a subsection of the moderator forum. Discussions we have in the mod forum - questions/opinions on various matters, information on the multiple identities of scammers and people bypassing bans, policy discussion, etc - all count as posts. Sure, it still signifies that time is being spent here....but that time, and those posts, are part of providing this site for the members.

Ooooh, you used a bad word, so let's act like a toddler and throw a tantrum when we can't get our way. I don't care if you're a college student "trying to enjoy your hobby", if you want to leave a good review without paying to contribute to a site that ALLOWS you to enjoy your hobby, and buy animals off of here that people post up for FREE, (yes, the people that post ads, DON'T have to pay to put the ad up...WOW, AMAZING!), then use the BOI, (which you eventually did, so don't see why you're so upset.)

BTW, I read the BOI's more than I care about a stupid trader rating. I don't care if the person has a ton of trader ratings (good review is what you've called it, but it is a TRADER RATING), if they have horrible reviews in the BOI, then I don't want to work with them. Most people that use this site also refer to the BOI more than the trader rating. But if you're so hell bent on using the trader rating, then pay to contribute to the site...(reference my first paragraph.)

Oh and its easy to bash on my opinion when you are a "contributing member" ^^

I'm not a contributing member, and I'm choosing to bash your opinion...because your opinion is dumb. If you don't want to pay to play, then pick another game.

You do realize that "Webslave" is the owner of the site. So if you want to pull your foot out of your mouth and act like a grown up, then that might be pretty wise.

And since you're so busy with your "life" then how in the world did you find time to come on here and gripe about the way that he chooses to run his site? It must have been pretty difficult for you to find that break in your busy life to come on here and :censored:.

Damn entitled brats that think the world revolves around them. Just because you don't like something and you :censored: about it doesn't mean you're in the right. The way you acted in your original post was childish and downright rude. So next time, read the rules FIRST, then figure out a SOLUTION (you're in college, you should know the meaning of the word) to your problem, before you decide to gripe that it's not the way you want it.

I think those that use this site on a regular basis (or have used it for an extended period of time) often don't realize that this site is not easy to understand on first glance. I've moderated and administrated more than my fair share of forums and it's an easy pitfall to assume that everything just makes sense to everyone equally. The excess use of emoticons, the ads, the design layout, the sheer number of sticky threads in this area alone...simply will not make this site as intuitive to all users.

I also don't disagree that he wasn't being rude, the problem is when admins and moderators take the bait and sink to that level, it usually ends up putting off the newer people that are taking the time to read and attempting to follow the rules.

I disagree. A strong and pointed response to someone who seems to be intentionally trolling for a fight has nothing to do with those who are actually invested in having a positive site experience.
You might just as well have said that cops should not shoot violent criminals who are threatening others in the midst of a crime, because ordinary peaceful citizens might be put off by such a display.

Oh and webslave not all of us can post on forums 14000 times. its called a life.

Are you defining life and deciding what human activities are appropriate and exactly how much of each activity is or is not appropriate??
You seem to be saying that those who post here are doing something less than worthwhile and not part of 'life'. Some post here to sell their critters. Some help others, answering questions in the general forums. Some post about reptile news, and the ongoing struggle to maintain the right to own reptiles.

Whether your do or do not have time to post much, I question your credentials in deciding what is worthwhile use of time, and what is not.

.... You might just as well have said that cops should not shoot violent criminals who are threatening others in the midst of a crime, because ordinary peaceful citizens might be put off by such a display.

Well...that escalated quickly...

You just compared moderation of an internet forum to cops shooting people. If you can't see what's wrong with that mindset, then we will forever disagree in this issue.

I believe you are being deliberately obtuse if you are unable see the concepts behind my example.

I believe you are being deliberately obtuse if you are unable see the concepts behind my example.

Quite the opposite actually. I completely understood the idea you were trying to convey. Hence my problem with such a faulty generalization.

You said it yourself, this was the case of an individual trolling. So, the more appropriate, hasty comparison that should have been used was, "a bunch of heavily armed cops shooting a mentally incapacitated individual for waving a plastic spoon." That is the more apt comparison in this particular situation, which greatly changes the perceived impact.
